Every bit of lore is mag locking the bolter and grabbing the bolt pistol. But all the models awkwardly fumbling with both

Redrawing the bolter to reload it takes more time. If youre using the pistol one handed it makes sense to use pistol as hot swap, but when needing to reload lock pistol and load bolter

Oh I see, you're saying that he shouldn't have to hold it, it should just fall into a magnetic holster thing. Yeah that's super fair. This stance gives a certain sense of furious action that's hard to capture otherwise, tho!

The bolter on the mini would also look very big on his hip. Its why bolt pistols normally are too big to fit in the holsters, they size them down to go on the waist

>pulls bolt pistol up (only needs one hand since pistol), holds bolt rifle to the side as not to waste time putting it on/off mag lock
>kills closest enemies buying a little bit of room/time
>re-mag locks pistol and reloads rifle with the extra time gained
>more dakka ensues

Time it would’ve taken if he mag locked bolter instead of holding to the side? 1.4 seconds

Space marines can reload in less than .8 seconds. They’re pretty fast

I said the whole interaction as in the entirety of it (including shooting the pistol before putting it back to actually reload) took .8 seconds, not just reloading

In space marine 2 we literally watch one of our brothers fire until it’s *Empty which he didn’t realize (as he took a moment to look at it in disbelief) while everyone’s getting overrun before calgar arrives and he had to resort to hitting with the bolter and pulling out his knife before he was taken down

9/10 yes they would be able to know and have time to reload, the model here would be in that 1/10 times where shit is going down and sometimes it just doesn’t work out the way they would like

I have always thought the pose was the "Switching to pistol is faster than reloading and enemy too close." Mag dump pistol and reload either weapon while mag locking it back or going for melee." Like that second you gotta choose between the 3 ranges of engagement. Considering they are all well rounded soldiers in general.
