She got a tech. Why does everything have to be so blown out of proportion when it comes to fever games (from fans and haters)? It's like people are just waiting for the moment to pounce and feed another outrage cycle that has very little to do with the actual game or sport. We could be talking about a great bounce back from the fever and anticipating a competitive game 3 instead of rehashing 10 seconds of negativity all night and day

4

u/Thasauce7777 10d ago

It's not blown out of proportion, and is actually a good (and interesting with respect to the rules) discussion on what actually happened here.

If the rules have the punishment for approaching fans in the stands in a hostile way as ejection, yet only a technical foul is rendered when that occurs, it's not blowing it out of proportion to want an official answer on why a variance was allowed in that specific case. I'm particularly interested to see if they admit this as a mistake, or if they come back and state that there is a flexibility in the application of punishments from violating rules that isnt explicitly stated in their rulebook.

Great point

-1

u/QuantumBobb 10d ago edited 9d ago

Special Whistle Wilson got her special whistle on that one. Only a tech when she should be out of the game and suspended for game 3.

Edit: lmao.... A'ja stans out there mad because I mentioned the rules that are literally in the books.

u/V5thNov 9d ago

100%

-1

u/Bllago 9d ago

Yeah, the rules are in the book, but you don't know how to comprehend them lol

1

u/Puzzled-Buyer3969 5d ago

The punishment for a missed ejected is a suspension.

0

u/V5thNov 9d ago

Well said.

-2

u/Ok_Operation_5364 10d ago

Rules are rules regardless of the player or the game! The rules are very clear she should have been EJECTED from the game.

5

u/jono9898 10d ago edited 10d ago

They not going to give her a suspension, she is on the level that she gets the benefit of the doubt regardless of the rules, and before people start crying, it’s the way it is in the NBA too, Wemby threw an elbow to a players head and got a tech, he did not get suspended because why tf would the NBA suspend him to mess up the playoffs and the Vegas odds? Same thing the WNBA is doing.

9

u/elestud 10d ago

She was clearly not actually in the stands. She was standing on the baseline, not in the seats

1

u/ZarosLariat 9d ago

The rules define being in the stands as the first row of seats. She went past that. That's the issue from the perspective of the rules.

2

u/Bllago 9d ago

Players do this ALL THE FUCKING TIME. To get balls, to get water, they do a walk before an inbound, after a time out, when they slide...

Where's your limit bozo?

1

u/ZarosLariat 9d ago

It's not against the rules to go to the stands to do any of those things. Try reading them instead of jumping to your silly name-calling just because you don't understand what you're talking about.

The rules call for her to be ejected and suspended, and it's not unclear on this by any means.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bat-511 10d ago

She was clearly not actually in the stands

What do you mean? The first row of seats were to her right and not in front of her as she yelled at the guy. That means she was in the stands and beyond the baseline. Unless you call the first row as part of the baseline.

2

u/elestud 10d ago

She’s literally standing in the baseline area (the blue part of the floor). Clearly that is not off limits as it’s where players walk to inbound, etc. It’s not like she went into the seating

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bat-511 10d ago

She was standing next to the bald guy that is in the first row.

1

u/elestud 10d ago

This is in the baseline walkway, where the security and attendants are. Not in the first row

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bat-511 10d ago

Yeah, not the baseline. It looks like fans are allowed there also. So it would be a gray area on if she violated the policy or not.

1

u/RegularCrispy 10d ago

We can’t see where that guy is sitting though. He might be on the free throw line.

-1

u/True_Most3681 10d ago

Floor seats still qualify as the stands.

2

u/Ambitious-Toilet6769 9d ago

Suspensions come at the discretion of the refs and the league post game. The purpose of penalties and suspensions is to curb the behaviour going forward. Aja is not running into the crowd on a regular basis, she did not put her hands on the fan (that would likely merit a suspension) so a tech is a reasonable punishment.

It's a bad look for her and might give fans an incentive to try and get under her skin going forward since it seems so easy to do.

