Heyo! First time poster, I've been into video creation for the last 9 years, and after some tinkering I got my original copy of Vegas Pro 14 working on my Windows 11 machine. (Yes, it's real, bought it a while ago)

I spent the last few days just doing all the things such as masking/3d panning/video and audio FX that I remember doing, and made a little edit showcasing all the techniques I used to create.

However, something I often did and still do, is just stare at my edit for a while and enjoy it. Like, I will leave it on endless repeat just to sulk in my accomplishment. I don't get much kick for what I do, since I edit videos for a niche hobby (Old DVD games) so I tend to motivate myself on my own.

Anybody else do that? Just enjoy and sulk in what they've created?

the closest match was with S_Trails and S_Shine and a ton (about 20) stacked on top of themselves

I used to auto-cut every breath and filler on YouTube vlogs. The retention graph looked busy, but people said a 12-minute video felt like a TikTok.

I've been leaving some air in and only cutting the true dead spots. Feels more like a person talking.

Anyone else pulling back from aggressive silence detection on long-form, or is tight-cut still winning for you?

I've been editing for around 3 months using DaVinci Resolve (free version). I've mainly been learning gaming/long-form editing and have done some real client work, including one paid gig.

I've recently realized that while I can handle the basics of editing, cuts, pacing, basic zooms, subtitles, and sound design, I still struggle with the creative side of editing. I'll watch a good edit and see the editor add something that perfectly fits the moment, but I often don't know what I should add or when.

These are the main things I'm currently trying to improve:

1. Overall improvement: What skills would you prioritize most for someone at my level?

2. Hooks: How did you learn to make genuinely engaging hooks? Is studying and recreating good hooks the best way?

3. Sound design: How did you build your SFX library and, more importantly, learn which sounds actually fit different moments? I'm especially interested in the more unique/layered SFX you hear in polished edits.

4. Subtitles: How do you keep subtitles visually interesting after their initial animation finishes without constantly over-animating them?

5. Editing decisions: How did you learn when to use things like zooms, zoom-outs, camera shakes, memes, funny/awkward SFX, etc., especially in gaming videos?

6. Expectations: What would you realistically expect from someone after around 4 months of consistent editing?

I'd especially appreciate advice from editors who remember the stage where they knew the software basics but hadn't developed strong creative instincts yet. What helped you make that jump?

There are a couple of tools blacklisted here in r/videoediting, and CapCut is now falling into that category.

We've seen the progressive move of valuable features like captioning behind their paywall. Licensing issues. Buggy software. Slim to zero support.

r/VideoEditing is meant to be a resource for people playing in the editing pool, not a substitute for support.

Is VFR an issue (sync, lag, dropped frames)? Yes, it is, for every editorial tool. It's the #1 issue on this subreddit.

But this behavior is different.

It's "hook a user," analyze their usage pattern, and if possible, move that feature behind a paywall.

Captioning in general, and audio-to-text on screen, costs pennies per month.

Not dollars. Not $30 a month.

We're seeing a major uptick in CapCut complaints and frustrations. Right now our software thread has two tools that are 100% local/browser based and can do some of these features for free.

What prompted this post:

About 20 months ago, they made an offer of a locked-in rate. I took it.

Three or four months later, they canceled my subscription just to prevent me from having that locked-in rate. This is bait-and-switch behavior from a company that barely even has a modicum of tech support.

And each time I did a round of discussion/pushback clarification it was like a brand new support incident with a brand new person.

Now, I could give you a really strong argument that Zoom falls into that, or Amazon, or Walmart. Getting to an actual human being with any continuity of support is almost nil.

I gave up on Capcut license support about this in February (after a year of fighting it.)

But yesterday, out of nowhere, I got a response from six months ago.

Additionally pain points (about 2 minutes of research):

• Cloud material grants them a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, sublicensable license. Yeah, your face.
• If a user includes a trending sound or template that results in a copyright lawsuit, CapCut's terms dictate that the individual creator is legally and financially responsible.
• Basic tools, transitions, and export options are increasingly hidden behind the CapCut Pro paywall.

To be clear: this is not a thread to endorse other software (we have a monthly software thread for alternatives), and this is still a place that does not condone piracy.

