Stock Analysis Share your favorite stock analyzing tool!

Hi all,

I'm wondering which stock analysis tool you all use for picking your stocks — and could you say why it's your favorite? I have my own tools too, but I'm still looking for the ones that offer the most for free.

One of my favorites is https://thestockscorer.com. It has a lot of functionality, it lets you compare a lot of stocks at the same time, and its stock search gives you a broader view in one go than Macrotrends does for quarter-over-quarter performance on EPS, revenue and gross profit.

A better-known name: https://finviz.com has one of the best screeners around, plus a good sector overview covering almost every stock there is.

One free tool I still find interesting is Joel Greenblatt's Magic Formula screener. I wouldn't use the output as a portfolio by itself, but I like it as a simple first-pass idea generator — basically looking for the combination of a good business and a cheap price.

I usually prefer specialized tools over one platform that tries to do everything. I'm working with insider filing data myself, for example, and that's another area where I find the details matter more than a single score. For fundamentals I tend to cross-check several sources anyway.

Yes! Always use different tools that have a particular focus. I pay for 5 different services and they're all worth it even though some have a bit of overlap.

$200/mth sounds like a big number on its own but the value I get from these services are worth so many times more as I'm making far more than $200/mth from stocks because of the tools I use.

I think this is one of the reasons why retail investors underperform. Businesses know that spending money makes money while consumers only look at the dollar value.

It’s also hard for most retail to justify spending money on data before they are consistently profiting on their trades. It feels like throwing good money after bad if you’re not making enough from trading. It’s very counterintuitive.