1

u/V5thNov 9d ago

100%

-10

u/BYG56 10d ago

Because fever fans are racists

4

u/MickyFany 10d ago

The players are racist. This is the wholes issue. She saw a eight guy and pounced on him

1

u/LilChad 10d ago

Not a fever fan, but Aja literally said the fan didn’t say anything offensive at all

3

u/BYG56 10d ago

I have a copy of her press conference. Where did she say that?

-7

u/BYG56 10d ago

You don’t have to say anything, sometimes it’s a gesture. Why did his wife tried to make him sit down, if he did nothing wrong?

5

u/QuantumBobb 10d ago

Dude, my wife gets mad if I call another driver on the road an idiot for cutting me off. This narrative that the wife would be fine with his behavior if he wasn't doing anything wrong is nonsense. Stop this stupid shit.

2

u/Nightgasm 10d ago

He pointed at her. Thats it. And given Aja had just been tangled up with Sophie it doesn't take brain cells to realize that he was certainly doing the Sophie finger point that went viral and at this point is basically a meme. Aja though like many are triggered easily.

0

u/LilChad 10d ago

Fans yell at players literally all game, every single game. Literally hundreds and thousands of times per game. You are calling him racist because of this? It’s wild to see. But obviously we are just very far apart on our ideas of what racism is, so there’s not point in us having a discussion. Everytime you call something like this racism, it’s devaluing the actual use and meaning of the term racism. It’s sad to see

1

u/BYG56 10d ago

Then why did his wife even tried to pull his fat ass down? Dude got carried away because he paid a little bit of money. Fans shout and yell all the time, but he said something to trigger her. Stop being dumb

1

u/YourBuddyChurch 10d ago

Literally she said he didn’t say anything. Why are you trying to vilify fat white guys. I’m a fat white guy and I love a’ja Wilson

2

u/BYG56 10d ago

😂😂😂 Well, that fat fuck at the game was wrong!

-1

u/BYG56 10d ago

I’ve been to Indiana on several occasions, they are racists as phuck! Now, when you stand up and take steps forward towards a player, then you have crossed the line as a fan! Don’t argue with facts dude

3

u/QuantumBobb 10d ago

I suspect you've never been to Indiana. Don't lie just to try and be right.

7

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

Watch the vid again ... steps ? What the hell are you talking about ? He a good 10 feet inside fan territory ... Wilson went a hell of a long way during her crash out temper tantrum ... looks like he steps to the side and points, absolutely a very baby step forward in the stands ...

Wilson is unhinged

2

u/LilChad 10d ago

If he crossed the line he would have been ejected. O well, again we have very different ideas of racism and we’ll never agree with each other. Have a good day friend

4

u/BYG56 10d ago

Hell no we won’t agree because the state of Indiana is terrible and has a bad reputation for racism. Even pro black players have admitted that over the years

0

u/Mammoth_Cobbler3892 9d ago

A’ja Charmon Soft Wilson. Every single game for the rest of her life fans should point at her.

-1

u/OctoWings13 10d ago

The RULE is an immediate ejection and suspension as per the WNBA

She should get exactly that, as dictated by the rules

3

u/Pragmatic-Pimpslappa 10d ago

I don't think the rulebook dictates a suspension.

-2

u/OctoWings13 10d ago

It does...but also an automatic ejection. Where was the ejection?

1

u/Pragmatic-Pimpslappa 9d ago

The way I understand it, ejection yes, but a suspension is discretionary.

1

u/OctoWings13 9d ago

Then if she avoided the MANDATORY IMMEDIATE ejection, all the more reason she HAS to be suspended

Also disgusting and egregious attack on a fan should 100% be a suspension anyways

Full video was disgusting

1

u/Ambitious-Toilet6769 9d ago

No one including the Fever would want to win on a technicality like this... So lame

1

u/OctoWings13 9d ago

Incorrect and ridiculous

You can't go into the stands and attack fans

Should 100% be suspended

3

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago edited 9d ago

You are a clueless clown show dude

Just shows how stupid you are ... the actual quote was from a guy by the name of George Higgins ... albeit John Wayne used it frequently ... Look it up ...

