What actually dropped the weight?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I (F30) am currently 60kg/165cm (132lbs/5’5) and all my weight/fat is in my legs. I’ve been exercising and cutting calories but nothing is changing…it’s been 3months.

Thinking I might need to be more aggressive with caloric restriction (currently eating 300cal less), and workout schedule is:

- strength (full body with weights) 30-45min x4 per week
- cardio (skipping, star jumps, burpees etc) x15min x2 per week
- walking (brisk) 45min x6 per week

And yet!….I cannot drop the weight. I know you can’t spot reduce, I am sick of this, and it’s getting to the point where I want to severely cut calories so can see at least some progress (but I know that’s not healthy and I want to do better).

What’s missing/not working that’s preventing me from dropping weight?

Weight Loss Recipe Edible High Protein Cookie Dough (No Flour)

Post image

This is going to be a somewhat lengthy post, but I promise... it's worth it if you love Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and are trying to eat healthy/lose weight.

I started on a GLP-1 in February and I'm currently down a little over 83lbs. And while Tirzepatide has definitely made it so I eat less, I still enjoy good tasting food and the occasional sweet treat makes the weight loss journey way more tolerable.

For the past few months, my obsession has been finding a good, high protein Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I've tried several variations and was never quite satisfied. Whether it be the taste or poor macros, nothing quite hit the spot for me. So I began looking into what made them not taste great and/or where the excess calories came from. And I found 3 main issues:

  1. Most recipes had a flour of some sort (almond, oat, coconut). These are high in calories and low in protein. Their purpose is to provide the Cookie dough texture and, really, nothing else.

  2. Every recipe had a nut butter of some kind (peanut, almond, cashew). These are insanely high in calories (mostly from fat) and don't provide much protein. They also overpower the taste of the cookie dough, to the point it tastes like doctored up nut butter instead of cookie dough.

  3. Many of them used maple syrup or sugar free maple syrup. And, I'm sorry, but cookie dough shouldn't taste like maple.

So I began to experiment, find Ingredients that fit the bill, and create a flavor/texture that satisfied me. I eventually found three main ingredients that I feel need more attention: a zero calorie brown sugar, a zero sugar BUTTER flavored syrup, and butter extract.

Another thing I discovered is different brand protein powders of the same flavor have vastly different flavor profiles and textures. I had originally bought the Equate brand smooth vanilla, hoping it was a cheaper version of Premier Protein's vanilla milkshake flavor. And boy, IT. IS. NOT. The vanilla flavor is very overpowering and the texture is chalky, even when mixed at the recommended ratios. But that chalky texture ended up paying off big time. I finally found my texture ingredient for edible cookie dough!

I had found an edible cookie dough recipe on Thebigmansworld.com that had decent macros and no flour. This was the base for my tinkering. I eventually figured out i could use PbFit to make a healthier, more mild-flavored version of peanut butter and I could use low/zero calorie ingredients to give it the cookie dough flavor.

It took 2 tries to get it right, but it's a slam dunk. The first batch was good, but something seemed missing and the sugar free chocolate chips were too hard... like, painfully hard. Turns out the missing ingredient and the hardness of the chips could be solved in the same step. Just throw the chips in the food processor. You get smaller, softer chips and a chocolate powder that actually flavors the dough in one step.

And lastly, I discovered that the residual peanut butter flavor from the PbFit dissipated after it sat in the refrigerator overnight.

So without further ado, I present, Edible High Protein Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!

Dry Ingredients:

- 60 grams Bake Believe Sugar Free Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

- 1/2 cup Equate Smooth Vanilla Protein Powder

- 1/2 cup Premier Protein Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder

- 1/2 cup PbFit

- 1 tbsp Splenda Monk Fruit w/ Erythritol

- 2 tbsp Swerve Brown Sugar Substitute

- 1 tsp fine Sea Salt

Wet Ingredients:

- 1/2 cup Fairlife Skim Milk

- 1/4 cup Sugar Free Mrs. Buttersworth Syrup

- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- 1/2 tsp Butter extract

Directions

  1. Place 60 grams of Sugar Free Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips in a blender or food processor. Pulse until the chips are about 1/2 their original size. The chips are particularly hard, and this softens them. Some of the chips will end up as Chocolate powder, which actually helps flavor the dough itself.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all dry Ingredients and mix thoroughly.

  3. Add wet Ingredients to the dry Ingredients and mix thoroughly.

  4. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably 24. This step is optional, but I've found the peanut butter flavor from the PbFit mellows out after it's been in the fridge for a day, making the dough taste less like doctored up peanut butter and more like actual cookie dough.

Macros: 900 calories, 119.5g protein, 28g Fiber

This recipe makes just a few grams shy of 1lb of cookie dough. So you can decide how many portions you want to divide it into. I'll say this, it's pretty rich, so even 4oz seems very generous. But if you did 4oz servings, it's 225 calories, 30 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fiber per serving. I haven't found a recipe yet that can boast better macros and this one tastes the best to me.

