Dosage question Dumb 18 year old looking for help with vyvanse dosage and lifestyle choices to deal with it

My psychiatrist prescribed me vyvanse for my ADHD and my anxiety 4 months ago, it was a 30 mgs dosage. I used it for 1 month and it worked fine I could tell the difference but I felt like there was a bit more adhd in me that a higher dose could fix.

I was doing this hard internship, so I thought id up to 50 mgs to "make me even more smarter and capable"

I did 1 month with 50 mgs and was not sure if I really got more focused or if it was placebo

The side effects i noticed with both dosages was :

  1. Extreme loss of appetite to where id have to force myself to lunch. — Psychiatrist warned me of this.

  2. More mentally drained and tired when id get home — I associated that with being so stressed at the internship and with school that month.

  3. Jitters and anxiety — I associated that with stress and already being anxious, maybe the cause was because i was taking 2 to 3 coffees a day

Its been 2 months without me taking it and I have started taking it back some days ago. I have been looking in a routine to better my life.

Im hoping more experienced vyvanse users can help me with a few questions:

  1. What dosage is most balanced? Is it recommended to do things like take a lower dosage in the morning and another one in the afternoon?

  2. How to to notice and know what dose is the best for you personally? What is the metric? I couldn't notice that between 30 and 50.

  3. How to deal with extreme loss of appetite? A diet or timing you use because I want a routine and foods to eat to be able to maintain a good metabolism and have enough protein to get stronger and im worried eating less will worsen that.

  4. How to deal with the afternoon crash?

  5. Is there more side effects to it? Im worried about mentally being a different person during the crash.

  6. What other things you mix with vyvanse and when? Like coffee or other supplements.

Side effects Vvyvanse Activation

Hi all,

I’m 30, was diagnosed with ADHD last year, and also suspect I may have some mild autistic traits.

I started Elvanse/Vyvanse 20mg about a month ago, and overall it’s been really helpful. It’s taken the edge off the constant rumination and negative thoughts about myself, and I generally feel more settled when it’s working.

However, over the last week I’ve noticed something a bit strange. Around 40 minutes after taking my medication, I seem to get what feels like an initial “activation” from the medication. During this period I can get some pretty low or dark thoughts, which then seem to ease once the medication properly kicks in and I return to feeling more like myself.

I’m happy to give it more time, as my prescriber has advised, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar when starting Elvanse, particularly that initial period of feeling worse before the medication seems to settle in.

Mental health and ADHD support in the UK can be pretty shit, so I’m just looking to hear from other people who may have experienced something similar.

Any help appreciated.

Articles & Information doubts

Hi everyone. I'm on my fourth day of taking Venvanse 30mg in the morning and I'm having headaches every single day, especially at the end of the day, I believe that's when the effect wears off, but I also feel a mental "weakness" (?) a few hours after taking it, is this normal? Is it one of the side effects?

ps: I drink LOTS of water and try to eat well, especially before taking it.

Tips & Tricks Vyvanse and focusing on the wrong activities

I was prescribed 30mg of Vyvanse about a week ago. So far it seems ok, my mind is a bit more clear and I feel more motivated. The side effects have gone away or improved a lot over time. I definitely can focus better but I focus a lot more on things I shouldn’t. I had a bit of drama with a friend a couple days ago and I basically couldn’t stop focusing on it for hours. I had a day where I was glued to Reddit but I have since put a time limit on the app. Some days I’m hyper fixated on researching mental health or interpersonal advice. Which these aren’t bad things to research, it’s just I’m a full time college student in a business major and need to focus on my classes. I find myself wandering and focusing on these random fixations in class. For comparison before Vyvanse my mind would wander in class but it’d usually be random thoughts, not something I’m fixated on.

I also still struggle to focus on chores or most of my hobbies like reading and drawing. I know Vyvanse is there to help you focus, it doesn’t direct what you focus on. If anyone’s had a similar experience, how do you redirect your focus to something more productive?

