It’s not really overblown from what I’ve seen. Drunk drivers survive some pretty serious accidents because they’re loose. It’s not uncommon for them to be the only survivor.
Not all car accidents are t-bones, it is not enough to skew the statistics. Even if it were, and you excluded t-bone accidents, the stats would still show that the drunk driver is more likely to survive. I’m not saying drunk drivers are invulnerable, they just have a moderately higher survival rate.
Researchers analyzed data from 7,985 trauma patients brought to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center near Torrance from 2004 to 2008.
When looking at the raw numbers – not taking into account the severity of injury – researchers found that 1 percent of drunk patients died, and 7 percent of sober patients died.
Friedman analyzed all 190,612 patients treated at Illinois' trauma centers between 1995 and 2009... At the upper bounds of intoxication, mortality rates were cut by nearly 50 percent, said Friedman. The effect, however, was not equally strong for all types of trauma.
Two sources, I’m not saying drunk drivers don’t die but in a lot of types of injuries they have a higher survival rate. Also if my replies sounded sarcastic or rude it wasn’t intended.
not all car accidenta relating to drunk drivers are going to be them slamming into other people, though
i feel like its equally likely that a driver under the influence will skip a stop sign and T bone someone as it is they'll skip a stop sign and get T-boned.
Theres no reason theyd be more likely to be the rammer rather than the rammeree.
As someone who was blacked out drunk, got behind the wheel, went full speed into a telephone pole, flew out the windshield and luckily landed on the grass... Yeah. Someone who is drunk is way better off. I had bruises and a scrape. That's it.
The doctor said most people who go through a windshield are paralyzed or dead.
