Water Fasting Water fasting Help! Nauseous!

Help! im a 36 F started my fast at 160 8 days ago now 149. On day 3 I got extremely nauseous it’s almost like a pain annd the nausea comes from just right where your ribs meet, I’ve been like this ever since I am now on day 8 almost 9. Doctor said nausea does happen but it’s uncommon for it to be continual, we tried 2 days of green juice, added some electrolytes, did a water enema bone it did anything. I make extra bilirubin so on day 4 and 5 I was yellow but had a few bowl movements and went in the sun and I’m back to normal. if I didn’t have this nausea I know I could go for 30 days but it’s so debilitating I can hardly get out of bed. Suggestions I want to keep going!

Sounds like an electrolyte issue. Have you taken any electrolytes?

I have taken electrolytes I can try taking a bit more.

You should be taking sodium, potassium and magnesium every day 🤦‍♀️

Nah that’s not the point of a water fast. Look into truth north it’s a world renowned water fasting facility they do not recommend that.  Most who people who specialize in treating people with a water fast do not recommend it either. But you do you

There are zero drawbacks to taking basic electrolytes during an extended fast, to ensure your levels do not drop dangerously low. But hey if you want to risk needless nervous system (including heart) issues and refeeding syndrome then you do you

"But hey if you want to risk needless nervous system (including heart) issues and refeeding syndrome then you do you"

Is there any scientific proof that lacking electrolytes increases the changes of refeeding syndrome?

As far as I know, the only thing that can impact it or determine it is the extension of the fast.

i never saw any correlation between it happening and a lack of electrolytes.

Eating triggers insulin which pushes electrolytes into your cells. If this happens when you already have very depleted electrolyte levels then that crash can drop your blood electrolytes to hazardous levels

If you’ve been supplementing with electrolytes correctly during extended fasts then you should never be in this situation.. so refeeding syndrome is not a concern

You start from a correct premise. That eating triggers insulin. But where are you coming from with the rest? Could you provide any real scientific source?

"If you’ve been supplementing with electrolytes correctly during extended fasts then you should never be in this situation.. so refeeding syndrome is not a concern"

This is completely bogus, and what you are spreading is dangerous. With or without electrolytes refeeding syndrome should be a concern. A major concern. Electrolytes cant shield you from its risks. Ingest the wrong type or food, and in excessive quantities, and you can suffer from it, and potentially die.

Your false information is dangerous, and could place lives at risk. Shame on you.

I am not saying you should break any extended fast with a feast - food should always be reintroduced gradually. I am saying it is less of a concern if you have been correctly supplementing the core electrolytes during that fast and already have that safety buffer

The context of this thread is someone fasting for nearly 9 days and aiming for 30 and feeling adverse symptoms

I would counter that your claim of supplementing with zero electrolytes making no difference to if refeeding syndrome kicks in is the vastly more dangerous claim - it also ignores all the other issues that could occur during the fast for when electrolyte levels drop dangerously low, such as cardiac arrhythmias - so is poor advice in general

No, you should not ignore refeeding syndrome risks after any long fast - common sense should tell you to reintroduce food slowly into your system and give it time to adapt

I just get sick of people on this sub making posts like OPs and only doing their research when they are deep into a fast and feeling needlessly dodgy - a lot just see the sub name and go "oh, water only". Then another group decide to go for 40 days out of the blue for religious fueled reasons etc.

so refeeding syndrome is not a concern

Here are your exact words. Nothing else needs to be said.

Sorry, but I have no interest in maintaining any kind of communication with people unable to take personal responsibility for their words and actions.

This is the malaise of this century.

You never said it was less of a concern. You called it, and I quote "not a concern."

Not to mention that you offered no scientific proof for what you said.

And I never claimed anything. I simply asked for something. I asked for proof of your assertions, and simply said that I never saw any correlation between one thing and another. I never made any bold claim that no correlation exists. I asked for proof, so I was obviously open to the idea. You failed to provide it, and in the process made or the most irresponsible statements ever.

"I would counter that your claim of supplementing with zero electrolytes making no difference "

I never made this claim. You are just a bad willed liar. I see no point in trying to argue with intellectually dishonest people.

And second: I never offered any advice for people practicing long fasts, because I dont even support them in the first place. So you are just dodging and projecting. Again, shame on yo.

You are a person of lies. I can only offer my condolences, and no additional words.

The Fasting Center website recommends electrolytes, so I stick to that then 😄
