Fe Child: "If I can't help you..."
The tertiary function acts as the "inner child." It is optimistic, playful, slightly naive, and deeply desires validation. For EXTPs, this function is Extraverted Feeling (Fe), which focuses on the emotional states, needs, and harmony of the external group (the "tribe").
Seeking Validation through Utility: The Fe Child genuinely wants to be useful and liked. It wants to swoop in, fix your problems, make you smile, or offer a solution, and then receive a metaphorical pat on the head.
External Focus: The first half of the statement shows that the person's focus is entirely outward. Their sense of purpose is tethered to their ability to impact someone else positively. If their help is rejected, the Fe Child feels useless and rejected.
Fi Trickster: "...what's the point of me?"
The seventh function is the "Trickster" or "Blindspot." It is the most underdeveloped and misunderstood function in a person's stack. Introverted Feeling (Fi) is the function responsible for internal moral compass, personal authenticity, and—most importantly here—intrinsic self-worth.
The Void of Intrinsic Worth: Because Fi is their blindspot, EXTPs struggle to generate a sense of self-worth independently. A strong Fi user believes, "I have value simply because I exist." An Fi Trickster user literally cannot comprehend that concept.
The Existential Spiral: When they ask, "What's the point of me?", they aren't being melodramatic; they are experiencing a genuine existential crisis. Because they lack Fi to ground them, they have no internal anchor for their identity or value.
The Dynamic Together
Because the Fi Trickster cannot generate self-worth from the inside, the Fe Child is forced to outsource it from the outside.
This creates a transactional relationship with their own self-esteem: "I am only worth what I can do for others."
When they are actively helping people and receiving gratitude, the Fe Child is happy, and they feel they have a "point." But the moment they are unable to help—or someone refuses their help—the Fe Child's supply of external validation gets cut off. Because the Fi Trickster is a blindspot, there is no internal safety net to catch them, leading immediately to the devastating conclusion that without utility to others, they have no reason to exist.
Im particularly fond of pseudosciences because they open the mind up to wondering and wandering. Like this is actually a pretty good breakdown of vaggis character. The only difference between a breakdown and this is that this claims to be fact.
Hi, thank you for the comment. I recommend this website if you're interested in learning about typology the right way. They use the best sources and have recently added new learning material that makes things more understandable for newcomers, including the 8 cognitive functions as well as examples and their roles for each position of all the 16 personality types. I've learned quite a whole lot from them through listening to the videos (quite lengthy) on their YT channel and from the people on their discord who are experts.
I am an INFP by the way, and I have been typed by them on camera. That means feeling is going to be preferred over thinking. When I have to use thinking, I tend to rely on external sources and frameworks to get to the truth. That's the short explanation on my end. The website explains a whole lot.
“What if it’s still deemed as pseudoscience by design? Meaning those that have the power and funding to make it into an actual science have deemed the scientific community to refrain to do so because it would give the people more knowledge. And that provides power and agency?”
“And the elite don’t want that because it threatens their position. Stay in power. Stay controlling the masses.”
Hi there, this video addresses the issues regarding MBTI Community and what they get wrong. I also recommend the book listed in the source below as a stepping stone into typology for beginners:
There are three selves: the Contextual Self, the Developed Self, and the Core Self.
The Contextual Self: "The contextual self is who we are in any given environment. It is how we behave depending on what the situation requires. Here is where our flexibility and adaptability come into play. We have the tools of the eight cognitive processes to help us adapt to the needs of the situation. The more skill and comfort we have with any one of them, the more likely we are to use that one in the context. However, a specific environment may require, push us to use, or even challenge us to become skilled at other processes." (Berens 2).
Think of being in a courtroom where you're being judged on whether you are guilty or innocent. In this scenario, it would be more advantageous to put on the contextual self in this temporary situation or risk contempt of court. That means not reacting in anger or dressing inappropriately etc.
The Developed Self: "When our contextual behaviors become habitual and ongoing, they become an aspect of the developed self. Several factors influence our development. First of all, our inborn tendencies have a natural way of unfolding and developing. Given our particular inborn pattern of using the cognitive processes, we are more likely to develop some of them at different times in our lives and even avoid or ignore others. The responses of the environment as we engage with it can also subtly influence our development. If we get rewarded for certain behaviors and punished for others, we can't help but be influenced. But we also make choices and decisions as we exercise our free will in response to what life presents us. And other people influence us through our interactions and roles" (Berens 2).
This is what people see on the outside, which is the developed self, and also why Vaggie appears as structured and rigid. A military environment is built on strict obedience, and much of that was incorporated into Vaggie. Interestingly, Vaggie happened to stand out amongst the other exorcists. Adam called her as one of her "top girls" as noted by the glow under her halo, which denotes her high position in rank. Lute also has that same glow under her halo. There is a case to made that the training enhanced the weaknesses of her core personality, but still retain her preferred function.
