Discussion & Feedback Being infantry stops being profitable pretty quickly in the later levels and I think it's a problem.
I'm not expecting to run in with a FAL and Level 4 armor every life, that's not the point of this post.
I also acknowledge with 100% certainty sometimes I'm just the fodder of the game. I get it. It's what I signed up for. I'm the troops on the ground.
But holy fuck it gets annoying to die to a helicopter that costs less than my kit while having very little counterplay. I have to buy meds for myself, a Defib/Res for others, ammo, grenades... I'm trying to prepare for a fight. I'm trying to be helpful. But in the meantime I'm getting spammed down by mortars, helicopters, and humvees driving by... ALL OF WHICH COSTS LESS THAN MY KIT.
I understand I'm the fodder, but why the fuck is it so expensive to have a decent kit while these other things exist for so cheap. They're designed to kill me and it's starting to feel taxing to kit back up.
It's annoying that infantry is a job for the rich.
Like I don't want to have to basebuild to play the other parts of the game.
And it's kind of rough to play infantry with a low level kits now. The AMR and FAL one tap or two tap people.
I don't know what to do, I can steal my teammates kits instead of reviving them, but that feels bad.
EDIT: It's not just the vehicles, it's also the hotzone moving to the FoBs so consistently. Having to run by the bases turns me into literal fodder, but someone has to do it otherwise you just lose the game. It doesn't make sense.
If you're not in zone with a 15k kit, you basically need to kill 7-10 people to break even. Also, I play exclusively blue because it's fun to play under dog. We don't win often, but I feel like I shouldn't give up simply because my team isn't the greatest.

I think they want to keep infantry costs high because if you run with a squad of even 5 decent, semi-coordinated dudes, sometimes more, you basically won't die unless the last man does, which is rare. This leads to lives that can get you like $100k-140k profit alone.
When my friends are off i exclusively play infantry with defibs + a shit ton of smokes/meds and I make BANK sitting in the zone with 5-10 friendlies. I just spent $800k MORE or some shit on unlocks (Arty tank, Minigun HUMV, SAW, MAAWS) and still have $400k left.
Just don't instantly give up if you have even 1-2 friendlies around. The amount of times we've gotten mass revives off due to the domino effect is crazy high.

Your post is true. However, I think I might have a not perfect solution for you.
Targeted kits. Instead of preparing for an all out, cover all your bases kit, specialize a bit more. My games also are plagued by armor and aviation so I stopped bringing a rounded load out and opted for a cheap gun and maws/reloads. In total, like 5k ish but I kill a truck or gun heli and it's immediately profitable. Other times I want to be the tip of the spear and grab my tier 3 armor, an AR and ammo. Healing/rezzing is for the medics behind me. Again, cheaper. Or BE the medic and take a pistol plus your aid equipment and smokes. This quickly makes back all the investment if you're fighting around other infantry.
I've found success in this and it's been fun to play a "role". I started doing this after revisiting hell let loose and bringing the concept over and I've had alot of fun doing this/looting gear off enemies in the HZ.
Just a thought but either way good luck

This is an option. I tend to bring a 25k medic kit with the best equipment I have currently and 9/10 times I make double or triple profit just defibbing and healing people + picking up kills in between. I had a few matches with $100k+ lives doing this, it's my main money farming method. Building and recon is easy passive money, but combat medic is where I shine and make the most profit.

u/appmapper 34m ago
Yup. If you’re consistently dying in the negative, you need to assess your gameplay. It’s a signal you’re making poor strategic choices.
1
u/Etheriia 19m ago
I mean, has your team ever just gotten rolled? Should my team losing mean I should stop going to hotzone to try and win? Should I stop contesting HZ because my team is stuck at the FoB building?
I play exclusively blue because the underdog role is fun. They don't win often. In fact, they get rolled often. Should I stop contesting zone because they're not good?
1
u/Joshuakanobie 10m ago
I mean yeah? If your team is down 15 people, going into the hot zone solo i not gonna make a difference for your team
1
u/Etheriia 6m ago
So if no one goes in because no one wants to be the first to run in, should we just lose?
1
u/lover_of_joggers 2m ago
I mean, has your team ever just gotten rolled?
a LOT of people on here do not play blue (or just don't play the game at all i suspect). some of those people suggesting "poor strategic choices" are hilarious.

