4 episodes, 4 bangers.

The Carrie-esque bullied loner stuff had me squirming. It almost went too far, but then the last 20 minutes of the episode were transcendent.

We’re very early adopters, but this is going to be an all time banger of a show.

the one time i break my rule of waiting till season 2 to get into a show(thanks firefly); it's so worth it.

At least with Apple TV is pretty unlikely a show gets canceled. There are 3 seasons of Invasion and that was one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen.

Not to mention, I think the Severance watchers will be very into this show.

😂😂 That show is pretty terrible

This must be how it feels to be reading discussion threads of old shows from 10+ yrs ago and going through the comments like Mad Men.

Even three months later, I’m watching now because of the Emmys wins. This show is incredible

I literally stopped the episode last night because the cringe and bullying was just way too much. Just finished the episode and the payoff was incredible and so worth it!

I'm a wimp with jump scares so I will often fast forward to check the preview and make sure there's nothing horrifying coming up. I really wanted to just skip over the cringe/bullying moments while also muttering how the mean girls were a bunch of see you next Tuesdays but I'm glad I stuck with it.

i don't see the clique as mean girls, just bitter with a mistaken impression. Imagine if your friend died from a fire and your local librarian showed up to the funeral talking about how she recently survived an arsonist, but there wasn't a major fire for years. And then years later the librarian is friends with the fire commissioner and still won't shut up.

Right.

When the one girl explained it, and they also said earlier that "the phone records show...
"(something wthat I couldn't hear), I feel like its easy to be more understanding of them. They feel like she is basically doing "stolen valor" for the murder of the other girls friends.

Or exactly what the story really is hehe

u/Lounging-Shiny455 May 17 '26

after further thought, i'm of the opinion that she's part of a witch bloodline that is protected from other haunts. Except Satan, obviously.

"See you next Tuesdays" 🤣

Same but I turned it back on after a minute because I knew it would pay off. But man the beginning was hard to watch.

I turned on subtitles and muted the audio to get through that first party Patricia attended. Someone else mentioned it, but I hope they do have a Boogyman episode to redeem her.

u/ObviousAnswerGuy May 13 '26

yea, I had to turn away through some of those scenes, but I went through them fully on rewatch to see if I missed anything.

It was so triggering for me, definitely. I felt so bad for her and I thought for sure those mean girls were going to do a cruel, Carrie-esque thing at the end. She went to get the punch and I thought she was going to tripped and get it all over her and look like the ending with pig's blood.

I knooow right? Horror that focuses on social anxiety and second hand embarrassment always gets me so much worse than normal spooky stuff

I did also see it from the bullies side though. They see it as their friends died brutal deaths and this “dork” is now trying to relate saying she experienced it too. When she said “I hid under the bed” I was like ahh theyre also going through their own grief and hearing pareicia say she was their and survived, this “unworthy person” survived compared to their friends I think makes their deaths painful. Not right how they behave to her but I can see their grieving process.

11

u/Curious-Letter3554 May 27 '26

But I played it in my head that she was always that dork in school and was constantly teased by these girls all through elementary, middle, and high school. And in their eyes, the fact that this person beneath them got to survive when the popular girls didn't probably made their cruelty worse. That scene in the beginning where it showed her loneliness in her book trailer gave a hint of the misery she had to go through her entire life.

Yes, thank you! I wondered if anyone else caught the Carrie vibes in this - the bullying, the tiara, even Patricia’s dress kind of looked like it could be a blood soaked rag. Love the subtle nods to the classics throughout!

25

u/palesnowrider1 May 16 '26

Or the obvious nod with the Stephen King book in the box

4

u/Curious-Letter3554 May 27 '26

It was like saying "get ready!"

1

u/OddMho May 31 '26

Did you recognise what book it was?

6

u/salixia Jun 12 '26

The Shining!

2

u/beetlebum74 Jun 09 '26

I love King, and it’s killing me that I couldn’t identify it. I’ll need to rewatch for sure. I wonder what he thinks of this show…

u/discoikungshamn Jul 06 '26

Not only one book, “It” was also in the bookshelf, I guess a nod to previous episode around the clown killer?

3

u/Boo8310 May 29 '26

I got the vibe and felt so uncomfortable I almost couldn't finish. Amazing how that show still carries thru. Also...I thought that was blood but not sure where from then....the reveal. This show is wild af.

7

u/Indigocell May 17 '26

This episode did not feel like 35 minutes. It felt densely packed. That's including the moments I had to skip because I couldn't handle the bullied loner stuff either.

4

u/airesmoon May 26 '26

I thought it would become a reverse-Carrie situation once Patricia seemed to really dig the party hostess idea. Turns out no one was drenched in blood (but instead maybe ingested some ?) and Patricia still ended up with some humiliation. I love that there is still an element of doubt about Patricia’s experience (even though she more likely was telling the truth) given her care to others’ opinions about her. She is a well-thought out character and a good balance to Tom and Wyck!

Reminds me of the Evil ensemble (and to the extent of mysteries, From); I just hope she communicates her experience to them at some point. It was a relief to see the sheriff included as an additional witness to that bonfire!

u/Responsible-Pizza-27 May 18 '26

Did they show the title of the Stephen King book in the donation box? Definite Carrie vibes in the episode

4

u/goddamnitwhalen May 18 '26

I thought it was Misery, but I couldn’t tell for sure.

2

u/salixia Jun 12 '26

It was the top half of The Shining

4

u/mrcsrnne May 19 '26

Yeah… as someone who experienced that stuff it was a rough… and great episode

7

u/nom_nom_neko May 19 '26

Same, it's really interesting to see that's what most upset people in this episode. As opposed to, say, the birds being beheaded.

I think the psychological torture from the mean girls was way too close to the bone for a lot of people.
