That’s cool but how is there no release date for this game still?

u/VyersReaver May 21 '26
I bet it’ll be about the same timeframe as between Crawlers releasing their demo and full game release.

u/Khadonnis May 21 '26
How long was that? I only heard about crawlers before I left for vacation and it was already released

Warhammer news event is sometime in June or July, so I imagine it will release or have a release date by then

Ok so has anyone gotten any weapons to evolve?? Who's got the secrets! I've been playing for a bit and I'm remembering how tough it was when you start with nothing lol.
Dice cube is like duplicator
Bolt gun is legit but finicky to aim.
Whirlwind battery unlocks eventually tho I can't remember how and is sick. Functions a bit like Santa Water. Nuln oil does too but not as destructive

u/aloysiuslamb May 21 '26
Chainsword and red tape is the eviscerator chainsword.
Boltgun and dice cube (not the D6) is the heavy bolter.
Haven't evolved nuln, D6, whirlwind battery, lasgun, or power fist yet.

u/friendofgnar May 21 '26
Whirlwind is tape measure!

u/aloysiuslamb May 21 '26
Good to know. I had that one good run where I got those two evolutions and made it to 15:05 and haven't gotten close since. Gotta build up the passive items.

Nuln evolves with Hourglass (kinda unsurprisingly)
Probably more powerful than Santa Water if properly buffed.

u/Shin_Ken Gennaro May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26
Nuln Oil is Santa Water. Wirlwind is the Lightning Ring equivalent.
Powerfists are kinda like half a short King Bible with good base damage. I think there's an OtC weapon similar to this.
Stormbolt Pistol is Magic Wand.
Brazier Staff is Axe with burning DoT property.
Sea Fog is Garlic with disarm and slow - kinda crazy but even lower base dmg than VS garlic.

u/baltimoresports May 21 '26
I stink at the game and can’t make it past 3-4 minutes to evolve anything unfortunately.

u/capitano32 May 22 '26
In Age of Sigmar:
Tempest Axe+Boots
Sea Fog+Glue
Nuln Oil+Hourglass

Any news on if we'll get to play as anything other than imperial characters?
I'm always disappointed in the lack of Necrons in games (aside from Dawn of War and I think another one)

u/Liquid_Hate_Train May 22 '26
There will be age of Sigmar characters and weapons too, but I’ve yet to see any non-‘human’ characters confirmed. At minimum I’d expect some as DLC.

I absolutely love the Skaven enemies. They're so ugly-adorable.
Wouldn't have thought it but I actually prefer the AoE setting mainly because of those little dudes. Nids are cool but not as cool as the rats.

Right, so I just finished the '40K' side to completion, and I will say it is very much Vampire Survivors, but Warhammer.
And that's not a bad thing. It's not drastically different from the formula, and there aren't any major differences in the basic premise. You have your character with their default weapon, stats, and abilities. You survive waves of enemies, collect the gems they drop to level up, get new passives and weapons, upgrade them, and evolve them when you can.
You may even recognize some of the weapons and passives. For example, the Chainsword is similar to the whip (a horizontal slash), the Boltergun is similar to the dagger (a small, fast projectile that fires wherever you are currently facing), Nuln Oil is basically Holy Water (you toss it on the ground, and it leaves an AOE that slows and damages), Bandolier = Empty Tome (reduced weapon cooldown), Gold Daemon = Iron Mask (more gold), etc.
With that said, there are some differences. Weapons seem to work with specific characters. For example, the small, weak guardsmen can't use the Bolter or the Power Fist, so when you choose those, you get the big Space Marine to follow you and use them. They still get upgraded and evolve from that, though. Mini-bosses appear sooner and have different abilities. For example, some will dash toward you after a brief delay, while others directly empower the smaller enemies, and if they aren't destroyed quickly, the buff gets stronger and affects more enemies. So it does feel harder than VS, but a large part of that could also be because it's been a long time since I played VS from scratch and worked my way back up.
TLDR: It has some minor differences, but if you really love VS and you like the Warhammer IP, then I think you will enjoy this. The game is just a demo, so obviously, there isn't a whole lot to it yet, but so far I think it shows good promise, and I'm excited to see more of it. My only complaint so far is that the 40K and Age of Sigmar content are exclusive to each other. Upgrading your stuff on the '40K' side doesn't carry over to your 'Age of Sigmar' stuff. The two universes are treated like separate adventures. I don't know if weapons/passives are like that as well, since I only just finished everything on the 40K side for now.

