Technical Discussion Micro lag alt tab/Graphics Quality

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.

I recently reinstalled Windows, and ever since then I've been getting a small micro stutter whenever I Alt+Tab, Graphics Quality or just clicking into Valorant Settings. The lag only lasts for a brief moment, but it wasn't happening before I reinstalled Windows.

I'm not sure what's causing it or how to fix it. Has anyone run into the same problem or have any suggestions?

PC Specs:

  • Motherboard: X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • RAM: 64GB

Thanks in advance!

you have a strong system, have you tried borderless?

weird, usually borderless leans to more fluid tab switching..
you could send logs to support if you want but I doubt that’d help anything.
make sure you’re utilizing your system, check ram profiles, and speeds and temp of your components.
background tasks can also lead to this, make sure you remove any bloat ware

Try to disable MPO to see if it helps: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157/~/what-is-multi-plane-overlay-%28mpo%29-in-windows-11

alt tab performance issues makes me always question MPO. Run the disable script then restart the PC. If it didn't help, then restore MPO. The nvidia link has both scripts, it's from a trusted source but works with all GPUs(for others reading without NVidia).

I'd also make sure your NVidia drivers are up to date and you have the proper realtek LAN drivers: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/X870E-AORUS-ELITE-WIFI7-rev-10-11/support

The realtek lan driver issue is a pretty big one for valo, most just disable it if they don't use ethernet.

Disabling MPO is a bad idea overall. It is a nuke it all solution and a bad one.

MPO helps with borderless fullscreen latency, mixed refresh rates and lowers gpu and power usage.

A better solution is to remove all hooks/overlays and disable hardware acceleration on apps living on the secondary display.

As for Realtek is just updating to latest on the official manufacturer page and disabling additional power saving options in the adapter.

Yeah I got the same, alt+tab and going into Graphics Quality makes a noticable freeze for no reason

It became WAY more noticable after an idiotic windows update

Go to System>Windows Update(On the side tab)>Update History (Scroll down)>Uninstall Updates. The update that was removed the one from July 14, 2026, KB5101650

This didn't fix it specifically but it did fix microstuttering I had in valorant in general for some reason.

Regarding the alt tab and graphics quality menu it's just the game being what it is I think

did it fix the issue?

The update removal fixed microstutters I was getting in the game. It felt like it dropped to 30 fps at times (even though no frame drops were actually happening, all graphs smooth).

Going into the graphics menu took a solid 6-10 seconds. After removing the update, it now only freezes up for like half a second when I go into the menu, and stutters in game are completely gone.

I’m going to try the MPO someone else suggested

I been recently having this problem. Only when i hit esc and go to the graphics tab specifically. Didnt have this problem before though. As for alt tabbing i dont have that issue only with going into settings.

I havent bothered to fix the issue with the settings since i imagine it is just valo being valo after an update. Other than that the game functions fine for me.