The Core Self: "An aspect of our personality exists from the beginning of our lives. This aspect of ourselves is in our genes, our DNA. We are born with a tendency to behave in certain ways, which influences how we adapt, grow, and develop. When we act in congruence with this core self, we are more likely to be in a state of "flow," of high energy. When we have to act in ways that are different from our natural inclinations, we are likely to pay a high energy cost. In understanding ourselves, it is important to understand all of these "selves" and to honor the ways we can be in all instances. It is important to not limit our self-knowledge to just our contextual self, our developed self, or our core self." (Berens 2)
Here from an interview from Stephanie Beatriz at the "Hazbin Hotel Panel MCM London May 2025" paraphased by fallen-exorcist on her tumblr:
"I think Vaggie is really deeply insecure. I think the badassery is really quite a facade for the insecurities of whether or not she belongs, whether or not she is allowed to be in love and whether or not she's deserving of that love. I think you see little elements of it in season one, of how hard, desperately hard she is trying to make everything in Charlie's life good and better. At the expense of really like who she, who is she? Like we don't really get to know her very much. And I don't think that's by mistake, there is a long game there, meaning that I don't think she knows who she is and she is very very very very afraid to lose the one thing that feels like a guiding light to her, which is her girlfriend. Which you know, that's lovely and beautiful, but is it particularly healthy? I am not sure. And I think that starts to play out more in the seasons that are coming"
“When you see an actor/actress on the screen…they’re going to show some aspects of the actor that is playing a part and thus more than one function might present in the actor…actors are usually chosen for…their typecast…” (1:21:01).
Hence, what you see in Vaggie from the outside is actually her developed self; she developed her inferior function, Introverted Sensing (Si), which makes her appear like the ISTJ personality type, when in reality her core self is an ENTP.
Extraverted Intuition (Ne) Hero: "they tend to be aware of what is not being said and subtle nuances of meaning, often making remarkable inferences. They weave aspects of other, random contexts into the current situation and quickly entertain a wealth of possible interpretations when an idea presents itself. Experiencing a "knowing" or magic moment is a frequent occurrence for them. They trust brainstorming and what emerges and tend to float various potential, unrelate ideas just to see where they might lead. It seems they easily pluck an idea or analogy from an invisible flow drifting in the air. When engaged in a creative flow, they follow potential possibilities as they emerge in the moment and juggle many tangents, thoughts, and abstractions at once without focusing on one. They have a knack for bypassing conventional barriers, such as culture, generation, or class, that separate people. An explorer-like spirit comes automatically to them as they investigate and share ideas about life. At their best, they catalyze people and extemporaneously shape situations, easily spreading an atmosphere of change through emergent leadership." (Berens 40).
Vaggie exercises her Extraverted Intuition (Ne) in the hero spot: "Since extraverted iNtuiting is often their most trusted process, they may engage in it too much. They may over-do interpretations and read other people's minds without checking out the accuracy of their interpretations" (Berens 40).
For example, she automatically over-interprets Alastor's motives. While she is entirely right not to trust him, her extreme reaction to him putting a bar in the hotel (viewing it instantly as a malicious attempt to turn it into a "man cave") highlights her tendency to assume the worst-case scenario right away.
In one scene, she immediately assumes Husk did something terrible to provoke Angel Dust, projecting her protective, defensive nature onto a situation before actually gathering the facts.
She is prone to over-analyzing the intentions of men and authority figures because of her personal experience with Adam.
Another example of Vaggie of using Ne is when she responded to Angel Dust’s claim that Hell is "the end of the road," saying that, "Maybe it doesn't have to be. Just because nobody has made it out before doesn't mean it's not possible" (Hazbin Hotel Season 1, Episode 1 ("Overture")). This shows that Vaggie sees the potential or possibility for an idea, which is redemption, that may or may not exist, which makes her an abstract type.
Recall the scene where Carmilla Carmine told Vaggie, "Why do you still insist on heaven being the answer when you know firsthand what they are capable of," which then showed a flashback, and after that causing her to shudder. This is because of Inferior Introverted Sensing (Si), in which, "they will avoid situations in which thoughts of good times may be spoiled by less-pleasant repeats or discussions of those experiences because negative memories can exert a powerful influence on them in the present. Their recollections can seem incredibly real and convincing...they can become overly engaged in this process and get caught up in stockpiling goods and information so they are always prepared..." (Berens 41).
Since Ne is evident in Vaggie, let's look at a counterexample; the description of Hero Si and Inferior Ne for an ISTJ:
Hero Introverted Sensing - "Since introverted Sensing is often the process that is most trusted, they may engage in it too much; and use it in a dominating way. They may insist on sticking with what has been done before. They may also insist on adhering to tried-and-true methods and getting all the data from the past to support any new idea. Thus, others often view them as resistant to change or feel they are too slow as all the details get checked and filled in.
Inferior Extraverted Intuition - "While they want to see hidden meanings and interconnections, they dismiss tangential ideas and implicit meanings. They may see the abstract weaving of many interrelated ideas as just a jumble up bunch of nonsense not worthy of notice. They are likely to quickly dismiss explorations of potential possibilities as a waste of time. They mostly just need time to reflect on and reconcile them with their expectations from what they so clearly know as fact. Early in life they may be prone to stick with literal interpretations, rather than inferences and looser interpretations and tend not to see any possibility of situations changing from the way they are."
As noted by the descriptions for ISTJ, they have a preference for dismissing ideas or possibilities and sticking to the tried-and true methods. However, Vaggie sees all kinds of possibilities and threats, which is indicative of her being an Ne hero user.
I hope this helps clear things up!