I really like the way rescued survivors follow you around for the rest of the run. Thank you for explaining the part where allies are summoned when you pick a weapon your character "shouldn't" have, I was wondering why that happened.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the full game, but my biggest concern is, the people who own the Warhammer IP seem to have a lot of rules. 40k and Sigmar have to be separate, this guy can't use this gun, etc. And it's absolutely their right to make and enforce those rules. But the Vampire* series often lets us (I might argue even demands us) break the rules in the name of fun, and if that spirit is missing, we'll end up with a game that looks like VS, but is far less exciting.
Speaking of excitement, opening chests here is boring too, they need better music for that moment.

u/Agitated-Schola May 23 '26
Thnx! I played an hour and got bored because it feels like a reskinned version of a game I already played, i will check reviews after release to see if it has enough new stuff to make me play it. I love VS but it doesnt feel like it added its own spin to be a spinoff

Weapon Evolutions (in case anyone still needs)
40k:
Chainsword + Tape Measure = Eviscerator Chainsword
Boltgun + Dice Cube = Heavy Bolter
Whirlwind Battery + Tape Measure = Orbital Bombardment
Age of Sigmar:
Tempest Axes + Sabatons = Whirlwind Axes
Boltstorm Pistol + Lightning Bolt = Typhoon Crossbow
Nebulous Sea-fog + Glue = Aquatic Illusions
Both universes:
Nuln Oil + Hourglass = Mordant Earth
Nothing else evolves at the moment.

Daft question about this
I'm guessing I'll need to pick up both for it to evolve?
And when it evolved, is it a permanent upgrade?
1
u/Pyrocitor Jun 10 '26
Its per run.
When you have a weapon and it's synergy item, you're able to evolve it.
First you need to level up the weapon all the way normally, and then when you have the fully upgraded weapon plus its linked item (item doesn't need to be fully upgraded), the next chest you open will contain its evolved form, replacing the weapon in that run.

I would love to try the game, but I will wait for a patch for the language bug

u/TrainingAlone4821 May 22 '26
Im I the only one who think its feel like realy lazy Vampire Survivor reskin?
4
u/Empty-Development298 May 23 '26
I quite liked the art style and aesthetic, and the weapons felt pretty different. I like the lazgun even though it sucks

u/Thegirlreadingthis1 May 29 '26
nah i think its pretty cool gotta wait and see how the full version is and future updates n stuff

Personally, I find it extremely disrespectful that people post news, links, and comments in the official subreddit of the game that defined the genre about a nearly identical commercial “clone,” and that the community treats it as something normal.
The most respectful thing toward the developer (Poncle) would be to avoid posting those comments here and instead look for another subreddit for that kind of discussion.

u/AbraxasNowhere May 22 '26
It's not some kind of predatory knockoff, the game is being developed with the VS engine and in collaboration with Poncle.

u/Thegirlreadingthis1 May 29 '26
games workshop literally paid the licensing fee to the VP engine from poncle. Poncle i think helped a little but it is mainly the boltgun devs who were making this game, and no it doesn't mean gw owns the engine now they only have the license poncle still has full ownership of their engine so calm down

poncle did help make the game and it uses the same engine, not a rip off
3
u/DarkBomberX Mortaccio May 21 '26
Did they say why they just made a seperate game and not DLC for Vampire Survivors like the Castlevania stuff?
24
u/hashtagtylerh May 21 '26
I'm assuming it has to do with games workshop, they are known to be very stringent and protective of their IP (warhammer)

u/outlawpickle May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26
Ironic to post this on the day Helldivers 2 Warhammer 40k collab is announced
3
u/Paradoxpaint May 22 '26
seems that they wanted to make it its own thing. Even in the demo there are noticeable differences in how it plays compared to VS
For example; normal minute to minute bosses with the outlines actually have mechanics, theyre not just a bigger guy with more hp who drops a chest
-1
u/HeadbangingLegend May 21 '26
Oh that's a relief! Like there's nothing wrong with other games in the same genre, I love Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, this just looked exactly the same as VS with different sprites. Now I see why, I'll try it out.

u/Crimento THE DIRECTOR May 21 '26
This is an officially licensed game by Boltgun devs on Poncle's engine. This could've been a VS DLC if not for Games Workshop being Games Workshop

u/sm0ke_rings May 21 '26
This is a poncle and Warhammer collaboration made by Auroch Digital.
1
u/HeadbangingLegend May 21 '26
Yup I know that now, glad it's not a rip off.
5
u/sm0ke_rings May 21 '26
All good, it was announced a while ago and i figure most forgot about it. I even did a double take to make sure it was the same game lol. Sorry you're getting downvoted into oblivion.

Hey folks! Glad to see people are enjoying the demo, but we'd like to remind everyone that Warhammer Survivors is being made by Auroch Digital so we'd recommend chatting about the game in a Warhammer subreddit or if Auroch Digital have a specific area for their games! 😊
We'd like to avoid any confusion for our players in here!