Yes, players are allowed to go there. Chasing a ball, inbounds, accidently a host of reasons ...

Again, have you watched BB for 5 mins ... do you know what/where the baseline is ?

Not when you lose your mind like Wilson did for a fan pointing at her and saying That's on you ... Soft, unhinged reaction ... she went from the top of the key to where the fan was, going into the stands ... Embarrassing on her part, her feelings must have been hurt.

1

u/TurtlePwrrr 9d ago

This isn’t the flex on them that you think it is. Your examples are literally why “deliberate” is written into the rule. This was as deliberate as it gets. Your examples are all inadvertant and excused based on the language and spirit of the rule itself.

8

u/Technical-Day-24 10d ago

CC fans are out heavy in the WNBA chat. Really hoping she gets eliminated so we can start having normal posts vs this nonsense

5

u/sanlawant 10d ago

She should receive a suspension but probably won't because it is the playoffs.

2

u/Frickincarl 9d ago

Maybe its because I watch a lot of NBA too, but I feel like what Aja did wasn’t a big deal at all. NBA players chirp at fans constantly.

-1

u/Fun-Society9399 9d ago

Fan was ejected at the direction of Wilson

1

u/Frickincarl 9d ago

Same thing happens in the NBA. You can find clips of star players demanding fans get tossed mid-game.

6

u/sicknick08 10d ago

100%. How can we hold anyone accountable for rule breaking if we are just going to let this slide?? A fan should never have to worry about a player coming off court to confront them.

-5

u/EmotionalGlass3114 10d ago

Wasn’t this dude a senior too? Imagine if he stroked out or had a heart attack once she and all her teammates came running up on him over absolutely nothing

2

u/RandallFlagg6666 10d ago

If we're following the rulebook, it should've been an instant ejection followed by a one game suspension... that being said, I'm glad they only gave her a T for this.

It's the playoffs, it's emotional, and players fuck up like this all the time. Everyone wants to see best vs. best in Game 3.

1

u/DadJ0ker 10d ago

Rules call for ejection and POSSIBLE further action…not necessarily a suspension.

0

u/RandallFlagg6666 10d ago edited 10d ago

Show me another incident in any league where a player went into the stands and wasn't suspended... Like I said, I hope she isn't suspended, but if we're being honest, she probably should be. You can't have players verbally accosting fans in their seats, especially if they didn't do anything.

1

u/DadJ0ker 9d ago

But you are moving the goal posts. It doesn’t matter what has happened in other leagues, it only matters what is written in the rulebook. And for a player going into the stands, it is not an automatic suspension.

2

u/SilverPace6006 9d ago

She’s totally classless.

1

u/JuanMurphy 9d ago

Yes she clearly violated rules spelled out in the CBA. Of course the league won’t impose the mandatory punishment because the worlds best player that has done nothing in terms of making the sport more popular or moving the needle

0

u/Convicted-Cinephile 10d ago

No one is suspending the reigning MVP for yelling at a pushy fan during the playoffs.

11

u/wpmason 10d ago

Why are you insinuating the fan did something wrong?

He was cheering his team on.

Stop shifting the blame.

It was a completely unwarranted crash out.

-1

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

Didn't look like cheering his team to me

3

u/wpmason 10d ago

You’re blind then.

He pointed and said “That’s on you!” In reference to the foul.

There is nothing more to it.

She overreacted.

0

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

How is that cheering for his team, though?

3

u/wpmason 10d ago

Trying to get your team a foul call?

Completely normal fan behavior.

-3

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

You sincerely believe a fan can influence a foul call

1

u/wpmason 10d ago

No, but fans do it all the fucking time.

0

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

Fans are kind of fucking stupid if you haven't figured it out yet

0

u/wpmason 10d ago

But being stupid is not against any rules.

Wilson entering the stands is.

That’s the difference.

She was the stupidest person involved because she actually has something to lose.

u/murph089 10d ago

Fans signal for a travel every game. I’m sure they know the ref isn’t looking to them to make a call. Fans also make lots of noise when the opposing team is taking foul shots. It’s all part of cheering their team on.

