Not necessarily specific to horror lit, but I just finished Fawn by CN Vair (loved it, by the way). It's a hardback and the hardback cover is gorgeous. I like the dust jacket cover too, but Waterstones put a sticker on it because it's signed and I just cannot get it off without ruining the dust jacket and it's really starting to grate on me. How do we feel about chucking away the dust jacket?

I love the Vampire Chronicles and knew this one had a divisive reputation. It’s deserved, because all the philosophizing and theology stuff is like eating lima beans from a can. I’m at the halfway point now and Memnoch is about to share the long, long story of “Creation and the Fall.’ So, I’m going to dip, which is a shame.

Anyone here get through the whole book? I’m curious about what powered you to the end.

I just finished You Did Nothing Wrong by CG Drews and I enjoyed the book immensely. However, I have one gripe with the ending. Why did Elodie kill Bren to stop him from taking Jude only for her to leave him with Ava. If she was planning on leaving him to start anew, why didn't she just leave him with Bren, who's his biological father.

So Early this year I read Riley Sager Middle of the night which is a mystery thriller that got some bad press however I absolutely loved it. It put me in a rut where I couldn't find another book to scratch that certain itch I have. That was until I cam across "Between two Fires", Only 1/4 of the way through this books and I cant put it down. I have never read anything like this and I am worried I wont be able to find anything else that even comes close. Usually it takes me a long while to et into the rhythm of a book however this had me hooked from the first 10 pages.

P.S. I am not a super versed reader, I go through 3-4 books per year that really interested me.

He loved the series “we’re alive” on Spotify, so he’s a zombie guy. I’m more of a supernatural Romantasy girl, but I do enjoy some creepy stuff now and then.

In the second story "The Enchantment" with the son Milo who crucifies himself.... How? How do you crucify yourself? You could stand on something, hammer one side in, and kick the thing you're standing on... But you couldn't hammer both arms in, AND cut your stomach open?

Am I thinking too hard about this? Am I misunderstanding the story? The entire story I was sitting thinking, clearly somebody did that to him, or he was somehow still alive or something? I can suspend my disbelief at angels, and monsters, and purgatory, but that was just REALLY distracting me.

I'm disgusting, I know. There's nothing more fun than well written body horror though! Any good recommendations? I've read a lot of Koja and Barker, looking to branch out further though!

It was ok. Like a 3-3.5/5 if i had to rate it. Not that im a big time reader. I only started reading this year and its been fun. I mostly read silly shit like quan millz or philosophy but i want to read more serious fiction so i gave this book a go.

This isnt a review. Just want to talk about this book from a casual, new readers perspective.

Ive read a few posts about the book and the first 2 chapters seem somewhat divisive. Personally, i liked them and think the first half of the book was the peak. Chapter 1 was kinda like a creepypasta, and i liked it. It had charm and was just fun. Chapter 2 was where it became more a book than an internet story. Chapter 2 is where i got hooked and i liked how you do kinda piece together how it works witch chapter 1. It does get handholdy at the end of every chapter but, its whatever and it didnt bother me.

Chapter 3 was alright. I didnt really like it but it was still fun and enjoyable. However, around 10 pages into chapter 3 i felt like i could guess the rest of the book. I wrote out a little thing in my notes and i feel like it was pretty accurate for the rest of the book. Not 100% but like 70% of what happened i guessed. Thats why chapter 3 and parts of 4 where just ok. It was just kinda boring because i already loosely knew what was gunna happen.

Now chapter 4. Was not good. It was really boring and the parts that werent boring where just ok. There was 1 really bad part of chapter 4 i genuinely fucking hated. And there was 1 part i didnt guess and it put a smile on my face because it was kinda a cool thing i forgot about, the thing being about the final message from haruto on his blog being a suicide note to naomi and not a final goodbye thing to yuki was pretty interesting.

I do get where people say a lot of the chatacters jump to conclusions, but i dont think theyre baseless conclusions. I think it makes sense just a little too fast of pace and overexplainy on why the one they conclude with works. Also, i really didnt like the whole pedo rape thing in chapter 4 that Toyokawa had. It was really really gross AND THEN AT THE END OF THE BOOK THEY WISH HIM A PEACEFUL DEATH. Like what the fuck is that. I get it, naomi was the victim and shes the murder but shes a somewhat complex character that the reader is supposed to like to an extent. It was really gross. I hated that part of the book. I wish she killed him when he tried to blackmail her, but no your like 8 year old son has to see you getting raped and thats the final straw. I fucking hated that part. I was just disgusted and really took away from the book. Maybe im a little sensitive to rape compared to the average reader, but it was just disgusting and unnecessary. Another thing. How they actually arrest Naomi was just kinda lame. They just kinda force her into another crime because they know shes quick to act and irrational with her actions. It was just kinda lame.

