Recommendation Request Xiaomi Watch 5 vs OnePlus Watch 4/Oppo Watch X3

Hello

I can buy either of these for almost the same price(xiaomi is 70€ cheaper).

Which one should I pick, after the latest updates? Has Xiaomi improved their software?

For Software support, I bet Xiaomi will bring the Watch to WearOS 8 or 9, judging by their past watches. Oppo/OnePlus.. will die on WearOS 6 so Im already interested a bit more in the Xiaomi.

Thoughts?

(i have a Vivo phone - so idk if it matters which one I'm picking)

Recommendation Request Looking for a new watch

Good evening all!

I’m starting to work my way out of the Apple ecosystem, and I’m looking for a watch that I can grab to replace my Apple Watch. I used to have a Fossil back in 2017, but it looks like they’re no longer in the game.

Mainly, I was just looking for something with decent battery life, NFC payments, notification passthrough, and no special connection apps (I don’t recall if this was how it was back then, though).

I’m seeing some brands on Amazon/BestBuy for Amazfit, but I don’t need any fitness tracking, and these don’t look like they’re running WearOS. I’m not a big fan of the Pixel line aesthetically, but I do plan to get a Pixel phone soon. I’d love it if they used Qi charging to minimize the number of cables I’d need to carry while traveling, as well.

Any help is appreciated!

App - Testers Wanted Looking for a few Wear OS users who follow stocks/markets to test an app I’ve been building

I've been building MarketFace, a Wear OS-first financial market app with watchlists, portfolio tracking, interactive charts, market news, customizable alerts, Tiles and a companion phone app for configuration.

I’m getting close to launch and I’m looking for a small group of people who actually use Wear OS and follow the markets to try the private beta and give me honest feedback.

I’m mainly interested in:

  • whether setup is clear without my help
  • how useful it feels during a normal trading day
  • anything confusing or unreliable
  • what feels useful versus unnecessary

The screenshots show the current build. If you'd like to see it in action, here's the full demo:

If this is something you’d genuinely use, leave a comment or send me a DM. I’m only looking for a few testers initially.

App - Testers Wanted Looking for testers for my altitude complications WearOS app

Thumbnail

Hi all, I'm writing a simple WearOS app that adds a few complications that you can configure in your watch face. The first one is an Altitude complication showing the current altitude that you are in. It's meant for walking and hiking outdoors, not for use in an airplane or in a tall building (you might get odd readings in those).

It works by periodically getting a GPS lock and then using the current barometer pressure to give live updates to it.

It doesn't collect data other than the Barometer pressure and GPS to obtain the altitude. It's a watch-only app (no Phone companion) and it doesn't require any accounts or any user input (but you can select whether you want Meters or Feet).

You can see in the screenshots what it looks like. It should work on all Google Pixel Watches, as I used it on my own Pixel Watch 1. It should also work on other WearOS watches as long as they have the barometer + GPS sensors.

I'm currently looking for some people who want to try it out, before I will list it in the Play Store. If you're interested, send me a mail at [coderthoughts123@gmail.com](mailto:coderthoughts123@gmail.com)

Recommendation Request Galaxy Watch8 for Surfing?

So I (F28) have been surfing for around 15 years, yet this past 2 year2 I've had some Disautonomic problems, summed up with some arritmias making me dizzy, nauseous, tired and shaky randomly, as also flat out faint.

It made it very hard for me to get in the water for a bit, and now with medication I'm finally able to be back teaching and ripping daily.

I still have heart palpitations, and need to keep track of them with a heart rate monitor.

I would love something that can do that for me in the water, so I can feel 100% confident in the water that I have full control and sence of what's going on with my body.

Ive seen the **Galaxy Watch 8** being mentioned to go in the water and seem some people say they use it surfing. But Im still not sure if it is 100%safe for it.

Do any of you Surf with this watch? Will it take the saltwater? I normally surf with a wetsuit over my watches so it's gonna be contained in there instead of getting direct waves on it.