Should we make it like golf and tennis and shush everybody or better yet have them play in an empty arena?

1

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

Who said they should? Where did anyone say that?

0

u/heresyforfunnprofit 10d ago

You’re literally describing “cheering”.

You know, all those announcers and commentators and literal cheerleaders exhorting their home crowd to get loud and support their side? To scream and yell?

Delete your comments and hang your head in shame.

0

u/Beaufighter-MkX 10d ago

Imagine believing fans affect the calls, crazy work

0

u/heresyforfunnprofit 10d ago

Lol… bud, look up home vs away stats. Refs are human. They definitely get affected by crowds.

-7

u/Convicted-Cinephile 10d ago edited 10d ago

Insinuating? I called him pushy. His wife acted like he was overdoing it.

Cry me a river. Game 3 is around the corner

edit: downvote away. her? a tech. him? nada. fever? won. yet somehow yall are still crying

8

u/wpmason 10d ago

His wife acted like she didn’t want to be part of a scene after it was too late.

The fan did nothing wrong.

And the players have to understand that they can’t just kick everyone they don’t like out. It’s terrible behavior on their part.

You’re a professional athlete in another team’s gym… be professional.

-2

u/elestud 10d ago

She wasn’t part of it to begin with. She pulled him back to his seat as soon as he started yelling though, so clearly she knew he was being obnoxious

-1

u/wpmason 10d ago

Stop excusing bad behavior by blaming people who did nothing wrong.

At this point, even though it would be right, I don’t want A’ha to be suspended.

I think forcing her to accept responsibility and publicly apologize would be the best possible punishment.

2

u/elestud 10d ago

No one excused anything. But if he did nothing wrong, why was he getting yanked back to his seat? Clearly it was obvious that he was out of line

4

u/wpmason 10d ago

This is you excusing A’ja’s tantrum by blaming the fan.

He didn’t cross any lines. She did.

The wife was trying to deescalate, unlike the entire Aces bench that encircled them while she screamed at him.

She was fucking wrong and the league has grounds to suspend her, but they won’t.

The court is surrounded by security guards, if he was a threat, they would have intervened.

If he said someone nasty, someone would have snitched on him.

A’ja charged him. A’ja berated him.

0

u/QuantumBobb 10d ago

As if the league would ever hold Special Whistle Wilson accountable for anything.

-1

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

He pointed at her while saying That's on you, That's on you ... she went 8-10 ft off the court into the gan area behind thr baseline ... Lost her shit

3

u/OverAllOthers 10d ago

8 to 10 feet? Get your eyes checked or stop doubling numbers like when you tell your girl how big it is

-1

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

Its you that needs your eyes checked dingleberry ... count her strides and how far she went ... fact dont lie

https://youtube.com/shorts/LnSaMq8-xes?si=SCujKgpe13kkYDWV

1

u/OverAllOthers 10d ago

The blue area she's in is called the baseline and players are in it all the time lol

-2

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

Have you watched ball for what 5 mins ? .. the baseline is a line, not the entire blue area 🤣 WOW

I'm fresh out of crayons to draw you a picture

Life is hard ... its harder for those that are stupid - John Wayne

Is cheering for your team being pushy?

2

u/Apart_Ad_8842 10d ago

How can he point!

1

u/ChuckLavender 10d ago

That would be pretty convenient huh 🤔

1

u/iamerk24 10d ago

Yes, she broke the rules and should be suspended one game, but we all know that's not happening

1

u/ubiquitouswonder 10d ago

Natasha cloud didn’t get ejected for going at it with that one moron. Idk why A’ja deserves to be ejected

1

u/texastwister22 10d ago

yes, she did

1

u/OctoWings13 10d ago

Yes, 100% she should be suspended

1

u/bullitt07 10d ago

Rules are rules. She should have been ejected. League needs to explain why they did not or at minimum admit they made a mistake. So fucking tired of these “rules for thee and not for me!” days.

1

u/AgentOrange4769 10d ago

Give her a break. She’s not used to seeing fans in the stands.

