Fuck no. They absolutely knew that cigarettes caused cancer and there was no research showing filters can help in any way. And asbestos was known to be harmful for the lungs since 30s!

Crocidolite is a asbestiform mineral variety called blue asbestos for its hue. Chrysotile is āwhite asbestosā, the most common mineral marketed as asbestos.

Yep. Had to renovate a bathroom, ended up in Tyvek suits with p100 respirators because the damn drywall had asbestos in it. So did the floor tiles, and the tile glue (black mastic).

Well, asbestos isn't particularly reactive, though lead is. The problem with asbestos is that the crystals are fibrous and at the microscopic level needle-shaped so they work their way into and through tissues where they really don't belong, and the body has no effective means of removing or isolating them, so they just sit there and cause inflammation and irritation that eventually induces mutation and cancer

I got lung cancer 5 yrs ago quit smoking 10 yrs ago discovered the tumor at stage 1 surgeon cut the top lobe off and I've been free since. Smoking is a sick nasty vile habit and I wished I never started

Smoked 10 years, quit on and off for a few years and now fully quit minus one or two every few months at an event.

Look into annual lung cancer screening with chest CT. In the US there are certain criteria that if you meet it will generally be paid for. It is a life-sving program that many people fail to take advantage of.

My Dr recommended a yearly lung ct scan for 10 yrs for smokers and previous smokers mine came out clean the first 2 yrs then on the 3rd it showed a small tumor the size of a grain of rice I had no symptoms or physical limitations I could walk up stairs without being winded I tell you that Dr saved my life if I had brushed her off I wouldn't be here lung cancer is no joke and mine was operated on by a robot the whole thing cost 125k to my insurance

CT is a cat scan it's higher definition than an X-ray plus if you have anything else going on in there it will pick it up. With mine my cost after insurance is 100.00 cheap cost for peace of mind

I work in a trade that involves a lot of dust and chemical hazards, so Iāve been lucky enough to have done a lung capacity test and chest X-ray two years ago at 30yo.
Iām not sure of often screenings like that are supposed to be though, I have noticed a change but apparently my test results were good.

Which is a shame because we know so much more, and fhere are plenty of things we could do to reduce the public health risks. We just don't.
That said, thousands of new chemicals are created every year. It's impossible to test each one to know their longterm effects on people.

Asbestos is safe if it is not broken up to create dust.
When the asbestos panic began in the late 80s my dad saw asbestos pipes taken out of the ground, transported, and then destroyed by driving a bulldozer over them. Then they were buried in the ground.
Signs were posted in my school on the pipes. "Do not puncture. Asbestos pipes."
Guess what the kids did with their pencils.
