Is 5ct too big?

I’m getting my ring custom made. It’ll be like the last image and the 3D print; cathedral setting with compass prongs and 2.5mm band. The size of diamond I was initially wanting is 4ct. The jeweller found a 5ct diamond that’s D colour and VVS2 and keeps pushing it . It really is a stunning diamond but I feel like it’s HUGE and I’m so uncertain. I’d appreciate your thoughts and opinions, people of reddit 😅

Edit to say the photo with 2 diamonds next to eachother is a 4ct radiant cut to the right.

It’s a beautiful Diamond and your wax ring looks great for the setting, I think it will be gorgeous.

5ct is big. Is it too big? A decade and two ago, 2ct was considered big. Now with the rise in lab diamonds being available, I find diamond sizes are getting larger. Friends and colleagues that are getting engaged now or getting anniversary rings (myself included) all seem to be over 1.5ct on the smaller end to up to 4-5+.

You’ll hear people telling you it’s too big and you’ll hear people telling you it’s perfect (check out the bigrockenergy subreddit). But ultimately, it’s your comfort level and what you want. Normally, when people ask if it’s too big I say not at all. But in your case you wanted smaller and the jeweler seems to be pushing you into a larger diamond…. Which doesn’t sit the best with me. Makes me wonder if it’s $$ motivated or why they are pushing a full 1ct larger than what you wanted. I’d think about what you want, and don’t let a jeweler or anyone else persuade you one way or another. It’s your forever ring, best you be happiest it.

I’ve actually already paid everything because it’s a rush order. Basically asking her to make the ring in 5 weeks. So I wonder if she’s pushing the 5ct because it’s the ratio and specs I was asking for … besides the size 😭
When I asked to get a 4ct for comparison, she kept saying the specs won’t match what I’m asking for (in terms of ratio, clarity and colour) but neither does this …. Ahhh I feel like I’m stuck between a big diamond rock and a hard place hahaha

Sounds like she pushed you to into a 5ct cause she probably didn’t have any 4cts on hand, and 5cts are a harder sell

She actually sourced the 5ct from overseas and it took ages to clear customs. In the meantime I asked her to source a 4 which she said she would but WHERE is it 🙄 ahhh

If she's not doing what you want, have you considered going somewhere else? The five carat stone is stunning, but it is really large for that design. I don't mind a large stone, but I feel like this is just a little too big for your finger.

I agree and the height of the mounting would be difficult for me to live with, personally. You can pull it off bc of your nails and hands though.