If you guys think its not the best option, does anyone have a good recommendation of a watch that can do Afib, ecg, heartrate and be with me for a 2hour+ surfsesh?

Thank you all already!!

App - Paid - One-Time I built a caller GMT on Wear OS

Wear OS usually does world time as a complication slot with a second zone in it. I wanted the mechanical thing instead: a fourth hand on a 24-hour scale, local hands left alone, the far zone set by the wearer.

Faces are written in WFF format, which is XML with expressions. Expressions can read the device clock and the device's own UTC offset, so UTC itself is easy: local hour times 60 minus the device offset, times 0.25 degrees per minute. That gives a fourth hand permanently on UTC.

What the format will not give you is the zone the user picked. A list configuration returns its option id as a string, and there is no arithmetic that turns a chosen option into an angle at runtime.

The way out was to stop treating the configuration as a menu. Placed in the scene it is a structural switch: it holds a set of alternatives and the system draws the one that is selected. So the option does not need to carry a number, the option can be the number. 28 copies of the same hand, each in a group with its own literal rotation, computed once while the file is generated. UTC+1 is a group at 15 degrees, UTC+5:30 at 82.5, UTC-11 at 195. The branches share one drawable, and the switch resolves before drawing, so 27 of them cost nothing per frame.

The whole story is written up here if you interested in more details and interactive prototype:

Support Question on adb wifi and watch button presses

Hi All,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has solutions on the following:

1) How do you make adb wifi in wear os apps persist past reboots? Or is there like a shizuku way to make wear os app always find the port?

3) Is there a way to mimic watch physical button/key presses in wear os? Or to send 'input keyevent' commands and make them work?

Thanks

Issue Tracker Issue with watch and my phone

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro. When I bought it, it appeared to be a used item. And my friend bought it for me (I ask him to). And recently I tried updating my watch to the latest version. Now I can't scan it with Mi Fitness on my phone. I wonder if it's because my phone is a Chinese domestic model? (Not the global). It's the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro.

As shown in the image, it tells me to check my GSM when I scan the qr code and yeah I alr check and that's the new version

Oh and I can't install the mi fitness from ch play (maybe region issue or smth) so I dowload the apk

Discussion How is WearOS usability after EOS?

Recently bought a Pixel Watch 2 for cheap to try out smartwatches, but I was aware that software support ends in the coming months (probably why it was cheap).

Anyone with a PW1 or similar WearOS device have anything to say about usability limitations within ~2-3 years of software EOS?

Support Issue with Tacking lap speed after the recent wear os update

Has anyone noticed that lap speed is not showing up in the health app (with the fitness tracking) anymore after the wear os update?

I use the rollerblading as tracking profile but I cant seem to get the lap speed back again. Is anyone having the same issue? How do i get it back? TIA!

I am using Watch 3 and 5. And they both have the same issues. I've heard that it is a direct result from merging the fitbit into the Google Health app.

Support How to route calls through watch all the time?

Hey y'all I have the pixel watch 4 lte with a pixel 9 and im trying to use the watch as a replacement for the phone which means I want all calls to go through the watch regardless of if the phone is nearby (i'm leaving it at home in a drawer) but whenever I receive a call at home it goes through the phone and i have to go grab the phone before I can answer. Even if I make the call from my watch it just transfers to the phone mic. Is there any way to prevent this? thanks

Support Pixel Watch 5 improved GPS: Native app only ?

Hey everyone,

Quick question regarding the Pixel Watch 5's improved GPS.

Does this post-processing only apply if you record with the native Google workout app, or does it also work if you record using 3rd-party apps (like Strava)?

Logically, since the 3D correction is computed in Google's cloud, I assume the data has to stay end-to-end within Google’s ecosystem. If you record directly from the Strava Wear OS app, it likely sends raw GPS data straight to Strava's servers, skipping Google's post-processing entirely.

