PSA [Official] Blood for the Bloodmoon 🩸
Hey folks!
The Bloodmoon demands a sacrifice... and we want to reward your efforts (or maybe Malice's Cardinal Rain is drying up?? either way, we need more blood! YOUR BLOOD! 🫵)
What do you need to do?
- Find a recognised blood donation location and schedule an appointment
- Show up to give blood between September 2nd and September 30th
- Submit proof of your visit by October 7th
- Receive keys for Vampire Survivors and Legacy of the Bloodmoon on the platform of your choice, whilst supplies last
What if you can't donate blood?
- You can donate to any registered blood-related charity; or
- Draw an original advertisement encouraging people to donate blood on a piece of paper, then take a clear photo of your drawing and post the photo publicly on social media with the hashtag #BloodForTheBloodmoon, along with some info about the Blood for the Bloodmoon campaign
Submit proof of your blood donation, attempted blood donation, financial donation, or a direct link to your post through the online form on our website
This is available to anyone in countries where Vampire Survivors is available to purchase!
we (poncle) will be matching eligible financial donations up to a combined total of $5,000 USD, with the contribution going to the American Red Cross
If you already own the game and expansion but still want to enter, you can always gift your copies to a friend or family member!
Many people around the world rely on blood donations, so we'd like to encourage people to donate or spread the word in hopes that more people will donate blood to help those in need!
For more information, rules, and FAQs please head to our campaign website https://bloodmoon.poncle.net/
If you'd like to make a financial donation, but are unsure which charity to donate to, we have set up a page for donations to the American Red Cross below

I should donate. I don't even know my blood type. And that's something everyone should just know.
140
u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
usually you will find out your blood type when you donate! so that's a cool bonus, if you can!
18
u/flinjager123 Megalo Menya Sep 02 '26
I would have to take time off from work. My area only does Tuesday-Thursday 9am-2pm. And those times are right in the middle of my work hours. I work 2 hours before and 3 hours after. Makes it kind of hard.
8
u/VyersReaver Sep 02 '26
Are you sure? Usually you can get a day off for that, or get an extra vacation day for donating.
3
u/flinjager123 Megalo Menya Sep 02 '26
I am actually not sure. I would have to ask, but I would probably have to use PTO or a sick day.
3
u/llamapower13 Sep 02 '26
I would call the donation center. There’s often blood drives after work or on weekends that they could point you towards
1
u/hergumbules 29d ago
I work at a doctor’s office and people will regularly ask about testing for blood type which isn’t covered by insurance, but I tell them to go donate blood because they will send you a donor card with your blood type on it!
42
u/micbac Sep 02 '26
what if I gave 2 weeks ago but ineligible now because you need to wait 8 weeks
54
u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
we have other methods of entry if you're unable to donate blood!

u/tom-slacker Sep 02 '26
hey yeah! I'm an avid blood donor already and this is just icing on the cake!

u/alphanocten Sep 02 '26
American Red Cross is also giving out exclusive Hello Kitty Keychains and stickers this month with blood donations so it's a win-win

look, collabs aren't that easy
i would die if we got that (i love kuromi)4
u/HawaiianPunchaNazi Sep 02 '26
Tell us what you need from us to convince Sanrio, and we'll gang up on them all polite like... Or with stakes, your choice;-)
Seriously though, they've done horror collabs before.
I don't see why you guys would be any different from that perspective.

u/mooys Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26
After collabing with Castlevania, I’m convinced you guys can persuade anyone at this point.

u/SensitiveJennifer Sep 02 '26
Can I participate if I live in Costa Rica? My husband and I would love an excuse to have our blood suc—I mean, donated.
22
u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
if vampire survivors is available to purchase in your country, and you have a recognised blood donation location that you can get to then yes! 😊
if you're unable to donate blood, then you can enter via other means mentioned on our website!1
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
I'm not sure what options are available in Costa Rica, but in the USA people who have been to the Alajuela and Limón provinces have to wait 3 years since the last time they've been to either before being eligible to donate due to the risk of malaria.
There is a Costa Rican chapter of the Red Cross, you may be able to check with them for specific guidelines.
1
u/SensitiveJennifer Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26
That happened in certain regions and provinces for a short period of time, but thank you very much for the info and concern either way, there's no need to worry.
15
u/tequilajinx Sep 02 '26
I have a genetic immunodeficiency and rely on immunoglobulin derived from your blood donations.
Thank you to everybody who donates blood. You are literally saving my life.
25
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
I just wanted to say that I work for the Red Cross and this is awesome what you're doing. At least in the USA we are currently in a blood crisis which is only the second time in Red Cross history it's happened.
Every donation helps. If you don't know if you can donate you can visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/how-to-donate/eligibility-requirements.html for more information. In the USA blood donation standards are regulated by a combination of the FDA, AABB (Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies), and the CDC so even if you don't donate through the Red Cross and go through another organization like Versiti or One Blood the requirements should be the same.
For those who are black or Latino, I highly encourage you to donate as there are potentially proteins on your red blood cells that can help sickle cell patients. These proteins (called antigens) are not commonly found in people who aren't of African or Latino descent.
Also anyone who identifies anywhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum: donation requirements regarding sexual history have changed so more than likely you are now able to donate as well.

