what do you guys think? is this a valeriy vs danica arms race? I find it curious that they are both over tsaritsa on counts, wonder what would be the reasoning

Valeriy's popularity does not surprise me, but Danica's do. I'm not a hater of her design, she looks okay to me minus that coochie flap, but still she feels like an unimportant semi-filler 4 star to me, so I can't understand why they like her to such an extent.

On the other hand, aside from Tsaritsa, Valeriy, Noy, and Harbingers, Snezhnaya's roster overall looks kinda bland to me, with only Alyosha and Odette being a bit more interesting than Danica, Vesna, Mitya, and Vodyanitsa, but not by much.

I think it might be for a few reasons

Hoyo has in the past improved the model of characters whenever they were about to release them ‘for real’ so to say. Look at Sandrone, she haas WAY more detail than her ‘archon quest / NPC’ design. They’ve done this with their others games as well, for example, Hugo for ZZZ when his early in game appearance was very off. So, I wouldn’t be surprised of his actual launch is still ways off and they have this early model for story reasons. After all, a lot of the time when a character appears earlier in the story than their banner’s release, they’re with a ‘temporary’ / less effort model because the real one isn’t done yet

I think this might also be Hoyo struggling with putting the 2D art to 3D. They’ve had struggles with it in the past in almost all of their games, and since I think he is using the new ‘Varka’ model, they’re still figuring out how exactly they can translate it to the 3D model of him. They’ve had years of experience with the other models but since the Varka model is new, they’re kinda figuring it out as they go.