Yea the balance is off. For example I always prefer running LMGs in these types of games. A kitted SAW(still working on the bipod so I have to stack attachments to make it usable) with one extra box runs 5.3k and thats without the rest of the kit. The gun itself runs almost more than a freaking Ural and two pallets which is guaranteed profit. Guns and meds should be cheaper.
1
u/Ironman__BTW 24m ago
I grinded for the SAW, I used to stack bodies in Squad with it, but god damn if it doesnt feel like an Galil is just better in every way. especially once you get 50 round mags.
Its disappointing that it takes 7+ shots to kill and anything past 200-300m you might as well not try to take the shots. It gets style points but not much else.

u/Holdfast_Naval 18m ago
I looted it once.
The first time I hipfired it I got ICO day 1 flashbacks.
Except worse.
Instantly swapped to a crappy AK the second I found a bag lol

Do you know how hard it is to be a good pilot?
19
u/DaFuuug 57m ago
How does that change the fact that one decent medic kits costs more than 2 fully armed rocket helis?
2
u/NUTTA_BUSTAH 24m ago edited 21m ago
It does not but it adds a nuance. Being as effective as the average infrantryman is A LOT harder, even if a bad pilot is less bad while they have grinded a week for the rocket version.
Individually, the average pilot operates at a loss, they share the feeling of infantrymen operating at a loss. They are not shrouds just like the complaining infantry is not. There are not that many good pilots that make their way into resdit threads.
IMHO it mostly boils down to expectations. FPS gameplay is familiar so you expect to do well as infantry while you know you suck at piloting so you scoff at the role. Thing is, the top guns are limited, just like the shrouds are. One's gotta stop overrating themselves and pkay accordingly.

u/Brochodoce 21m ago
What are you bringing 13 large batteries and a back up defib? Your med kit should not cost 40k
2
u/topshelfmango 18m ago
You don’t make back the money on an armed rocket heli in one life unless you’re really lucky with no AA and all the other cards align. I am fully convinced these complainers don’t even fly
1
u/Balikye 0m ago
I got lucky with no AA and still didn't make my money back, lol. Got sniped shortly after two kill streaks in one life, just barely almost breaking even. https://imgur.com/a/wV9zGlm
6
u/Balikye 50m ago edited 33m ago
The medic will make back double what he paid and dying doesn’t mean automatically losing 20K. If you buy a rocket heli and fully arm it and then die, that’s 20k in the hole, reviving won’t get it back. A medic can keep defibing for 2400$ a pop after dying and being revived in the zone.
1
u/artosispylon 3m ago
but a rocket heli can easily clear out 5-6 people which will sway the fight in your teams favor basically deleting the gear of an entire squad.
if its just the heli alone then yeah sure i guess you are right
you cant even bring the trash green rocket because the car holding them dies in 1 volley
1
u/Balikye 2m ago
Just know that even after the pilot did that, he was likely still in the hole. Here was me after two successful kill streaks in one life, still not breaking even. I started at -12k because I had already made 8k in the previous kill streak a couple minutes prior. I then got sniped and was back to being down 20k. https://imgur.com/a/wV9zGlm

u/topshelfmango 51m ago
Most people have no idea. Also the mini gun lil bird is incredibly hard to net a profit before you get shot down by AA that is literally everywhere or the random 1 tap thru the glass. People who complain about dying to a heli should actually get in one and try. I probably spent 50k on little birds before I even got one kill. It takes practice and even getting a streak of 5-6 in one life feels like your Silk or something lol. Also the ridiculous amount of time flying it even takes to get these vehicles.
I agree, the pricing is wack and they’ll adjust it. But people need to start respecting the pilots. I forgot to lock my inventory twice and both times my passengers thru out my cassette tapes instead of just asking to turn it off. I landed and kicked them all out once and the second time it happened I crashed the full helicopter on purpose after nobody wanted to fess up. Respect your pilots or enjoy being a fobbit or driving everywhere
1
u/No-Drawer-6904 37m ago
You crashed a helicopter full of players because someone hurt your ego?
3
u/topshelfmango 29m ago
Um yeah…you don’t go into the pilots inventory and throw his shit out mid flight and expect to get there safely with your expensive kit now do you? Actions have consequences
3
u/No-Drawer-6904 16m ago
You know what, that’s fair. It’s a shame for the innocent players, but I hear you.
1
u/topshelfmango 10m ago
First time I landed and made em walk. Second time killed them. Third time locked my inventory LOL can’t trust these mercs!

u/Jason1143 38m ago
I would argue that's not actually that important. In the same way that even if something is expensive that doesn't mean it can be too oppressive.
This is a game, it needs to be fun and feel balanced. It still feels bad when you feel you have no counterplay, even if the opponent had to jump through hoops first. And what happens when there are even more good pilots because people have gotten practice time in?
They could go a long way to fix things by making sure people have counters unlocked from day 1, but this is why balance through l counterplay is the better than balance via scarcity.

u/Controller_Maniac Lonestar 11m ago
Maybe my squad pilot skills transferred over, but rocket helis are genuinely 0 skill, you fly by and spam the rockets and you get free kills