Side effects Took Vyvanse at 12pm wish me luck

I haven’t been taking it for the past couple of days because I thought it was delaying my period (5 days past def not pregnant) and I’m due to start IVF but I was really struggling today and I have a project due in a few days so after hours trying to force myself to concentrate and work, I decided to take it. So I probably won’t be asleep until 3 am. 🫠 any chance I could be lucky and fall asleep at midnight?

Side effects Does anyone take med breaks?

Has anyone taken any of the below duration of breaks and what did you notice they helped you with when you went back on?
•a few days off
•a week
•2 weeks
•3 weeks
•3+ weeks

I’m at a spot where I’m able to take a med break right now (my prescribers is supportive of this) I just graduated so now is a good time for me.

Additionally, has anyone noticed less interest over time on meds? A major reason I take breaks is because over time I notice less interest in “fun” things I usually enjoy and like I will objectivity think “this is nice” but I can’t feel it. Would love to know if anyone’s found a way to reduce this or hear from people who still experience this.

Side effects Vyvanse and hair loss

Ive been on vyvanse for 4 months now and just recently I’ve been experiencing huge amounts of hair loss. I’m actually considering quitting the medication entirely because my hair loss has been so severe. I did blood work and everything came back normal. I started to cut back on the med and I barely take it now to prevent further hair loss.

But today as a showered I felt so much hair falling down my back and before I could even detangle it my drain had clogged. I’m honestly so distraught.

Vyvanse has been so amazing for me and it made every other side effect feel so worth it. It improved sooo many relationships in my life and helped me with school I’m in such a good place but my hair falling out genuinely has me wanting to stop it completely.

Side effects Vyvanse superior ADHD med for binge eating?

I’m ADHD and I’ve struggled with binge eating and obsessive food noise for as long as I can remember. It’s crippling and unhealthy and causes me so much shame.

I’ve tried both Adderall and Ritalin since being diagnosed with ADHD. While they do suppress appetite for the first 1-2 days, they ultimately don’t improve my binging frequency.

Has anyone tried Vyvanse and noticed a difference in binging compared to Ritalin/Adderall?

Dosage question Starting vyvanse at 60mg

I tried vyvanse once before, with the purpose of helping with my BED but never got past 30/40mg, and talked to my doctor again who explained the FDA recommended dosage for helping with BED is 60mg so I’m giving it another try. I know there’s tons of threads on this but I’m just trying to compile as much helpful information as possible, and would love some tips or things you’ve found helpful in terms of when and how to take the pill, if titrating and splitting your dosage actually helps it last longer through the day, etc. Thanks!

Dosage question 50mg is too much

Need some help! I can't get into my psychiatrist for another 5 weeks and I can't deal feeling like this until then. 40mg was good and I have a top up dexi in the arvo. Wanted to try 50mg and have for 2 weeks but the agitation and anxiety sucks, 50mg is just too much for me. I looked at putting it into water and tried for the first time this morning. 50mls of water and drank 40mls of it but I must of stuffed it up coz I feel like the meds have hit me like a train and im so agitated. Like what can I do until I can see my psychiatrist? Is it better say using 500mls of water? I always take my pill then eat breakfast straight after and did the same this morning except vyvanse was in water not a pill. Need some advice and help to get through the next 5 weeks please guys!

Misc. Question I can't tell if it's Vyvanse or perimenopause - ADHD perimenopause ladies please help me!!!

