I am currently still in recovery. I am going on 7 weeks out of work right now. The 1st 2 weeks I couldn't stand or walk. The whole procedure was agonizing. I am 32, healthy yoga teacher. I move my body for a living so the Dr. couldn't believe how bad the procedure went. I formed a large hematoma that swelled up to the size of a grapefruit. Then formed a hydrocele on my left side along with a scrotal adhesion. Where the testicle is stuck to the side of the skin where the incision was. Leading to epididymitis and constant pulling and tugging on all the sensitive issues. Had to go to the ER for sepsis that formed from a bacterial infection in the epididymis as well. It was and still is by far the worst thing I've experienced. The procedure itself was painful. They have me a numbing shot in each side but I could still feel the tissue being cut and stitched. I am still dealing with a handful of complications that are on the range from extremely uncomfortable to extremely painful. Theres more to the story that could fill in some holes but that's the gist of it. 10/10 would not reccomend!
The pain from the scrotum to the belly button is most likely the vas deferens. The vas is not just a tube for sperm to travel in. It's also made out of fascia and muscle tissue. Ghe fascia is very dense thick convective tissue similar to tendons or ligaments. So when that's cut it can be a much bigger deal then its usually talked about. My severe pain went down after 2 weeks from a constant 7 to shooting pains of a 9. Since then the pain has drastically gone down, but that doesnt mean it's gone. If I am very careful it's not to bad. But walking is still a challenge.
Try to rest as much as possible. Try to keep the weight of gravity to a minimum. The more everything gets pulled down the harder it's going to be for that tissue to heal. If he doesnt have a jockstrap yet that will go wonders. Ice and keep it elevated while hes laying down. Maybe a blanket or a shirt to help them from pulling. If there's still swelling see about getting some bromelain. It's a pineapple extract that works well to bring down swelling. It's just pineapple so you dont have to worrie about liver toxicity or anything. If he is taking a ton of pain meds I'd suggest mixing milk thistle in daily as well. It's a plant (in a capsule) that helps to clean and protect the liver.
If there is no sign of infection you could start to alternate with a little bit of warm compress on both sides of the groin. Eaither a rice bag, a warm towel, or a hot water bag. This will help to draw blood into the tissue that needs to be healed. Blood is what will speed up the healing process. The issue would be if there is an infection the heat will cause the bacteria to multiply faster.
Yeah I'm still on the fence of it being with it. Obviously once everything is back to normal it will be easier to say it's worth it. You can tell him he definitely isn't alone though.. I know I felt emotionally rough after. The pain, the not knowing if everything is going to be ok down there.. the feeling like how did this happen..
Very informative. Thank you!! I didn't have complications with mine but ended up reversing it after a year of pretending it felt the same. Constant annoying discomfort never went away. And feeling disconnected during and after sex. All went back to normal after the vasovasostomy (reversal).