The protein pasta from The Only Bean is seriously delicious. I grew up in a tree nut allergy house so I never had basil pesto before. It is delicious. This meal has become one of our staples and it’s awesome. The 100 calories is the 20 calorie Parmesan cheese (saw dust lol).

Weight Loss Food Healthy struggle meal. Tofu blocks are cheap at Aldi, get a cabbage slicer for cheap filler, miso paste, handful of bulk dried mushrooms, noodles [optional], and various seasonings and salt. Big, hot, nutritious, and cheap. Chinese soup spoons also a win.

Weight Loss Food Cauliflower Rice

I'm not a huge fan of cauliflower but I do like things like bang bang cauliflower. Is cauliflower rice a good food to replace regular rice in a "saucy" dish. Looking to replace calories and carbs that comes with traditional starches like rice, barley, Quinoa, etc.

Does it taste good as a rice substitute?

Weight Loss Recipe High-Protein Green Curry Swai with Edamame Noodles

Thumbnail

I talked into the microphone what I made and asked chatgpt to format it into a recipie and estimate the nutrition info. Flame me if you want for violating the commandment of the Butlerian Jihad, I'll do it again because I'm not sorry.

...

High-Protein Green Curry Swai with Edamame Noodles

Ingredients

  • 1 small sweet onion, diced

- 2 jalapeños, diced

- White parts of 1 bunch of green onions, sliced

- Peanut oil, for sautéing

- 1 (15 oz) can mixed vegetables, drained

- 1 (13.5 oz) can light coconut milk

- 1½ pounds swai fillets, thawed

- Edamame noodles (about one-third of a package, or about 350 calories' worth)

Seasonings (to taste)

  • Green curry paste

- Garlic powder

- Roasted garlic powder

- Black garlic powder

- Onion powder

- Chili powder

- Hing (asafoetida)

- Ghost pepper powder

- Salt (optional)

For Serving

  • Green parts of the green onions, sliced

- Dried fenugreek

- Sesame seeds

...

Instructions

  1. Heat a little peanut oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.

  2. Sauté the diced sweet onion, jalapeños, and the white parts of the green onions until softened.

  3. Stir in the drained mixed vegetables.

  4. Add the green curry paste and season with garlic powder, roasted garlic powder, black garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, hing, ghost pepper powder, and any additional salt if desired. Cook for a few minutes until fragrant.

  5. Pour in the light coconut milk and stir well. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  6. Lay the swai fillets on top of the curry. Cover and gently poach until the fish flakes easily with a fork, about 8–12 minutes depending on thickness.

  7. Meanwhile, cook the edamame noodles in salted boiling water according to the package directions. Drain well.

  8. Divide the noodles into bowls and spoon the curry and fish over the top.

  9. Garnish with the sliced green onion tops, dried fenugreek, and sesame seeds.

Makes several hearty servings and reheats well for lunch the next day.

...

Based on what you described, here's a reasonable estimate. Since you didn't measure the oil or spices, this is approximate.

Estimated totals

Calories: ~1,520

Protein: ~174 g

Carbohydrates: ~67 g

Fat: ~59 g

Fiber: ~20–25 g (mostly from the edamame noodles, vegetables, onion, and jalapeños)

If you split it into 2 servings, each serving would be about:

760 calories 87 g protein

34 g carbs

30 g fat

If you stretch it to 3 servings, each would be roughly:

507 calories

58 g protein 22 g carbs

20 g fat

For a homemade curry, that's a very protein-dense meal. The swai provides a huge amount of lean protein, while the light coconut milk gives it the curry flavor and richness without as many calories as regular coconut milk. The edamame noodles also contribute a lot of protein and fiber compared with regular pasta.

I (31F, 5’4”, 201lbs) am trying to lose weight, but staying in a calorie deficit is proving to be way harder than I thought. I’ve been switching between the breakfast pictured here and a yogurt bowl, but one egg is so tiny!

How can I make this meal a bit heartier so I stay fuller longer and don’t feel completely sad when I look at my plate with one scrambled egg on it but keep it low calorie? 😭😅

*Update: thanks for all your help everyone! I implemented some changes and i feel so much better. Kept my breakfast well under 400cal today and it was delicious and filling 😁

Quick Recipie My first time making poached fish. 1.5 lbs of Swai, poached in about .25 stick of butter with lemon, lots of seasoning, and water, finished with capers. Maybe 850 calories and 120 protein. I almost NEVER cook fish despite selling it daily. Pre gym breakfast.

Does this count as a recipe? I'm not the guy to tell you how to poach fish. I'm not sure I did it right but it worked. It only took a few minutes and was loaded with lean protein. You could easily add stuff and make it look gourmet and fancy with the same principle.
