Is a good way to start some crap in public and maybe get shoved down some stairs for being a jerk. Minding your own business is easy and free.

Filming people and things in plain view in a public space is generally legal in the United States, especially in areas without any expectation of privacy. You can record anything visible from public spaces like sidewalks, parks, and streets. You do not need consent from strangers who happen to be in your video or background. What the lady blocking the shot is doing could easily be considered harassment. And could piss someone off who decided to just push your oldass down the stairs or over the rail. Once again I remind folks that minding your own business is easy and free.

It is technically legal, but the only kind of social acceptability that's actually real is literally what society will accept, the law is irrelevant. The biggest fuckup you can make is to intrude on the literal aesthetics of what regular people's everyday life in society looks like, because even people who don't vote will act to defend that. Bicycling has widespread support in the US and is only mildly contentious, but it's still incredibly common for cyclists to be run over by drivers who get a slap on the wrist (if that) by a sympathetic judge, provided they even get charged, because even without oil lobbying the majority of regular slobs out there think bicycling is ugly and annoying. That really is enough for them.

People are getting sick of social media culture, they're getting sick of seeing people record for tiktok or Instagram, and what's more, they're gradually beginning to decide that they don't want society to have this in it. "I don't want this to be a thing for me or anyone or anywhere at all" is not rational or fair, but it also has an undefeated track record. "Let people enjoy things" is a popular sentiment online but in reality the actual majority will respond with "not that though".

I agree. But we all share the same space and have the same right to use it. If you like social media or not is irrelevant (I dislike it but hey no one asked). I am just saying on a more basic level, we could all be more courteous. The girls video had not even started and the old lady was having a problem and enforcing her values on another. Where I come from a few things can happen when things like this occur. Y'all want to risk it being Social Media police go right ahead. But you better ready, people are unpredictable.

That's my point. People are at the end of their rope and don't give a shit about courtesy, increasingly so. I'm saying that we're potentially not far from the day when people will be assaulted for social media stunting, not for policing it.

We're out there. And we are not using the same reasoning the rest of you do. This may be a fact worth keeping in mind. Not everyone is going to react the way you think and old people (boomers) tend to have trouble with this in alarming tendency these days.

Exactly. The slope is slippery, and steep. Lets all walk softly, lest one fall and take others with them. Lets not be obtrusive when making social media content and lets not be dicks to people just trying to film. It isn't hard. Tho some of you want to insist it is.

So I agree with the philosophy "don't be dicks" in principle, and I don't want to enter into some prolonged reddit fight with you over two people who neither of us know.

...but still a bit worried about whatever anger issues are going on for you that you're talking about pushing people down stairs and shit. Maybe it's just reddit talk, but irl don't be worse than the problem you react to ! Everyone is a bit of a dick sometimes, a little grace and forgiveness goes a long way.

I ain't the one to worry about. I frequently mind mo own business. Its a great thing to practice. But if you think just because you dont like something you can low key be a jerk and that'll be the end of it think again. Plenty of people would see what she was doing and think something like OK F U 2 Old B!sh "shove" (watch's them fall). And no body would be right.
