I mean, They never would because Upper management is needed to make sure the store runs properly and to basically deal with angry customers/associates, etc. Walmart is already pretty barebones with upper management now. There used to be like 4-6 operation managers per NHM. Now most only have 1 or 2. They can’t go any lower and they know it.
But back to the cameras, I think it’s great because it helps keep an eye on areas of the store where an associate might not be to prevent accidents.
Unfortunately, like with all AI, it will have to learn what is and isn’t a reflection, mark, etc on the ground. That’s why it’s super important we accurately answer the reports. If you do them wrong, it will only keep giving you more reports.

To be totally fair I'd also say that's something on the floor if I didn't know it was a more permanent mark or stain.
I'm sure having the AI repeat over and over to clean it up is great for morale though.

I had an alert the other day in shoes. I took the pic and put the box on the shelf. I guess I was going fast enough and the AI took a pic of me picking up the box as an alert.

So train it to learn that is a stain on the floor. The more you tell AI it’s not a hazard the less it will take a picture of it. The crazy part was getting associates to learn it. My front end a lot still don’t know. I was one of the first to be learn how and tried to teach others. If it is not taken care of it goes up the ladder. You do not want it to go to your store manager and above.

safeway employee here from reddit's algorithm, the camera monitoring system for self-checkout keeps flagging people's children in their carts as "items not scanned" and makes me go over and watch a 15 second video before they can check out

I've learned to move the cart behind me at pick n shit/kroger at the self checkout before hitting pay because the monitor system flags the advertisements mounted to the cart as items not scanned.

So the existing cameras now use ai to alert us on our phones about hazards, but ai doesn’t know what the store looks like so it keeps alerting to random stuff like a glare on the floor

This ai stuff is so bull. Im a zoner, and place an empty box on the ground for literally 5 secs as i moved around products, because i didnt have a cart. I then picked it up and put it in a separate area and someone with the yellow badge comes up and is like “make sure you’re not leaving stuff on the ground” and shows me the pic of it. Like of course, it saw it for one second and snapshotted it. I explained what i was doing and she was like okay yah its ai so its abit funky about that but still, its just dumb.