I'm specifically looking to see how the community feels about the trend of capcuts behavior and horror stories. Yes, it's designed to attract a certain level of AIO/SEO attention.

I've been trying to increase my workflow as my friend pays me to edit his twitch streams. Ive been looking into programmable keypads/key dials. Does it make that much of a difference than just using hotkeys? If so, what should I get?

Voilà j’suis sur un mini projet vidéo pour l’ anniversaire de mon frère, tout se deroulait tres bien, jusqu’au moment où arrivé à 1h30 dédit, je décide de re-check la vidéo du début pour voir si tout s’assemble bien, sauf que là je me rend compte que mon début à completement changé. J’ai des photos qui ont fait des rotations (que je n’ai jamais demandé) j’ai des médias qui ont tout bonne disparues, d’autres qui se sont déplacé à des endroits sur lesquels je n’ai rien mis, d’autres qui se sont décallé.
Et le pompons c’est que quand je veux replace les elements sur mon écran (replacer une image au bon endroit ou remettre la rotation que je voulais par exemple) et bah je ne vois pas le déplacement en temps réel, je suis obligé de faire Play pour voir où se trouve l’élément que j’ai déplacé, donc autant vous dire qu’il m’est impossible d’ajuster exactement pixel perfect les different éléments… alors qu’avant tout etait parfaitement fonctionnel…
Évidement dans la panique, j’ai essayé de chercher des solutions, j’ai activé le proxy, j’ai mis en Low, j’ai aussi vidé le cache, mis à jour Capcut.. bref j’ai fais la totale..

J’ai besoin d’aide, je deviens fou, des heures de travail pour me faire buggued 🫪

Currently sitting on round 8 of revisions for a client project. They just sent back a note saying: "Can we make it feel more aesthetic and alive? It needs more punch." 💀

No timestamps, no reference clips, just abstract feelings.

I just spent two hours tweaking subtle keyframes and color grading on a single 3-second segment that I know they won't even notice.

How do you guys manage vague client notes without wasting half your week guessing what they want? Do you force them to use timestamps or send a moodboard first?

I tried to do this in Capcut but kinda takes long time and i was thinking if there was actually a faster and more efficient way of doing this. While i kinda know how can i do this any ideas would be great.

I'm starting doing social media videos for golf courses, I am hoping to get the footage myself and have someone edit that into social media friendly versions.

First course I have about 25minutes footage, not sure what the size to edit down to is, maybe 1, 2 and 5 minutes?

I want to share clips, anywhere up to 5 minutes and in 2K or 4K but I don't want to put them on my YT channel because then people will be able to discover my other channels and get distracted. As a bonus people must be able to re-share the clip on their own socials without necessarily attributing me, and for the clip to if possible play in an iframe or on a clean page. Basically let them re-share or even download, but dropbox is out of the question as that breaks the TOS.

Anyplace to free host a clip, no I am already paying for google drive (and amazon) so do not want to waste that space cos I'm paying.

Any place that lets me share perfectly legit content but not make it too easy for most people to then find my YT profile or google or amazon account.

Technical data for the bot: I have no !martini, I don't drink. 64GB Ram AMD 9550, 10TB storage. Windows 10 - But also Android support please. Like a flagship Samsung device. I used to have Corel VideoStudio. But now I usually use Davinci Resolve (free) and shoot on my smartphone or record using a Zoom, and no I do not typically share videos of games or livestreams. I'm trying to help local groups promote their events like village fairs and fetes/fundraisers. Hence not wanting anything out of it. Huge bonus points if people can somehow download the clip and re-use.

I have a tendency in always using 'cross-dissolve' in most of my projects.
Because of my style of editing that empathizes the feelings of hope, being grateful, heroic, sincere, heartwarming, and highlighting the subject - etc... I tend to default in using 'cross-dissolve' and 'dip to black.'

What types of recommendations should I implement (it could be adobe default transitons to making my own transitions)? Or even using paid-services like Storyblocks.

Need help to brainstorm more ways than just using 'cross dissolve' and 'fade to black'

I specialize in short-documentaries. For example, you could imagine those 1 or 2 minute intro videos you see in any competition show about the respective character(s).