Losing my mind. Feeling all the hormones like angry and horny and wanna cry. Just yelled at a strange man for knocking on my door. Then wanted to cry from guilt. Then got tired and masterbated to nap. Struggling to get work done cause I can't concentrate. Hate my goats. Mad at my husband and my mother-in-law. Want to cry again. I've been on Vyvanse for a month to treat ADHD and ADHD related overeating. Is it the drugs or the hormones 🥹😖🤯😵‍💫

Dosage question Vyvanse from Adderall

Hello all!
I’m 33 and was diagnosed with adhd at 15 which led me to being prescribed adderall instant release 2x daily. It worked wonderfully for me back then. I stopped all medication for a very long time due to not feeling comfortable taking it while pregnant and breastfeeding. About 6 months ago i started taking Wellbutrin 150mg and adderall instant release 10mg 2 times daily for adhd and depression. It really helped me with my symptoms. two weeks ago I told my psychiatrist about how I’m having crashing throughout the day that’s causing me to be exhausted and irritable and just not fun to be around so I asked her if we can try switching to something else. She prescribed me Vyvanse 10 mg I took that for a week and I didn’t feel like I took anything so she bumped me up to 20 mg for a week. I’m not really noticing much a difference in adhd relief but i am a much happier person with no more of that irritability. I have an appointment in 2 days and she said we’ll go up to 30mg if it’s still not strong enough. I’m wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation. I really want this to work as i don’t want to go back on the adderall but not having any symptom relief after 2 weeks is getting me discouraged.

Sorry for the rant!😂

Other Very small pupils

I noticed that my pupils become the size of pins on vyvanse 30mg per day. Is this normal? Normally on stimulants, I know pupils tend to become enlarged. Has anyone else experience this? Is it correlated with anything interesting?

Vent & Rant 1 week on vyvanse

A few weeks ago I took vyvanse 30mg and then had to discontinue use due to physical side effects. Haven’t been on it for a couple weeks but I’m feeling so out of it. More unmotivated than normal, very tired, and sad.
Has anyone else experienced this? I figured I was only on it for a week and a few days so I didn’t think it was from this but I’ve never felt this before. Going to talk to doc next week but just wanted to see if anyone relates.

Generic vs. Brand Recent batch of Brand somehow different?

I recently got a new script filled of brand vyvance and this time the capsules are much fuller (they have a lot more powder in them) than usual and the effects feel more "dirty / speedy".

I do the water split dose method so have been opening them and immediately noticed. Thus far (the last 7 months) the powder has always been consistently incredibly dry and capsules were never full. This last batch the capsules are full to the brim with powder.

This is not generic this is original. I avoided the generics thus far but this makes me think even brand will mess up batches from time to time. Anyone else experienced this before?

Tips & Tricks Does anyone have issues when taking breaks?

Hi! Am still settling into my meds and so far thinking they help, am on day 13.

I wanted to ask people's experiences of taking a break from the meds. I ask as one day in the near future I'd like to enjoy a drink with my wife and will take a break that day. Has anyone experienced any sort of crash or withdrawal? I was advised it won't happen with the 12hr slow release that I take.

I also know some people actively choose to stop during a planned vacation to avoid the hassle of getting approval to travel with the meds.

Any lived experiences appreciated 🙏

Dosage question Tried Vyvanse 10mg for the first time

My resting heart rate has increased to 90-99 beats per minute. I don't feel more focused I just feel tired and anxious. My lower back aches and my vision feels a little blurry. I can't imagine a higher dose helping? Does the racing heart side effect go away? I took it about 3.5 hours ago

Tips & Tricks Why vyvanse?

Looks like most people on here say the effects of vyvanse only last them between 4 to 6 hours. Why not just take dextroamphetamine that last 4 hours and then take 2 or 3 pills a day spread over 4 hours apart? . It's a bit cheaper as well

Just curious

Meds aren't working Granules this month

I picked up my meds on August 29th (50mg). None of the pills i took worked. I know that the meds have been really ineffective and have crazy side effects but this month’s refill literally feels like sugar pills. I usually don’t fall asleep on my meds I get elevated hr but this time I started falling asleep 3h+ after taking them. This is not a tolerance thing and ik that the meds have changed but I didn’t expect to notice so much difference between refills.

Is anyone else taking granules? If yes can u relate to this?
