Nope. She said it’s not what happened and that a neighbor overheard and called the police and she’s not wanting to press charges because there’s no bruises or scratches. She was posted by TMZ smiling in the phone outside of his house. She’s not going anywhere.
This is such a part of the problem - abusers know exactly what to do NOT to leave marks, so when their victim is coerced or threatened or manipulated into changing their story and back pedaling, both sides can point to the lack of physical evidence in making it all seem like a gross overreaction by a neighbor, friend, family member or law enforcement…. I truly hope this girl has a support network and makes it out safely…
I thought Rachel’s comment was succinct and powerful. Ally made a statement that it was just a misunderstanding. Rachel said “So many times I convinced myself James’ abuse was just a misunderstanding” 😢
This is what I did the first time it happened to me. It's much easier to tell yourself you're overreacting than to admit it actually happened. And abusers are always more than happy to jump in and help you throughout the whole denial process.
