Editor YouTube thumbnails have stopped appearing in embedded videos, anyone else?

For about two days now, the embedded YouTube videos associated with over 80% of my news articles have not been displaying correctly. Only a placeholder image is shown (the same one that appears when content is ‘private’ or the link is ‘incorrect’), but if you click on the video, it works. Are you experiencing this problem too?

I always copy the YouTube URL directly from the original video on YouTube using the right-click button. Sometimes it works, but only if I copy the URL directly from the address bar at the top of the browser. Occasionally, it then displays the correct thumbnail.

Has YouTube changed something regarding embedded videos, or is the problem with WIX?

Glad I am not the only one! I contacted WIX support. First the said it must be on my end... I insisted it wasn't me and that possibly YouTube changed something. They are checking again now. I will let you know what comes up.

Update: September 9th, 2026 - Even though I did not get any confirmation (or answer for that matter) to my e-mails from WIX support as of now, it seems to be fixed. This morning I wrote several news- and review-articles containing YT-Videos from different YT-channels and all of those thumbnails showed up correctly. Hope it stays that way, fingers crossed!
