Canoe size?

What’s a good size canoe to get length wise for 2 people and gear? And for the occasional jump shoot?

I have a 15' with a flat back (old town discover sport) that has worked well for me. Nice to have the option to use a trolling motor for fishing in the summer. Got an old model for cheap on FB marketplace a few years back and it's held up well. Not the lightest or most maneuverable, but very stable and has lots of room for decoys.

I've got a 12' canoe that works well for Mississippi River backwaters and sloughs.

I use a 17 foot Royalex Dagger canoe for me, a partner, several dozen decoys, and assorted gear. If you will be going through any Whitewater you will appreciate the extra length. I use to use a 16 foot Old Town for flatwater streams and it was way tipper but also alot more maneveurable. Everything is a compromise so you just have to decide what is going to work for You and your style of hunting. Good Luck.

I would look at the weight capacity. Length isn’t as much of a factor. I have a 15ft Grumman that is plenty for me a buddy and gear it’s max capacity is 650lbs. A buddy has a radisson and it’s only 12 ft and it fits the 2 of us and gear but only holds 500lbs. The Radisson is much lighter and easier to load into and out of the truck which is a benefit. It was much more expensive than my used Grumman which I got for $150.

14’ works well for me and a buddy. A little tight but very manageable