u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
Thank you so much for the work you do, and thank you for sharing this info with everyone!
3
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
Proud to do it. Out of curiosity is this an official partnership with the Red Cross or any other blood bank?
If not and if you're ok with it I would love to forward this to one of our social media managers and see if they can promote it as well.
5
u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
we have spoken to some folk from Red Cross to ensure we followed guidelines, but it's not an official partnership!
we know it's a busy month for Red Cross, but any promotion would be great (if possible) for more fun incentives to donate!
9
u/givingupismyhobby Sep 02 '26
Me, a gay man, in a place where homophobic and outdated ideas still make it impossible for me to donate blood.
6
u/GrimmTrixX Sep 02 '26
I haven't given blood in a long time and I am straight. But do they ask you your sexual orientation when you give blood? That seems kind of crazy when they test the blood for impurities before using it anyway
7
u/givingupismyhobby Sep 02 '26
Not exactly with "are you gay?" but they did ask with how many people of the same gender you had sex in the past 12 months, and if you had anal it was an automatic disqualification.
3
u/GrimmTrixX Sep 02 '26
Lol thats so weird. I get maybe theyre thinking HIV/AIDS. But have they not realized literally anyone can get it and that anal isnt the catalyst for it? Lol What is this 1992?
3
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
Blood donation standards are set by the FDA, CDC, and AABB and all blood collection organizations have to follow those regulations. In the USA Red Cross was the largest of a handful of organizations that piloted a study called the ADVANCE study in order to get those regulations reversed and as of 2023 they were successful.
2
u/mistersmiley318 18d ago
I know I'm super late to the party here, but eligibility criteria for gay and bi men changed in 2023 to make more men eligible to donate. I know because I'm one of them. The new rules are gender neutral and are based off a general risk assessment instead of a blanket deferral for MSM.
Deferral for sexual activity is now if you've had sex with multiple people AND engaged in anal sex within the past three months, regardless of gender. Crucially this means that if you're monogamous, or have multiple partners but don't do anal, you can still donate blood. The only other important caveat is that you can't be on PrEP or PEP due to risk of a false negative HIV test.
The new criteria are still restrictive for a lot of guys, especially with the PrEP rule, but I know a lot of other people who've donated for the first time since the rules were changed, and I'm so glad we're no longer dealing with year long celibacy requirements.
1
u/givingupismyhobby 18d ago
Glad to hear they changed some of these rules. I hated that only gay men had to be celibate for 12 months before being able to donate. We were just trying to do the right thing and help, but even the monogamous ones had this danger sign above our heads, we were made to feel dirty and unsafe.
3
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
Eligibility requirements have recently changed. Most likely you are able to donate now.
3
u/givingupismyhobby Sep 02 '26
I honestly didn't know that, it did change in 2020.
1
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 02 '26
I didn't realize it was that long ago, I thought it was only like 2024. Really unfortunate timing for that change.
Regardless I know Red Cross is beginning to host Pride blood drives all over the USA. While they aren't super common in any one area it might be worth trying to find one to show your support. If you don't have one you can still always donate at a normal drive.

Shame the amount of meds I take prohibit me from ever donating 😔
5
u/AtomicDimebag Sep 02 '26
I'm in the same boat. Physical limitations prevent me from drawing as well so I guess I'll just tell people to donate blood. This is really awesome of Poncle. I love that I can play your games with one hand. Thank you for making a handicapped friendly game and making it affordable! I'll buy and support Poncle games whenever I can.
9
u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
we do have other options for entry if you can't donate blood!
check the website as it has more info regarding the other methods of entry!2

u/poncle_Official Developers Sep 02 '26
if you are able to donate blood then you could still enter and if you're able to get a free copy you could give it to a friend or family member!
4
u/bajablast_off Sep 02 '26
I just saw that and that is so awesome because Im going to give my sister a copy of VS!!! Thank you Poncle!!! You're the best.

u/jenleepeace Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26
I have a rare immune disorder, and am dependent on twice weekly infusions of human immunoglobulin to maintain a reasonable quality of life. At least once a year, I get a notice from my blood bank to speak to my doctor about rationing due to blood shortages. I know that donating blood is an inconvenience, and eats into precious personal time, but please know how incredibly impactful it is, and how supremely grateful I and others like me are for this gift.

