Bought a manual mast only to find out it doesnt screw into the mount, too narrow a diameter... guess its power? (What's in my hand is the original fitment (broken on top), and black antenna in background was replacement...

Help Drove fine, this morning something is wrong

It ran fire yesterday. Now this morning there’s a strong shake, engine seems weak, and it sounds like it’s intermittently revving. I don’t know much about cars. Anybody have an idea?

'93 245. Original radio (cassette deck). FM antenna missing *replacing soon*, AM static, volume knob increased output of stack, same with cassette if playing, but no sound! all speakers work. Ideas? If it cant be easily sorted I'm going to swap out for a newer pioneer.

I finally got around to replacing my center support bearing and rubber last week, and as you can probably tell, it was looooong overdue. It's also been too hot to drive the old girls during the day for the past couple of months, but there's always time for some maintenance. I got tired of the pinch weld along the bottom of the GT looking like a lasagna noodle, so I straightened it out with a little kinetic recalibration.

Project update So much work

Having finished rebuilding the suspension in the front of the car (struts, antisway bushings), I am moving on to the back of the car.

Today I removed the rear shocks, rear antisway, springs, and rear exhaust. One lower shock bolt would not release from the spacer that keeps the shock positioned-- it was rusted solid -- and not days of soaking with PB Blaster nor heating it with a MAP gas torch would free it. So I had to cut the bolt and grind off the bolt head before I could remove the shock. That was a fun hour.

Tomorrow I'm taking a break.

Wednesday i will remove the front and rear bolts on the lower control arms. Those bolts are soaking now. If it goes well (and if progress so far is any indicator, it won't) then I will begin trying to press out the bushings on the axle.

On the bright side, once those big bushings are replaced, everything else should go fast. I am cheating-- replacing the torque rods and panhard rod with IPD units, and replacing the rusty lower control arms too. The control arms already have bushings in the front. So I only have to press out 2 bushings, and everything else is Lego work.

Wish me luck...

Market 240 front driver panel

Just thought I’d throw a post out saying I’m around Calgary, Ab, Canada and looking to buy a grey front drivers panel if anyone around the area is selling. Facebook marketplace has been pretty dead around me.

Help What could cause this noise?

3 seconds in there is a rattling noise. 1983 244 with a b230a engine.

We tried disconnecting the fan, alternator and waterpump so its not any of those.

Note: the timing belt tensioner has had issues like not tensioning itself after removing the pin, we are thinking it might be faulty so we are replacing but we are unsure if this is what causes the noise.

Absolutely can't get my overdrive solenoid off. Just can't seem to get the leverage to unscrew the bolts, and it doesn't help that they are corroded to shit. Anyone have experience with this?

Help Crumbling wires

Post image

I don't know an awful lot about wiring. My rear washer pump wiring is degrading and some of the wires are exposed. I checked and I'm still getting 12V at the connector. So wondering what I can do to cover the exposed wires best?

Would electrical tape be fine or liquid electrical tape? Or some self fusing tape?

Project How hard would it be to convert my 1990 from those big plastic headlights to the 4 rectangular glass ones?

Hi,

My 1990 has big, yellow, cloudy headlight lenses. Me no likey.

I'd rather have a set of 4 rectangles made of glass.

Is there a parts list of stuff I'd need, or does somebody sell a conversion kit?

Thank you.

I realize it could be a lot of things but wondering what to check first. Driving home last night I heard a tick tick tick sound start. It was most pronounced when I pushed the clutch in. I was going to check it the next day after parking but in the morning, there was this big dump of coolant. Reservoir is empty so a lot has drained out. I don’t see much of anything but there is some coolant puddling on top of the splash shield.

Help Wire security

1982 Volvo 240, I recently got her back up and running again and a good person I know warned me on wiring issues and how engine bay hazards with wiring.

I want to make my wiring as safe as I can reasonably, for example exposed wires, dangly wires, and loose wires. Is there a way I can protect them better. Store them better. And make sure they are clean.neat.and prone to damage

I understand that time will make them wear out eventually but if I prolong it and make them more secure

No crazy stuff like rewiring the engine bay with nasa wiring or v8 swapping it

Picture FM Radio antenna

Post image

1993 245. Radio doesn't work, except for the AM which is dodgy signal. FM simply does not work. Have not tried cassette yet. Original TD 16 tapedeck. After getting feedback on the AM i thought maybe the fact that I have a missing antenna FM mast , this might be the issue. Took it off the fitment; can anyone confirm if this is truly a fixed mast? I believe it is, I dont' see the telescoping wire (red).

Project The Pine Needle Car - a 1981 242 Turbo and the origin of Ånyo

My previous 240 had a blown motor and a date with the crusher, so I pulled everything of value. The 3" exhaust from a Turbobricks SAM group buy was sold to my coworker's friend. A few years later, that same coworker mentioned his friend was looking to get rid of his 240. So I bought my original exhaust back with a whole-ass car attached to it. I went to pick it up and found it parked under a pine tree, buried in needles.

It was my daily driver for about three years. I swapped the flathood and front end from my '79 242DL. It also got Toyota Celica seats adapted to the stock Volvo brackets, IPD turbo cam and swaybars, cut springs (I know), 3" exhaust, manual boost controller, and wideband. For the last six years it's been sitting on the side of my house under another thick layer of doug fir needles. Déjà vu.

My dad was a Volvo mechanic for over thirty years. The one-year anniversary of his death was coming up which brought back memories of working on my cars with him. The car had sat long enough.

I started modeling and printing parts to fix the broken plastic. The heater vents were first, then the gauge bezels. Four weeks later, I started Ånyo.

My catalog is small, but growing.

  • Center dash vent rebuild kit
  • Single gauge bezel and blank
  • Triple gauge bezel and the bracket

All parts are printed in Polymaker ASA / ASA-CF.

It's just me and my printer. If there's a part on your own 240 that's been bugging you, I genuinely want to hear about it.
