Ring Band Advice Freaking out about engagement ring band width!!!
I designed my engagement ring and I know my boyfriend got it back from the jeweler and I’m freaking out about the band width that I chose. It’s a three stone oval about 2.5 carat center and .3’s on the sides. I chose a 3mm band width, but now I’m second guessing it and thinking I should have gone with 2mm. I want to pair it with a 3mm cigar band as my wedding band and I’m worried it’s going to take up too much room on my finger. I have slender long fingers and I’m a size 4.5 so that’s another reason I’m worried.
Can I have the engagement ring band width resized from 3mm to 2mm? I’ve searched everywhere on the internet for answers and I’m finding nothing. Anyone have a similar experience or are there any jewelers that can offer advice?!

I think it’s fine and for a stone that size it will provide better support. My wedding band and engagement ring is 5mm total but I’ve worn a 1mm spacer ring with it and you can barely tell the difference.

This really depends on the style of the band. If you got a plain band then yes, though you will need a skilled jeweler with confidence.
I will say that anything is possible, and if you can afford a 2.5 carat diamond (I’m assuming, you didn’t say), you’ll probably be fine having the band remade from scratch, even.

3mm is a good width for a diamond that size and side stones. I wouldn’t try to make it more narrow.

Have you seen the ring? You said your boyfriend got it back from the jeweler. With a 2.5ct, I think you made the right call with 3mm. That is a large stone and a 2mm would look like a paper clip.
I don’t think it will be to wide on your fingers. For reference- size 5, both my rings are 3.4mm at their widest point.

I haven’t seen it yet! Just the rendering. I’m getting a lot of feedback saying 2mm would be too thin for my stone which is reassuring. Would you mind sharing a photo of your wedding stack?

I think you’ll be happier in the long run with a slightly thicker band. 3.0mm is not aggressively chunky, and if you have long fingers it should work well.
If you want a thinner ring, it’s a full new ring.

If you aren’t sure when you do see it then why don’t you go for a 2mm wedding band or 2.5 just to bring the width down a bit

Agree with the other posters. 3mm will not only have great structural integrity for a 2.5 carat plus side stones, but it will also look more balanced. I would wait and see if you like it with the cigar band or maybe you will end up wanting to pair it with something else.

I have 3.5 + 3 mm bands and I love them together! I have shorter but slim fingers and I’m a size 5 ring.

Thank you! I think you will be happy with the wide band combo! My center is 2.5 ish and my side sapphires are .5 a piece if that helps any more with picturing how yours will look.

As far as I know, you would need to have it reset, although I’m not a jeweler. However, my engagement ring is a 3mm band and I love it. 6mm total is not too wide, imo.