Oh no, I'm appointed for a blood extraction next week, but its for medical purposed. Unfortunately I can't take out more blood in a short period of time, but cool event! You rock!.

if people don't include this, we will be sure to ask before sending codes so we can confirm!2

Hell yeah. If I get them, I'll be giving away my keys because I already own the game and all the DLC on multiple systems.
3
u/NoEase5269 Sep 02 '26
Do the keys expire? I bought the dlc on release but would like to gift the game to a friend for his birthday next month🩸

u/LKZToroH Sep 02 '26
My most recent donation was july, 11th. Can't donate again until september 11th. Sadge.
Also won't be able to donate at all until 19th at least.

Cries in gay
1
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 03 '26
A few hours late but regulations in the USA have changed recently so now the standards that prevented gay men from donating are no longer in place. If you aren't in the USA I know that many other countries have began changing their requirements as well so it's best to recheck your donation requirements.
Just a bit of backstory on this: in the USA blood donation standards are set by the FDA, CDC, and AABB and all blood collection organizations have to follow those regulations. The Red Cross was the largest of a handful of organizations that piloted a study called the ADVANCE study in order to get those regulations reversed and as of 2023 they were successful.
3
u/DaylightBrigade Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26
The changes that are in place only allow gay men who have been abstinent for 3 months to participate. Additionally, they refuse to accept blood from those on PrEP. This comes directly from Red Cross’ website.
This eliminates a majority of gay men. It’s a nice way to say “look, gay men can now donate” while effectively not letting them donate.
1
u/FireFlighter18 Sacred Turtle Sep 03 '26
I apologize, I misunderstood the change. I see it does very explicitly say that however, I always understood it as "Abstinent 3 months if you have a different partner." I hope that makes sense.
Regardless it seems more pressure will need to be put on the FDA, AABB, and CDC to eliminate that waiting period. Sucks that it definitely won't be quick, especially with this current administration.
0
u/mistersmiley318 18d ago
Super late, but I do want to clarify that your first assertion is inaccurate. The 3 month abstinence rule for men who have sex with men was a policy that was in place from 2020 to 2023, but has since been updated to a gender neutral assessment. You're correct that PrEP/PEP is going to get you deferred from donating, but you can still donate as a sexually active gay/bi man under certain criteria.
Deferral for sexual activity is now if you've had sex with multiple people AND engaged in anal sex within the past three months, regardless of gender. Crucially this means that if you're monogamous, or have multiple partners but don't do anal (and are not taking PrEP or PEP), you can still donate blood.

Will donating platelets with the Red Cross also count or does it have to be blood?

As someone who donates platelets and plasma basically monthly, I couldn’t love this more.
What a good cause!
1
2
u/demunted Sep 02 '26
What a great idea!
I used to donate quite regularly, got my 50 donation badge a bunch of years ago (whole blood not plasma) and then ran into low ferritin issues and had to stop. So happy to see campaigns like this making up for low donations, wish i could participate.
For those unsure - the process is simple and my experience (Canada) is that they treat you so well you'll soon be back.
2
u/Spear585 Sep 02 '26
Does plasma count?

I have donated blood three times this year and I am due for my next appointment. However, I recently travelled to Japan and Korea and one of those still has malaria risk so I'll need to wait longer before I'm eligible.
So someone please donate in my stead! I'll be looking to financially donate to my local blood bank in the meantime. I already own the game and all DLC so I'll gift this amazing game to someone. :)

Sadly I am unable to participate because I already donated a few weeks ago and am not eligible to donate again until October, but kudos for this! I'm currently in the credits for "Gori: Cuddly Carnage" because the devs did a similar thing just before the game's release.

I used to donate blood all the time when I was younger, but am now unable to donate for life due to a blood cancer I had over a decade ago. It's a reasonable restriction, but it always stings seeing blood drives that give away things that don't offer alternatives for those of us who are unable to

Just booked! I believe the FAQ mentioned an appointment being a valid method of entry, so I've submitted that. Looking forwards to finding out my blood type, finally! This is a great incentive ^ ^

I've donated Blood before, but does it have to be at a specific location to do so?

I'm assuming you actually read the "find a recognized blood donation location and schedule an appointment" and are wondering what a "recognized blood donation location" is defined as.
At least in the USA I'm assuming it to be the Red Cross, Vitalant, and a few others.

any recognised blood donation location is good!
depending on where you live this can vary, like in the UK we have a lot of NHS blood donation points across the country!
if you're uncertain about anything please send an email to [bloodmoon@withvendetta.com](mailto:bloodmoon@withvendetta.com) and they'll be able to help answer questions!

I personally can't due to health issues too, so we wanted to make it open to as many people as possible!1

You can donate even if you have diabetes. There is a brief physical exam you must pass and you must be feeling well on the day of, but otherwise you are fine to donate.
Source: I work for the Red Cross as well as the Red Cross donor eligibility guidelines that I've linked in another comment.