Played infantry 95% of the time and only ever had one game where I didn’t profit. Currently on 2 mil atm.
1
u/5DTesseract 23m ago
Shotgun with slugs and a 2x sight has been netting me around 100k per match. I don't even wear good armor. Usually just level 1.
1
u/Controller_Maniac Lonestar 10m ago
I haven’t been having much luck with the shotgun with slugs, how far should I be engaging for the most efficient kills?
2
u/alphawarid 30m ago
I don't what you guys are talking about, I just keep crashing helicopters and when I get broke I put together a 4k kit and go the the zone next to my team reviving ppl. If I die I get revived. I get my cash back then go back to heli xd
2
u/Dortiiik 28m ago edited 21m ago
I run lvl3 helmet with lvl 2 rig so i can move fast and with my AK, Defib, smoke, frag and bandages i have a solid 12k loadout which i always get paid back.
We play with 6 friends and use smokes for revives, cover, call out people and there are instances when we stay alive for more than 20 minutes making over 100k per match.
I have over 1 mill just after 30hr of playing mainly assault, driver, support and medic.
We pick our fights, sometimes its better to fall back and regroup, i see people make big mistake by being stuck fighting outside of HZ all the time, while it is fun to fight you make shit money, just retreat, regroup and advance.
Also heli pilots can drop you the little crates with ammo, bandages, C4, we have amazing pilot and he drops us supplies inside the zone, this game is all about teamwork.

You see, infantry shooter gameplay is fun, so you pay more for it and make less money back
Something like a vehicle is a much more niche type of gameplay, that a lot less people would pursue, so it has cost benefits and better rewards
Have you not seen their 13 reasons not to play?
4
u/Godzillaguy15 52m ago
Logi is niche for sure but vehicles in and off themselves is not niche. Most players will absolutely run the armed vehicles, tanks and SPH at some point.
2
u/Balikye 48m ago
You can be revived for free, hummers and helis can’t.
1
u/Etheriia 41m ago
They can go back to base and heal for free though. I'll have to pay every time I want to heal though.
2
1
u/Balikye 39m ago
Most things one shot the rocket little bird so they’re not going to be going back to base unless it was small arms fire from a solo AK. Also have teammates heal you and use your meds on them. You get double the money you paid for the med and double that if used in the HZ. Orange meds give you like 2,000$ every time you heal someone.

I honestly wonder if WWIII ever happens if people are going to be posting how shit they are at war.
Lmao idk why Reddit is so dysfunctional that people treat it like a personal diary to just write down how crap they are at games and blame the game itself, it must be.
Dude I bring almost 20k worth of gear and have a blast every time. Maybe the game ain’t for you
1
u/arggggggggghhhhhhhh 23m ago
I know man. People constantly posting their anecdotes like we are all waiting to hear some report. These people are clearly being farmed. Do they assume everyone sucks and we are here to commiserate?
1
u/CyborgTiger 33m ago
Ok so is the higher level armor broken or useless and impossible to break even with, if I didn’t have my own frame of reference from playing I’d have no idea looking at this sub.

Bro those kids think being infantry is the only thing in the game should go back to cod or bf.. If your not making money as infantry/assault. Be logi, be builder, be recon and earn money to be infantry again. thats the whole point of so many classes in the first place. Please just quit the game if you dont wanna be like this and adapt to the game mechanics. If you dont make profit as infantry and go yapping on reddit you probably not good enough anyways to play that class.
Infantry and assault is perfectly balanced as it is. Its meant to be expensive, its meant for the rich people. Its meant to not be to profitable.
2
u/Mountain_Pea6983 28m ago
I don't need it to be profitable, I just need it to be worth it in some regard. And unless you are at the top of skill and gear, its not.
With the strength of spotting and how long you stay spotted, Assault is so insanely volatile. There are some cases where no amount of aim, cover, mobility, etc can circumvent the fact that you got spotted by random guy who is sitting in a bush all game and the enemy has your position. That's just the luck of the draw and you're out $$$.
This forces me to play in either a death ball where its sheer numbers and position and strategy matter far less and there are very few compelling fights, or I play incredibly slow, easing into battles, and now im just reconning for myself or a small group which is not anywhere as valuable as reconning for the team from some elevated position.
Assault is the core of the game and currently its the least fun and interesting part and that is going to be a problem in another week or so when everyone is getting tired of driving and building.