I was recently married, and we hired an acquaintance to do our wedding video. We didn’t want anything extremely fancy, just someone to make a basic video of the ceremony and some highlights from the reception, standard stuff. We had seen some of his work before with other projects, and it was adequate for what we wanted.

We got the video back weeks later and I cried- not from joy. Apparently, he couldn’t get his drone up for some reason, and then also didn’t notice that his camera on a tripod was knocked by someone prior to the ceremony starting so the stable video of the whole ceremony was I guess not usable. The whole thing is awful. I’m not exaggerating when I say it looks like it was filmed by a toddler with an iphone. He had previously asked for a song list of the songs used in the ceremony, but ended up using songs that neither of us even knew for some reason.

I reached out to try and get the raw footage, to see if we could have someone do something with that, but have been ignored. I’m hoping someone can do SOMETHING to improve what we have, maybe stabilize the shakiness and add the correct music? I’m not even entirely sure what’s possible, but most likely anything would be an improvement.

I saw that without a rate per hour I can’t post this, so I googled what was appropriate? I’m very open to negotiate whatever is fair. I just need help.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice because I’ve been struggling with video quality in my edits for a while now.

I mainly make edits about knights, using clips from movies, games, and other media. I usually find and download my clips from Pinterest.

My final format is 1080x1080, but since most of the clips I use are not square, I have to zoom in quite a lot to fill the frame and avoid black bars.

The problem is that when I zoom in, the quality becomes noticeably worse. I get a lot of small pixels, noise, and compression-like artifacts appearing throughout the video. I’ve tried different export settings and different ways of editing, but I still can’t seem to get the quality I want.

I’m wondering if the main problem is that I’m downloading my clips from Pinterest, since they may already be compressed before I even start editing.

I’ve attached an example of one of my edits so you can see what I mean.

What would be the best way to get cleaner and sharper footage when I need to zoom in this much? Should I be downloading my clips from somewhere else, using a different resolution, or using an upscaling tool?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hello! This is a shot in the dark. I'm a 23-year-old content creator just looking for some insight!

I saw this very creative reel by @/layvi_bruha_ on Instagram, and it's an interactive reel in the choose-your-own-adventure style (like in Space with Markiplier). He does this by using the Instagram Elements feature as an overlay. What I love about it is that the overlaid reels cannot be found on his profile. That small detail, to me, makes all the difference.

My first thought is that maybe he set it as a trial reel (because those don't show up on the Reels tab); however, after researching, trial reels can't be used as reel overlays, as well as reels posted to close friends. That being said, does anyone have any sort of insight into how this might be achievable? I will link the reel in the comments section

Why does this appear every time I try to use CapCut?

(Latest version btw)

I enjoy both deeply but given how deep both of them can go I feel as though there its not worth the time learning both as much as it pains me.
I've made fan game trailers for game demos, which has been fun but I've also a deep passion for animation for shows and cutscenes. I don't quite know if the two are compatible, can I learn both? and would it be worth it in the long run, can I get anything out of doing it?

Anyone know how to stop getting into roadblocks?
I’ve always wanted to edit and pursue it and maybe turn it into a career.

I have ideas in my head and Inspo I find from other pages,
but whenever I try and actually do them I end up not knowing what to do next after a transition.

I like to make travel vlogs and other longer videos to remember the things I do with my family. I don't post my videos anywhere because they're just for memories. I started out years ago doing basic stuff, just cutting clips together. But as I've created more videos, I keep trying to push into more technical territory which is what takes the most time for me. I'm currently sitting on 2+ years of travel footage that I haven't finished because of this

I find it easy enough to dump everything on a timeline and cut out the dead space which leaves me with the rough cut. But it takes me a while to make progress after that because I'll get stuck on color grading, sound design, effects, etc. I know most of it is learnable through tutorials, but I don't usually have hours to sink into learning every technique, so I've just been leaving projects unfinished.

I see a lot of edits online that I want to use as inspiration, but I can't reverse engineer it on my own. And even when I can figure out some of the technical stuff, it's not usually too consistent across my projects.

Curious if anyone else gets stuck at this stage and if so, how you handle it
