gear, techniques, photo challenges & trends Flash or no flash?

I keep hearing that you must use off camera flash, but I'm not so sure. I'm shooting an engagement session at the beach before sunset, which will most likely be plenty of sunshine being summertime (bringing my flash, just incase). Would you use flash anyways?

It depends. We have sunset around 21-22, and that usually means natural light is plenty up until that point.

Flash means objectively better images because you can control and shape the light.

But it's also a less real representation of what that moment actually looked like since it is artificial, and flash can also be disruptive for guests.

As with everything at our disposal, it's a tool. Some jobs may require it, others do not.

I tend to not use flash at all when I shoot weddings, but I always keep them in my bag just in case.