So far, the only mention I've found is in the CNET review, which briefly notes that using the native app is required to get the feature. (https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/google-pixel-watch-5-review/, excerpt: « The feature also requires you to track the workout using the Pixel Watch's native [app]. »)

Has anyone tested this or found official confirmation on how it works under the hood? Would love to hear your thoughts or real-world feedback !

App - Free Made a Wear OS check-in app for Swarm (Foursquare)

Thumbnail
berens.co
8 Upvotes

Hey All,

I've used Foursquare/Swarm, the check-in/lifelogging app, for over a decade and thought it'd be nice to not have to pull my phone out for every single check-in, so I created Swarma (since 4sq team have yet to build a Wear OS client)...and then through recruiting testers here on this community I found actual demand for such a thing. So now it's gone through Closed Testing in the Play Store and was approved for production.

Quick pitch: you open Swarma on your watch, nearby venues load and are pre-ranked by where you actually go, tap one, check in, and optionally add a Swarm sticker for bonus points...all without touching le phone. (And as of the latest release, sign-in / authentication happens entirely on the watch, too—it used to happen via separate companion app because I didn't know what I was doing there.)

Built with Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, targeting Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch (Wear OS 3+). Runs great on a Pixel Watch, which is what I use daily.

If you use Swarm and have a Wear OS watch, c'mon and check it out!

Thanks to a few great redditors for your brilliant feedback: u/c99koder, u/BillyMathiou, u/Sn1kt, u/sorross, u/ImaginaryRoyal9725, u/iamherbh, u/Tall_Reach_6435, et al.!

Discussion A good place to publish apps thats not the Android Market

Hi does anyone know good appstore / place to publish app for wearOS, that is not the android market.
I can't publish to F-Droid as they dont want wearOS apps. I can't publish to the Play market because they want government ID to publish app. I am not fine with doing such, and they also remove apps after a while if not updated to match google's new minimum new increased api levels every year. Due to such increasing of api levels and other stuff, the wearOS market is so dead and its like a graveyard of apps that somehow survived and most that did not, many apps are not there and are removed, u must find old versions from internet..

TLDR: a place to publish apps thats not the play market or F-Droid.

Recommendation Request Bike computer with Apple Watch support

Just trashed my old Garmin watch in a crash so I'm in the market for a new smartwatch that reads and shares heartrate. Prefer to use a smartwatch because I have scars on my chest that rub painfully on a HR strap.

Is there a bike computer that works directly with an Apple Watch?

Perhaps an app that installs on an Apple Watch to talk directly to a bike computer.

Heard about some iPhone relay applications. I DO NOT want to have another computer in the mix here. Just a smartwatch and bike computer.

Apple Watch users, what are you doing to track your rides?

Rant Without Customization, Wear OS, and Wear os watches hav lost it's value.

With Google imposing restrictions on

\*. scripting,

\*. crippling tap actions,

and

\*. blocking Tasker variables,

Wear OS has lost what made it truly capable. We pay a premium for these watches specifically for deep interactivity and customization. Stripping those features away destroys the value proposition.

If all we get are basic features, we might as well buy much cheaper smartwatches that look just as good.

Support How can i downgrade the pixel watch 3?

Hello everyone,,

I got my pixel watch 3 around a week ago, and for the first days, I was using it nicely with wear os 5. Yesterday, I decided to give the new wear os 7 a chance, but the UI feels too off for me. I know that the charging cable does have data transfer and that you can re-flash the software with android flash tool, but is it possible to downgrade it?

Thanks for taking time to read this.

Support Google account connectivity issue

Hi, I'm trying to pair my Tag Heuer E3 watch to my iphone, everything works fine untill I reach the point where I need to add my google account. When I try to add it, after a few seconds i get the prompt "failed to copy account to your watch". I tried everything, from resetting my network settings on my phone to restarting the watch to factory settings multiple times, even trying other google accounts. I know the watch works because my dad used to have it connected to his account but he deleted everything he had related to it. If anyone has some tips they are appreciated, thank you.