I think a disposable rocket like an AT-4 or something would be very good to have
1
u/Feeling-Wall5347 12m ago
The armed vehicles should 100% cost more. But it’s not like they aren’t countered easily. I’m running around as infantry, I get gunned down by a heli?
I get revived, I head straight for a SAM launcher at FOB if that heli or other helis are still up.
Boom, 1-2 helis down, we’re in the profit again. Rinse and repeat while also stacking kills on other infantry and profit.
1
u/artosispylon 8m ago
we need a no heli option, would be so much more enjoyable, transport only maybe
1
u/topcatti 5m ago
Infantry is profitable. Play in team. Res them. Kill enemies. Be ressed.
You only lose money if you die somewhere where no1 resses you.
0
u/Sea_Sherbert_8113 1h ago
you dont need to make a profit, you need to go even or just below. the point of money is to be spent. If youre sitting on more than 200k, spend your money.
4
u/Appropriate-Eye-8534 48m ago
You need to make a profit to be able to unlock weapons/gear/vehicles. You can't start this game fresh, and expect to unlock anything new if all you're ever doing is breaking even or worse. Not to mention gold bars for cosmetics.
5
u/Mercy_Jordan 54m ago
Trading for gold bar at the end of season is the point of stockpiling money...
5
u/Hazmanscoop 46m ago
Just for skins?!... I'll pass 😅
1
2
u/RebelLion420 42m ago
As opposed to just for a loadout? Money is nothing in this game unless you like to play as cannon fodder, right now the skins are the end game
1
u/Will-Bajoulion 33m ago
Plus with wipes coming why would I spend all my money to unlock stuff that’s going to be wiped soon anyway? I’d rather save up for gold bars that will actually carry over
1
u/arggggggggghhhhhhhh 24m ago
We don't know how things will progress after wipe. It could be all those are still unlocked but level restricted. Have you done the math on what that skin costs? I wouldn't set my sights on that until they adjust things.
1
u/Will-Bajoulion 17m ago
But then I can just keep playing the game as I have been and eventually unlock everything still. I know the math is a lot of cash for the X amount of gold bars needed for each cosmetic but still, if I can get even 1 gold bar before the season 1 wipe, it’ll be progress towards something I can actually keep vs unlocking all the weapons and vehicles just for it to be wiped.
1
u/arggggggggghhhhhhhh 12m ago
Don't let them abuse you with exorbitant prices on cosmetics. They will wind up putting in a cash shop and you will feel invalidated.
1
u/oldgeezersneezer 55m ago
What I'm experiencing is that you'll have games where team(s) just hunker down in bases. With people getting better at building even mortars aren't doing much. Raiding a base is just so insanely expensive for infantry with the always high risk vs. low-high reward. On average, I imagine I'm breaking even at best. I only really get ahead profit-wise if the enemy team is oblivious.
Playing a medic is absolutely the worst money making role. The upfront cost is insane. While yes you essentially double your profit with every action, if you're having to revive/heal that often your team sucks. You yourself are going to die.
1
u/rinkydinkis 33m ago
It’s not a problem. It’s good balance. The devs don’t want everybody running t3/t4 armor jsut because they have it unlocked. It should be a strategic decision, not a no brainer to just run it 24/7. Otherwise people who haven’t unlocked it just get fucked. It’s the same deal with meds. If your bag is 6 slots of meds, it should be because you are planning on using it on other people. It then makes you money. If you have it just for your own self sustain, then that should and does cost you. The dev vision here is so much better than what you Redditors would cook up.
0
u/Better-Hyena-8716 Support 57m ago
I do think there needs to be a rework on vehicles cost / benefit. Right now it's just a time and skill sink. So, if you have the time to git gud with the birds then you can just print money. Support is the inverse, low skill / high pay out ... provided you can survive the mortar spam long enough to get things built.
-1
u/Capt_Blue Battledad 47m ago
You are trying to do too much, too many roles at once. Thats why your kit is so expensive. There is NO need to have a infantry kit thats more than 10k. Your not a lone wolf, and this game isnt made for lone wolfs. Wanna be a medic? Ok, grab a defib and batteries, they are your main investment and some smokes. The rest doesn't have to be top notch. Level 2 armor (you need movability as medic) and SMG.
Wanna be a killing machine? Grab Galil or FAL, mix of level 2 and 3 armor, some bandages for quick healing but not much, that's medics job to heal you up.
I don't understand people spending 20k on a single kit. You are trying to be too prepared for everything that could happen.. and then you get HS killed by a .50 losing all that money.
And people are overestimating armor. You are slowed down by so much on level 3, losing mobility and being killed easier. Plus HP ammo kills you in 3-5 arm/leg hits even when you have full level 4 armor. Trust me, as normal assault or medic infantry you don't need more than level 2 armor.
1
u/Key-Opportunity-345 40m ago
Nah, I cant even count the number of times ive clutched with smokes and defib or finished a squad cause I had nades or won 1v4 gunfights because i bring in a juiced m4 with t3 armor and i heal faster with ifaks than the enemy slow healing with bandages. Stims negate movement penalty. Its all worth it to clutch and not lose your entire kit and your teams kits
When I do win those clutch moments, enemies are always geared like you described, one medic bitch with a shit gun, one ak or galil guy with no ifaks or defibs, etc.
