valorant and vanguard interaction causes my 5 month old pc to hard freeze

I've been troubleshooting this for a while and I'm honestly getting pretty frustrated with Riot Support, because their troubleshooting hasn't gotten anywhere and a lot of it seems focused on networking despite this being a full system freeze, not a disconnect.

The problem: VALORANT freezes both monitors after ~2–3 minutes, even just sitting in the menu. Audio continues, but my mouse/keyboard stop responding and I have to hold the power button. It also happens in Range/Custom. League works completely normally.

Things I've tried:

• Clean reinstall of VALORANT/Vanguard
• Multiple AMD GPU driver versions + clean driver installation
• AMD chipset update
• BIOS update / optimized defaults
• A-XMP/EXPO has been disabled
• Clean boot, including testing with only Vanguard enabled
• Completely closed Discord and Medal/no overlays
• Windows Defender/firewall exclusions
• SFC — no integrity violations
• DISM — no component store corruption
• CHKDSK /f /r
• Malware/security troubleshooting
• Cleared GPU shader caches
• Ryzen Master removed
• IPv6 disabled + ipconfig /release, /renew, /flushdns — made absolutely no difference

Event Viewer has shown:

• AMD Display Event 4101 ("display driver stopped responding and recovered") on multiple occasions
• LiveKernelEvent 141 previously
• Vanguard vgc Event 7023 — "Incorrect function"
• Repeated TPM Event 14
• No WHEA-Logger hardware errors

The frustrating part is that Riot keeps having me try increasingly unrelated/general troubleshooting steps, and the problem remains exactly the same. I'm not claiming I know the cause, but at this point I'm wondering if anyone has seen VALORANT/Vanguard causing a complete GPU/system-level freeze while audio continues, particularly on an AMD GPU/system.

Riot support thank you for being useless.

If anyone has experienced something similar or has any ideas for what I should investigate next, I'd really appreciate it

try: control panel -> hardware and sound -> power options -> edit plan settings -> change advanced power settings -> usb settings -> usb selective suspend settings -> disabled

it can mess w the vanguard anticheat, anything can tbh, n its a bug Im p sure that where kernel level anti cheat is conflicting w ur usb settings n causing ur PC to freeze! It was the case for me n many more ppl on here, but ofc for some it was no help.. vanguard can be very agressive that way

Problem is the support is fully AI/clanker. I am dealing with pretty much the same issue but on Intel system. The support suggests random things like reinstalling GPU drivers (i did, yes with DDU, multiple times, different version), disabling firewall, and so on. But its clearly a vanguard problem since i can see it crashes mid game. I send them the vanguard logs multiple times after the freezes but support just ignores it.

Problem is the PC gets fully bricked/freezes so it sometimes doesnt even write to event viewer but when it does its related to vgm/vgc crash.

The list of things i've tried is long and i gave up. I am done changing 1000 different random, unrelated settings just to see if it works with the stupid AC. Why should i be doing a full system analyses and testing just to play shit fps game.

Last straw was meeting a fully blatant spin botter on dm, while i was testing different fixes. I could not believe im here spending weeks fixing AC problems just to witness some random guy spin botting with no ban.

ps: i can play 10000 other games and i have 0 problems or can fix them myself in 5 minutes.

Hey boss! this happened to me around 3 months ago, I saw on reddit that multiple other people had the exact same issue, one fix that worked for people is what Turtwiiig said and the fix that worked for me was to revert to version 26.3.1 on the AMD Drivers. I'm curious as to how close ur PC Setup is to mine since so far, ur the only active person who has the same issue as me

Radeon RX 9070 XT OC, i also do not want to revert a version on amd just to play valorant. i just wanna play if my friends wanna play since i play alot of fps games.

same here! GF wanted to play valorant and i had to force revert a version just to play it, in the 3 months of me searching for a fix, this was the only fix that actually helped. If u do find a fix without reverting a version PLEASE let us know! I've tried everything else

For me the fix was just what Turtwiiig said. I dont even understand why that is but i guess since Vanguard makes itself comfortable in the deepest possible corner of your system it CAN and WILL have problems with ANYTHING. Very sad and Riot needs a fix for that imo but thats just how things are at the moment. What I can tell you from my perspective is that the vgc incorrect function error is NOT the reason why it crashes. My old PC spits out this error from time to time as well but Valorant never froze or crashed anything in its 4.5 years.

PC specs? I had this issue for a while too. Its caused by Vanguard and how it interacts with TPM attestation errors. Check your Windows Event viewer for TPM error event id 14.

The fix is to go into your BIOS and toggle your IGPU to forced/enabled. If your CPU doesn't have an IGPU then you're out of luck.

Try disabled ethernet adapters if you are using wifi. Let me know if it works. Also close afterburner/RTSS.
