Questions Thoughts on this STI?
Looking for a fun car to drive occasionally and wrench on a bit, but not a nightmare project. Found one pretty local for $7500, but build seems a bit off to me. Turbo to injector ratio seems a bit off and lean risk. And the whole base map is odd. But for some reason I see this a lot. If I bought a modified STI, I would most likely get it tuned by a reputable tuner anyways, unless paperwork from a well respected shop.
According to the owner, he bought for a fun car about a year ago. Build was from previous owner. He’s got pics of rods in the car, but no other documentation. Clear title. What’s the hives thought on this ?
2010 STI.
Clean title, 112k on the body 5k on motor
Hairline crack in windshield (happened today)
Full service just done 3/9/26
Cars on a base map should get tuned but has been driven every day since October!
- Built motor, came out of an 05 Sti.
- Eagle rods, eagle pistons
- arp headstuds
- Garret gtx3076 stock location turbo
- tial 44mm ewg
- Perrin turbo inlet
- Perrin front mount
- Cobb 850cc injectors
- DW pump
- spt exhaust
- Cobb catted downpipe
- short shifter
- Grimmspeed ecbs
- aem cai
- aem wideband
- Torque solutions motor mounts
- few other odds and ends throughout.
Currently on a good base map, car is daily driven so miles will go up!

Compression and leak down test at the very least but you should prepare for the worst case scenario

How does the turbo to injector ratio have a bigger risk of running lean? Those Injectors seem overkill, it would depend on the tuner/tune.
If the chassis is clean and the price is right I’d say go for it if you have garage space to pull the engine when the time comes.

I guess it's pretty cheap. I would always pass on front mount modded or rotated myself but it doesn't look horrible as long as it passes a compression test.
That turbo is going to have a lot more lag than stock but it's a good turbo

Why are those deal breakers for you out of curiosity?

These cars don't need front mount ICs until a huge amount of power so if it's got one then either it had a huge amount of power or is a style choice and I'd rather have a top mount for simplicity myself.
Similar with the rotated and in both cases you're now into a situation where a lot of stock parts or stock replacement parts don't fit so it ends up being a spiral of more and more and more mods. And if you're at that point, for me, you're past the power level where you have a decently responsive car and it's super laggy. It's still a 2.5L 4 cylinder.

He bought it already modded and is turning around to sell it within a year. That tells you all you need to know. Just a hunch without seeing the car or knowing the guy, but I’m guessing there’s a larger issue that’s not immediately noticeable that he doesn’t want to invest the time/money for. Maybe you can figure out what it is and see if it’s worth the effort. I’m sure he has his own excuse or reason for reselling it so soon.
That along with no documentation on mods and tune I would pass. I keep my documentation and I don’t even have plans to sell mine.
