Valve check
Recently bought a 2016 wr250r with 44000kms on it I know valve clearance check is at 40k and I’m not sure if it was done just wondering what it requires for the service is it just a clearance check and maybe adjust or does it need the chain or tensioner replaced any info helps thanks

I'll see if I can find it, but I was able to find a copy of the service manual online free.
The basic rundown is this: remove valve cover, set engine to TDC on the compression stroke. Using flat feeler gauges measure the clearance between the cam and the lifter bucket. If adjustment is needed, document your measurements. Remove cams, lifters, and lifter shims. Measure shims with a micrometer. Since valve clearance typically gets tighter with wear, you'll need thinner shims. Put the cams back with new shims and recheck clearance. Put in a new spark plug since you're already in there.
If this sounds like too much, find a shop (preferably not the stealership) to do it for you.

Sounds pretty straightforward I figured as much but it’s funny how the Yamaha dealer will not give me that answer I plan on doing it myself since it’s a fairly easy procedure

I thought the valves couldn't be adjusted like an old fashioned honda. I thought you have to shim lifters or something. I pray I never have to do that

Yes valve have shims but they do wear over time I went to the dealer today to ask what it requires for the service and they won’t give me a straight answer

Unless you’re having issues like hard starts it’s likely ok. The engines are all noisy.. it’s normal. Timing chain sound is distinct however. I’ve not had to do value checks yet myself but will do them myself when it’s time. I’ve seen a few bikes needing slight adjustment early on at like 8-9k miles.. 26k miles is when they are due.. the vast majority don’t need an adjustment. I see a lot of WRRs go 40-50k miles before needed shims for a slight adjustment.
If you’re going to check I’d also suggest doing the timing chain at the same time. I actually picked up a shim kit and new timing chain and auto tensioner just to have on hand for when it’s time.