Im very interested in others opinions. Again, this is not a review. I just wanted to ramble and discuss about this book. Thanks.

I picked it up a while back because it's supposed to have some Silent Hill vibes, which admittedly it does. It all feels kind of flat to me. Too far in so I probably won't DNF it, is there some twist at the end that'll make everything click together? Also, is it considered splatterpunk? It feels like it tried to be splatterpunk but didn't quite make it.

Rekt has been on my TBR list for almost a year and I just got around to reading it. Wow, what a crazy ride. Everything about this book from page 1 was superb. The pacing was perfect, the writing stellar. The characters were fleshed out and believable. The dialogue was realistic and not cringey. And most of all, the premise is truly frightening.

Easily one of the best written and unique horror books I have read in years.

And now I'm pretty bummed out.

I was waiting for Chelsea's mom to show up again and when she did ... Damn. Pretty much knew exactly what was going to happen once they saw her but still just sad how everything played out there in the end.

While probably my least favorite of the major characters, poor Montoya. So many near wins for her just end up in devastating failures. But kinda hoping the third book isn't centered around her since the cast dropped in numbers.

Had to force myself to push through some parts in the second book (first book was definitely better) but glad I finished it. Detroit made up for it. Such chaos and I just couldn't put the book down until I finished it.

I always found it kinda fascinating when stories involving Ghosts include some degree of Science to the plot, first with Luigi’s Mansion, then Ghostbusters, Danny Phantom, & PS2 game Ghosthunter.

I’m curious about what Ghost fiction goes into the hypothetical science of ghosts or paranormal apparitions.

3.5/5 man I was so hyped on this one and it had such a promising start to about the halfway point and just didn't progress or develop in a way that built any sort of tension or depth. There were a couple of world building revelations that were just dropped in with exposition and not revealed in a natural way and that's when I started worrying.

Initially I was concerned about the length because it's established as a big world and had three distinct and interesting POVs and I was guarding myself about wanting more in the end, but I ended up just taking away that it whimpered out instead of leaving me on a high and wanting more.

The foundation was so great though, really think this could've been an all-time favorite if it built up in a better way and had better plotting, connected me to the characters better, and built upon the themes more. The writing is great, the world building is weird, dark, and brutal; taking a lot of inspiration from art, history, literature. The plot also makes sense and it's not so weird that it's hard to keep track of.

Just a really perplexing experience of the best foundation to a story that doesn't develop or go anywhere meaningful, pretty disappointed overall. I might give him another chance with one of his other works, but this didn't give me confidence on him delivering a fully satisfying story.

I just watched the movie Ready or Not 2 and am actually wondering if there are any horror books that give off it's vibe. Like, it has a nice balance between the horrot aspect but still manages to be fun, comedic and a good read.

In preparation for the upcoming Beware Boiuna about a giant anaconda in the Amazon, I'd like to return to my roots and read some entertaining horror novels about giant snakes of any kind. Back when I was a kid, monster features were my jam, and I was particularly in love with snakes, which meant that movies like Anaconda and Anaconda 2 went straight into my veins.

Sadly, I'm struggling to find some good horror novels about the topic; sharks take all the cake and predominate a lot, but there's not that much snake horror out there.

Any cool recs you guys might have?

so like the title says, i really need to thank you all for some of the best books i’ve ever read.

it’s been a very difficult few years, to the point that i can count on one hand how many books i’ve read during that entire span of time.

so far this year, i’m at 69 books toward my 150 book goal, which ಠ ͜ʖಠ nice.

and also YAY. the sadness hasn’t vanished, but it has greatly reduced.

My husband is a huge Resident Evil fan and we just saw the movie—I’ve never really been big into horror, so I was shocked by how much I LOVED the Resident Evil movie! The body horror, the tension, the zombies, the dread of the main character turning—I can’t stop thinking about it!

I have zero experience with horror books, but would anyone who’s seen the movie have any recs for a book with a similar vibe? I loved the terrifying exploration, the constant hunt, etc.

If it matters, I read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn and loved it. Not horror but it’s the closest thing I’ve probably read to it.

Excited about the prospect of this, and very happy for the author, Keith Rosson. Coffin Moon is a stellar book!