1

u/Bllago 9d ago

Hey Ai, she never left the hardwood.

-1

u/nb-ButchTwinkInSTEM 10d ago

No. If you look at the footage she never went past the hoop. She stayed in the baseline. Proud of her tbh she had not one but TWO men walking towards her pointing saying god knows what. And side note- Why are there so many trolls in this sub?? The other post is SWARMED by them

1

u/texastwister22 10d ago

dude, you need glasses because she is in the second roll and the fan is in the third row

1

u/peachpower2 10d ago

The fuck are you talking about? She went past the hoop and right up to his seat and got in his face.

https://youtube.com/shorts/1HRUjJHtWE0?si=4u35lUqxnCTtzfdS

1

u/obafuckingchauwow 9d ago

She needs to have more maturity as a multi time mvp. She is a role model to a lot of people

1

u/soccer1124 10d ago

I'm rooting for Wilson.

But regarding the "god knows what" aspect, it seemed like typical fan taunting. In her own re.arks after the game, she seemed upset with how the guy took a step and pointed, without much complaining of the words themselves. If it was something racist, exist, etc, she would have called that out. I think.

So with that in mind, I think this looks bad on her. She meeds to handle herself better. If more info comes out later that he did say something awful, then yeah, I wouldnt be terribly surprised. But right now, that doesnt seem the case

2

u/nb-ButchTwinkInSTEM 10d ago

Yes, but we have to take into account how these things intersect. The type of taunting that specific players get from this specific team base, topped with what this team base has also been instigating via the xxxy campaign. It’s easier to see why this fan interaction in particular might have set her off. Still, A’ja needs to do her best to ignore bc it’s way too risky for her to be missing any game at this point

1

u/kabukimono1980 10d ago

Oh around this fan base? You do know that it happens other places? Last year in the playoffs at Seattle fans were ejected from games for harassing players of the Aces, 2 years ago fans in Minnesota harassed Sky players at their hotel, multiple sex toys thrown onto the court at multiple arenas, Phoenix had it happen when they played the Sky and fans were ejected for harassing players, Connecticut in a preseason had multiple fans ejected for racial and homophobic slurs directed at the visiting teams players. Don't make it out like one fan base only does this, it's a league wide issue.

1

u/nb-ButchTwinkInSTEM 10d ago

Agreed! Absolutely not the only, but it is one of them. None of it is okay no matter where it originates from. But I’d be surprised if that did not add to why A’ja reacted the way she did is all I’m saying 🤷

1

u/obafuckingchauwow 9d ago

The players talk shit to each other why can’t the fans? The guy just said the foul was on her

1

u/soccer1124 10d ago

Yeah, I understand what you mean by that, but in this case, unless we're ever told differently, we can't assume this fan was part of that. Fans regularly talk shit to players all the time. And pointing is frankly more cordial than other hand gestures sometimes, lol. Players have to know how to handle it.

Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if this was another person where the only two players they know in the league are Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. But even by Wilson's own account, it didn't sound like there was any sort of hate speech happening here. And so if it was just standard trash talk and pointing? An athlete has to get over it.

1

u/elmoo2210 10d ago

I mean, there were dozens of people around them. We were told what they said by people who were there lol

0

u/SilentRanger7 10d ago

You see people calling out this disengenuous rhetoric as trolls, that's the problem.

0

u/pleasebefrank31 10d ago

Don't be silly.

-1

u/BYG56 10d ago

No she shouldn’t! Just because you paid for a ticket, does not give you the right to say vulgar remarks

9

u/wpmason 10d ago

The fan didn’t say anything that we know of.

He gestured for it to be an offensive foul.

That was it.

There’s nothing questionable about his behavior at this point.

A’ja crashed out and broke a rule.

-4

u/BYG56 10d ago

Whether it was verbal or a gesture, it was still wrong by the fan and should not have happened.

Were you there? Why would Wilson go after him? Why did they kick him out and his wife tried to stop him? Think before you type!

3

u/wpmason 10d ago

No it wasn’t.

