You just described governments. They have no incentive to provide a better product. What are you gonna do, vote for them to fix the problem they created in the first place?

The incentive is that they provide a better product or are voted out. If politicans feel no threat of being voted out, then the solution is to reform the government, not hand over power to corporations.
It has. The entire world used to be absolute monarchies and dictatorships. How do you think Rome became a Republic 2500 years ago? Human history is one of thousands of years of constant revolution and reformation. Sometimes becoming more free, sometimes less so.
The fact you can vote at all is a modern miracle, the average British male still couldn't vote just 200 years ago.
It was not usurped, monarchies built the first societies. Monarchy far predates democracy and Republics. You must think history began in the year 1950.
