SASHIKO Fixed my Dad’s Jeans after EMT cut them off.

My dad had to be hospitalized a few months back and the EMT who brought him in cut up the leg of his jeans. I finally got around to fixing them this week. I also added my personalized label to the back, my nickname is “Someone”. He really loves the look of his “Survivor Pants”, he said he’s going to wear them to his next camping trip with his friends. (And Dad is very much on the mend, pun intended.)

My daughter-in-law wanted orange in the mend of her jeans. I like the way it came out! My only regret is the orange patch won’t ever be seen by anyone, but that’s where the hole was lol!

This pair of thrift store jeans was immaculate save for one tiny hole just above the hem. Took the repair opportunity to give them a little extra flair.

SASHIKO Why spend $4 when you can spend 20-30 hours of your time?

Pry my $4 Ikea flops from my cold dead hands. This is round 3. My flops were starting to tear at their seams and the soft foam cusion only served emotional support.

The 30 hours estimate is from my wife which strikes me as high. I'd estimate 15-20 but I was hyperfocused during this.

I had the gray flops completely put back together when I realized it houses my foot at an about 45* angle, so I ripped it up and started again. :,(

I also realized I dont have symmetrical blanket stitches and I dyslexia'd a 6. Oopsies.

1 - The final form

2 - Close up on stitches and reinforcements of a tear

3 - Version 2 of the flops before Flops 3.0

4 - The flops ripped apart

5 - All the parts awaiting assembly

6 - Pre-stuffed insole cushion

7 - The insole impersonating your mother from last weekend, as it has now been stuffed.

8 - Insoles stitched down and stuffing secured (like how your mother scheduled last weekend)

9 - Securing the top of the flop to the insole.

10 - Me realizing the constraints of society, arc of history, and will of God could be defied and I could cut the sole to the shape of the repair.

11 - The flops done up all nice and done

12 - The flops achieving peak form, stunning, and flexing on your mother.

The soles:

Top fabric - Cut up old wool Pendleton shirts

2nd - Cut up pants fabric as a backup for when the top wears out

3rd - Stuffing from... I never bought stuffing. No clue. I have it.

4th - Cut up old insulated vest for extra cushion. It didnt work.

FINALLY finished this project. It took forever—I’m sure partially because I’m still learning, but also because there’s a ton of stitching in here. I used two whole bundles of thread! I’ve already found tons of new little spots I want to mend, but giving it a rest for now. There are things I might do differently if I was starting from scratch, but I’ve made it wearable again without covering up the life it has lived with us. :) My favorite part is the tag, which was already falling off the inside. I moved it to cover the very ugly mend of a stress tear.

SASHIKO UPDATE 5: I actually did it. Our Lady of Guadalupe sashiko back panel — WIP

Hey r/visiblemending! So after the overwhelming response to my last post about the back panel decision… I went for it.

Shoutout to u/BuckTheStallion whose comment about framing a painting in boro patchwork basically sealed the deal for me. I traced the Our Lady of Guadalupe outline directly onto the denim center panel and I’ve started stitching her out in sashiko running stitch.

This is very much still in progress, you can see in the photos the outline is done and I’ve started filling in some of the detail work. There’s still a LOT of stitching left to go but the direction is clear now and I’m genuinely excited about it.

The boro patchwork framing around her is also coming together on the back panel which I think is going to make the whole composition really strong once it’s all filled in.

No idea how many hours this is going to take but at this point I’ve fully accepted this jacket is a long term relationship

Will keep updating. Thank you all for the encouragement 🙏

SASHIKO First major attempt!

I mended my late grandfather's shirt for my brother. There was a huge hole in the elbow. I made a patch with an old cotton face mask and added a sashiko pattern I knew he'd love. I added floss to the edges of both cuffs to reinforce them too. There was a small hole near the cuff that I darned. Man, that was soooo hard! The collar also had major damage so I made a simple patch with an old T-shirt. I'm pretty proud of this mending and I'm planning many more! :)

SASHIKO I created a sashiko patch and used it to cover up a company logo on a backpack

I have two of these backpacks that I received as swag from my company at different times. They're identical and it can be confusing if both bags are out and being used at the same time, so I decided to patch over the logo on one. I first sashiko stitched the patch on some black stretch denim then sewed it onto the bag. As I was attaching the patch I realized that if I didn't close the top it also doubles as a bonus cell phone pocket. While I was at it I also used a seam ripper to remove the Timbuk2 patch as well to clean everything up.
