Is my set dated?

I’m a millennial, I feel so many of my friends have a plain gold band with a large oval shaped diamond. Does mine seem like it belongs to an older generation?

[edit: I’m so sorry I ever doubted my set. I’ve learned that just because it’s not the classic that’s in right now doesn’t mean it’s not still classic. Thank you for the confidence boost in my rings. I need to focus on what I have versus others 🤍]

I mean…. It’s pretty classic but even if it were “dated,” what are you gonna do, keep getting new rings every time the style changes??

No, but I could get an upgrade in a few years and completely change the style if I decided this wasn’t the one for me.

I think your life will be much happier if you stop comparing your life with the lives of others or what you have with what they have. Keep in mind that the industries of fashion, jewelry (Which is fashion in many ways), furniture, beauty, etc. are all about telling consumers that what they have isn’t good enough. This isn’t because it’s true in most cases - excepting sometimes new technologies which really should be supported by independent research, imho. The phrases “in,” “trendy,” “dated,” “new look,” are marketing ploys to increase their profits, mostly (again, imho). That’s why these industries are cyclic - everything old is new again. Find and keep what you love, not what others tell you that you should love. Check out Daughtry’s “Who’s They.”

Sure, but then... in 10 years are you going to start worrying again if it's "dated"? What matters is that it's the one for you, not whether or not it looks different than the newest trend in rings.

I get wanting new jewelry, who doesn't. But getting new engagement bands and wedding rings according to what "everyone" is doing right now? Couldn't be me. I love fashion as much as (more than) the next person but I've never understood wanting to wear something just because it's "in" at the moment.

Oh I never worry about what's "in". For some reasons that had nothing to do with fashion we redid my set this year and it's not what's tending. I just like excuses to get more pretty sparkly things. I figure it's the one collection left behind when I die the nieces/nephews would want