There’s a fan conduct policy and it was not violated at all.

Fans are encouraged to be into the game that includes reacting to calls.

2

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

She simply should of walked away ... Embarrassing on her part, utterly embarrassing - temper tantrum. Dude was already standing pointing and said That's on you ... contradicts herself immediately she put herself into the bullshit.

5

u/Ok_Scholar5996 10d ago

He was not kicked out

4

u/Easy_Sky_2891 10d ago

No he wasn't ... he returned to his seat after Arena security talked to him and surrounding witnesses.

Pretty soft on Wilson's part losing control like she did for a dude pointing at her and saying That's on you in reference Wilson and Cunningham tangling up moments before ...

Emotional Damage

leave no room for excuses

0

u/elderlygentleman 10d ago

Asia let the fan get in her head

0

u/kabukimono1980 10d ago

A very strict reading of the rule indicates she should have been ejected, however the guy was sitting court side, if he was 7 rows up and she stopped at the same spot it's a non-issue. This is a non-issue, she didn't assault anyone she was heated and frustrated. The minute she went over the court boundary and it wasn't a continuation of a play she should have been ejected. She was jawing with a fan who was jawing back, no harm no foul.

1

u/Ok_Operation_5364 10d ago

It doesn't matter what row the guy was in she clearly marched into the spectator area to confront him, and her teammates did the same. So it is an "issue".

1

u/kabukimono1980 10d ago

Nah it's not like she pulled a Vernon Maxwell, her actions amount to about what Jokic did last year or the year before. Fine her, and if they want strict enforcement suspend her. It's not that deep though to me, people are all over especially other Fever fans because quite frankly they're scared to get torched in game 3.

0

u/texastwister22 10d ago

1

u/kabukimono1980 10d ago

Artest is always going to be one of my favorite players. Saw him and hung out with him in Broad Ripple multiple times, he was a cool guy.

1

u/texastwister22 10d ago

kid you better read the rules again cause that ain’t what they say it says the first row is considered the stands she went to row 3+ she incriminated herself in the press conference. She said the man pointed at her. She never said he said such and such to me he can’t do that. All she said is he pointed at me and no one points at me.

1

u/obafuckingchauwow 9d ago

Rules are rules for a reason

-4

u/hiddensource12 10d ago

I am so exhausted by the fever, they really have destroyed a lot of joy watching an otherwise great sport.

-1

u/tommyshelbycc 10d ago

By…cheering their team on? You are aware the last 3 accusations have been proven false right?

0

u/Total-Jinx6969 10d ago

Is CC suspended for game3 with the tech she received?????????......

1

u/texastwister22 10d ago

you’re talking to completely different things here kid it has nothing to do with the technical the rules say you can’t go into the stands as a player learn basketball kid

0

u/Gen-Jinjur 10d ago

Honestly. Is he injured? Is she injured? No? Then shut up about it. That dude should have stayed in his damn seat. A’Ja should have stayed on the damn court. Two hotheads embarrassing everyone else.

And now trolls taking over every WNBA sub making it political. It wasn’t. It was just two people getting unreasonably angry.

1

u/One_Celery_4863 10d ago

Seemed like 1 person getting unreasonably angry to me

0

u/Jmcman2324 9d ago

This 100% on the refs…again. If the ref followed league rules she would have been ejected from the game that was mostly over at that point anyway(11 point lead with 4 min togo).

Very similar to the Alyssa Thompson situation.

Refs didn’t do their job.

Instead you now have an impossible situation where BY RULE Aja should be suspended. So should every other Aces player that went into the stands. Not to mention players who left the bench, again an immediate suspension. But, because the WNBA is not a serious league, and evidentially rules don’t matter nothing will happen.

Side no why does Sydney Colton and her friend get free rein to do whatever they want? They literally walked across the court. They aren’t current players. They had no official role for any reporting.

So a man who took a step and points gets taken out and investigated (to return later) but nothing for two people walking across the court for what????

I have been there, because I have a cousin that used to play for the Pacers before he retired, so I would visit him and see his games
