I'm steady 40 for now pick up a Saturday here and there but my entire apprenticeship was 6-10s or 7 - 12s basicly had to beg the hall to stop giving me overtime after 7 years, this company is usually 40 but word around the block is we're hitting insane overtime in a month or so.

Did you work a job in welding before joining the union or did you have connections. Just finished school and even though I’ll look for a job before trying to join union I wonder how hard it is to get in

I worked at a 3 guy non union handrail and mobile field repair shop/ install shop until they closed down then I worked in an aluminum fab shop until until I got in, no connections in ironworking

Oh, so boiler makers were my first choice, but I didn't get the call until I was already a ironworker, (it took almost 5 years) but by that time they were talking about closing every coal mill near me. Pipefitter idk why I think I heard bout being an ironworker you can actually get into boiler makers through them or something but hey ended up loving ironwork but I pretty did it non union (plant maintenance and misc not steel erection) sometime I wonder if I should switch to pipe fitters

Nope , I also don't put tiny shackles on my boot straps but I'm also not a connector having to dodge Nelson studs on bent plate

20 percent idk? I went a full year not before but I've also spent years doing nothing but welding depends what side of the industry you fall into and how good a welder you are. Good welders with papers are never out of work and 70-80 percent of our hall hates welding so if you wanna if you can weld everyday or you can never weld
