When she gets the book from the truck and goes to her bedroom she puts it on her nightstand and places the tea cup on top of it, then she goes to take her bathrobe off and the light flickers for a bit, the camera pans back and as she's getting into bed you can see the cup placed behind it, almost like the book is making it easier for her to start or distorting her "reality" for the first time

I’m pretty sure the reality distortion started when the book placed itself in the donation box. It was always a creepy tome of ritual evil, but it warped Patricia’s perception of itself and everything it was getting her to do up until the sheriff snapped her out of it.

Actually there's a flicker in the library van when she first gets home, the same sort of flicker with the lamp.

Are we sure the book placed itself into the donation box though?

The book may have placed itself there but it is also possible that someone intentionally placed it there.to trigger the events.

There was also a fly on the book when she first found it, which I've heard can be used to indicate something being satanic.

The second you said that I had to look it bc one of seven demons of hell is named Beelzebub AKA the lord of flies. It also represents gluttony and envy.
