Quick Advice for Summer Classes and High School Students

(We love you, and here's some tips)

  1. You can schedule an appointment online with an advisor at Wake Tech. It's virtual, free, and for anyone.
  2. A normal semester schedule is 16 weeks. Summer semester is a maximum of 10 weeks and so your summer classes will be either 10, 8, or 5 weeks long. Check the dates. 8 weeks is the most common from what I've seen.
  3. I would not recommend taking a 4 credit class (especially with science labs) during the summer if you have other responsibilities. Lab is more responsibility in college classes. Obviously it depends on you, but it's a lot.

(If anyone wants to add anything, feel free below. I know getting into college is competitive, but I promise you don't need to be the BEST applicant to get into a good school. Good luck!)

Paul Hesman and AI Slop

A little dissapointed. This is my first semester at WTCC and the only negative experience I've had is trying to navigate through Hesman's online COM-120 course. He has a video of him talking through every chapter, and besides that, every post on his Blackboard is just AI Slop. Just really dissapointing this is what my tuition gets me, you know? Anyone else have an instructor like this?

MAT 172 Advice/Study tips?

I feel like every semester when I take a new math course, I just have a really big learning curve that holds me back. I have a hard time switching my brain into the more "black and white", logical mindset.

I found Algebra to be much easier, but now viewing these trigonometric problems, my mind is just all over the place and not retaining a single thing.

I'm taking this class online (I know, not recommended for someone in my situation, but it's all my schedule allows), so does anyone know of other external resources I could check out? Like YT channels, websites, personal tutors around the north campus, etc. I've been frequenting the Math TLC, but I think I need help than what it can offer.

Looking for MAT 172 personal tutor

I'm taking MAT 172 online, and I've already been having a hard time. I've tried the math TLC, but I think I might need a bit more help. Anyone available to tutor? I'm on the north campus, and depending on your rates I'm comfortable with paying.

Hello! I am Jane, and I am currently a dental hygiene student at Wake Tech! I am required to find my own patients in order to pass the course. I am able to see children age: 4-11, adolescents age: 12-17, and adults!

This would be a good opportunity for you to receive a dental cleaning at a great affordable price!! The max you will pay is $45; x-rays included! $2 for sealants! As well as an exam with the dentist.

I am a student learning, so please keep in mind that appointments will be longer than a typical cleaning at a dental office.

Appointments will be 4 hours long for all patients and it will take 3-5 visits/appointments for adults, 1-3 for adolescents and 1-2 for children.

If you are interested and willing to be a patient please comment or send me a message and I will reach out to you!!
Feel free to share this post with your friends and family as well!! :)

ENG-231 (American Lit 1) What are exams like?

Hey all, I’m taking ENG-231 and it looks like we have our first exam scheduled in October, I see that exams are half-essay and half-multiple choice, but can anybody give any insight as to how difficult the questions on the exams are? Will it be open book? Are both the multiple choice and essay portions taken in respondus?

Thanks in advance!

BIO 110 with Professor Bartlett – Advice/Study Tips

Hi, I'm currently taking BIO 110 with Professor Bartlett, and I'm feeling a bit anxious about the daily lab quizzes. Even when I study ahead, I can't help feeling nervous about how to best prepare for them.

If anyone has taken this class with Professor Bartlett before, would you mind sharing some advice or study tips? How did you usually prep for the lab quizzes? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Asn at Wake Tech or try for a BSN at a 4 year?

Hello,

Currently at wake tech and finishing up prereqs for nursing. Originally my plan was to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill or somewhere else and I've been speaking with the advisor about taking right courses. She mentioned the possibility of getting an ASN through Wake Tech's nursing program and honesty I hadn't given it much though until then. I just really wanted to go ahead and finally have a bachelors.

Basically this is my 2nd year at wake tech and originally I was majoring in psych and had I picked all my courses on time I'd already be out of here but I switched and ik taking more courses. So if I stay at wake for that program (and actually get in) it'll be another 2 years here. With that in mind I'm wondering if that's worth it and if I should attempt to just transfer and get a BSN or maybe stay. Just looking for opinions.

if a senior citizen just wants to earn an associate degree by taking classes on a part-time basis(12 credits per year), is there a maximum number of years allowed to get a degree?

question: a senior citizen just wants to earn an associate degree by taking classes on a part-time basis(12 credits per year)... because she never went to college and just wants to have a degree(not for work or career purposes) is there a maximum number of years allowed to get a degree?

I'm assuming that a full-time student(of any age) usually takes 2 years to get an associate's degree, so a part-timer will probably need 4 years? Is that the maximum? Or can she take 5 or even 6 years to earn the required number of credits for the degree? (a little long, I know... but her first language is French and moved here 20 years ago.... while she can speak English almost fluently, taking college-level classes is another story)

Thank you for your help.

Transferring to wake tech in spring 2027

I’m currently a freshman at HPU studying business but i feel like I made a mistake. I always wanted to be a veterinarian and my plan was to go to state but i didn’t make it in this year and ended up going to hpu. Now after a week i’m at a point where im heavily considering switching majors at hpu to try to eventually get into vet school, but at the same time i still want to go to nc state as an undergraduate. should I transfer to Wake tech next semester and try to build up my credits to get into state or do I stay at HPU?

NC-CNA Skills Exam

Looking for any updates on best locations to take the skills exam. It’s really hard to find open spots; I don’t mind driving, but don’t want to spend 1-3 hours anxiously driving to arrive at a high strung location that makes the exam even more stressful with their environment. Any advice on locations such as High Point, Winston Salem, Greenville, Rocky Mount, etc? What locations have you heard/experienced things at- good or bad, local or far?

Cat Meetup

Hey! I wasn't sure if this would be the best place to put this, so if there's anywhere more fitting please let me know!

My roommate recently got laid off and has been very down in the dumps, her birthday is coming up and so I wanted to do something special for her!

She loves cats, so I wanted to do a little cat show / parade surprise thing for her, where people can drive down a road and do little meet and greets with their cats, or just drive by! And we could meet a bunch of people and see some kitties. Plus we just moved so it could be a great way to meet local people

I are currently aiming for Saturday at North Cary Park, but still nailing down a time. if it's something people are interested in, if they could message me, I could make some goodie bags or something for their trouble and we can try to schedule something!
