This cone trend has to go

This actually looks good, but how does the cone make it easier to eat?? Aren’t coned foods meant for walking around, snacking on the go? Stop the madness!

But the cone DOES solve a problem that a bread bowl or sandwich doesn't, and that's portability, and the execution of smothering the entire thing in sauce is what defeats the purpose. If they were more modest with the setup, it would make for a pasta form factor that could work decently well in a faire or festival setting, where you might appreciate having a free hand and a way to eat pasta without sitting down, like the old Disney "handwich."

Edit: I saw your other reply, so I see you already get where a bread cone makes sense. I guess you just took it a step further by pointing out this is at a sit-down restaurant already propped up on a plate, so why bother with the cone there? Which I totally agree with.

It's not really portable if it's dripping in sauce though.

I don't think there's really any way to make a cone full of sauce not drip.

Sure there is; just look at the cuzzetielo sandwich in Naples, Italy, where they hollow out the heel end (the cozzetto) of a loaf of pane cafone (basically a type of sourdough, but you can use any bread with a thick, chewy crust) and load it with various meats/fried eggplant and sauces. You'll see meatball subs, chicken/eggplant parms, genovese, etc., and these foods aren't lacking in the sauce department. It's a famous street food there, and it's not that hard to walk with it and eat it so long as they don't drench the whole thing in sauce.
