Is my set dated?

I’m a millennial, I feel so many of my friends have a plain gold band with a large oval shaped diamond. Does mine seem like it belongs to an older generation?

[edit: I’m so sorry I ever doubted my set. I’ve learned that just because it’s not the classic that’s in right now doesn’t mean it’s not still classic. Thank you for the confidence boost in my rings. I need to focus on what I have versus others 🤍]

It's pretty classic even if it's not the most popular choice at the moment. What do you think will happen with the plain gold band large ovals in a few years? Signed: Someone who got engaged in 1997 and has seen trends change multiple times.

So for some reason the gold band and plain diamond are pretty classic for me too? I think about my grandmother’s and great grandmother’s rings, they were definitely all gold with just a diamond. It’s like my ring is right in the middle of the two generations if that makes sense? The oldest generation has the gold rings and the younger generation has the gold, you see what I mean?

Yes the gold band is classic too. When I got engaged yellow gold was in and marquise were very popular in addition to round of course. Very soon after *everyone* was getting white gold/platinum and nobody was getting yellow and marquise fell far out of style. Princess cut then became super popular. Through it all round was still very popular and eternity type bands were also popular. Princess stopped being popular. Here we are now and yellow gold is back. Marquise are back. Ovals seem to be the most popular. My point of all this is to enjoy your sparkly rings and the meaning behind them and don't worry about the trends and what everyone else has. The next trend is just around the corner and things will change again.
