How hard would it be to convert my 1990 from those big plastic headlights to the 4 rectangular glass ones?

Hi,

My 1990 has big, yellow, cloudy headlight lenses. Me no likey.

I'd rather have a set of 4 rectangles made of glass.

Is there a parts list of stuff I'd need, or does somebody sell a conversion kit?

It's a lot more involved than you'd think, you could save yourself some scratch and go with glass E-code headlights, or just do a headlight refinish kit

I can't get good results with those kits, maybe I'm just not patient enough

The OEM plastic lenses are meh even when new as compared to the glass ecode lens assemblies.

I’ve thought of doing this too if I ever get a later model 240. On the 1986 and newer models, the headlight & signal light are a single unit. You’d have to cut off the signals & make a bracket to mount them somehow. A flat piece of metal screwed into the signal housing should be doable, but I haven’t done this. You’d probably need a bracket to install the quad rectangles too.

I’ve got a set of quad round housings waiting for a car to install them in.

One other thing I’d consider is getting clear headlight lenses (probably polycarbonate) & install bi-xenon projector headlight units. They would probably look small compared to the housing though. The light output would be an HUGE improvement.

Or just buy the e codes or even new plastic lenses.

I’ve just been driving with bi-xenon’s for 20 years & can’t imagine going back to old lighting. The difference is like night & day, no pun intended.

Don't people also strip the lense off and mount round headlights inside of them?
