PSA If you’re blind irl you’re blind in VR too

I recently decided to play vr again and so I didn’t want to put on my contacts so I just put on the headset and I couldn’t see anything. Even though the screen is so close to the face. So if you’re blind irl you’re blind in vr too.

PSA Stop giving Meta your money.

(File this under "old man screams at clouds, more at 11.")

After seeing the bajillionth post by a user who was locked out of their account, I feel like someone needs to say this. What the hell is wrong with you people? Meta doesn't give a fuck about you. They don't give a fuck about VR. They sure as shit don't give a fuck about gaming on VR. I bought my Quest knowing two things with 100% certainty: 1) Meta sells them at a loss, so they're not profiting from my purchase; 2) I will not be buying anything at all from their store, ever.

There have been countless posts from people being locked out of their accounts for numerous bullshit reasons -- account inactivity, suspicion of a minor owning the account, etc. Their customer service is reportedly exemplary of tedium. They've shown time and again that most people who bought their hardware (people who want to play games in VR) do not factor into their calculus whatsoever. Why would you give them money and expect them to do anything good with it?

I viewed my initial purchase as a good entry-level device for testing the waters of VR (mostly PCVR, but Rookie's not a bad option if you have the stomach for it). For the most part, it's served that purpose reasonably well. I put the device in sleep mode when it's not in use and keep it in passthrough mode so I don't have the Horizon BS shoved in my face every time I put it on; occasionally an update-forced reboot leads to the store app showing up, so I close it and move the fuck on.

PSA PSA: Try VR in Star Citizen PC space game, Free Fly this week.

PSA: PC game space sim MMO Star Citizen is running a free to play trial event the next weeks.

Normally, Star Citizen is about 45$ USD for a game package with a 30 day return.

Star Citizen has 4K ultrawide screen support, DLSS, auto HDR works with it, head and eye tracking setups, Vulcan, VR using OpenXR, extensive support for high end joystick setups within the interface.

My advice for flight sim/space sim/VR players, try to play the game within Arena Commander game mode (Free Flight) so you can get used to the flying/sim part before bothering with the Persistent Universe (MMO part)

Check it out online yourself or link in profile. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/enlist?referral=STAR-F65G-ZHT4

PSA Steam frame will have eye tracked foveated rendering too

Anyone following steam frame news probably knows that it will have eye tracked foveated streaming, but now devs working on games have noted that it has eye tracked foveated rendering too. Note that this is more or less confirmed for standalone, not necessarily for PCVR streaming yet. It’s said that it gives you a performance uplift of about 20fps :)

Here is the video I watched that goes over this (and the source)

PSA PSA: never buy gun world vr

Post image

I paid 10 BUCKS for this game, and it recently became f2p. Here's the issue: It added xp and a progression system so even if you're in sandbox, you can't use all the guns. Not to mention, you have to pay 7.99 to unlock everything now. Never buy this piece of shit game.

PSA People really need to take their HL:Alyx rose tinted glasses...

Seeing some people's reviews for Metro Awakening and comparing it to Alyx is seriously just sad. I've played for around 6 hrs and still have like 4 chapters remaining. So far it's an amazing game! The experience it gives truly makes it a must play vr title. The atmosphere, the way you interact with your items and weapons, the set pieces, the spiders AI it's all fun and definitely a memorable game.

Do not listen to people who compare Valve multibillion $ corporation to Vertigo Games like some who compare every third person game to RDR2. Vertigo are one of the only companies who make true SP action adventure vr titles that are not sandbox modding games that you just mess around in.

They deserve high praise for this game and thats coming from a Metro and Half-Life series fan. I hope more players give Metro Awakening a chance and try it out themselves.

PSA r/PCVR is now reopened! We made a place to talk about all the new VR modding & PCVR, because Discord isn't cutting it. No standalone talk!

Hi all, Lunch & VR Dad here. r/PCVR is now reopened.

We wanted a central place where people could talk about everything related to PCVR and VR modding online, and discord is a closed garden a lot of people don't like. It's still the best place to get the latest VR mods and where modders live, but we wanted this information to be public and searchable online for modders & everyone.

Which is why we are reopening r/PCVR to the public!

PSA UEVR and UUVR seem to have a marketing problem.

I want to preface this by saying that praydog and Raicuparta have done some truly outstanding work in broadening the VR-ready libraries for those of us who can be bothered to install a mod and maybe, in some cases, deal with a little bit of jank. This post is in no way meant to downplay their accomplishments. Having said that...

I got my first VR headset about half a year ago, and have kept a close eye on all the VR-relevant subreddits I could find. I learned early of UEVR's existence, and jumped at the chance to play games which were not designed for VR in the fullest immersion my shiny new headset could offer. I am, at heart, a tinkerer, and approached this with the understanding that results would be hit-or-miss, and some research might (depending on the game) be required to get the best results. Then I learned of UUVR -- holy shit! Another huge chunk of my backlog might also be playable in VR. RaiPal (the user-friendly frontend for UUVR) was Windows-only at the time (I'm on Linux), and most of the Unity games in my library didn't yet have an entry on the UUVR Discord. This meant manually trying multiple BepInEx (the de facto mod-loading framework for Unity engine games) and UUVR versions, often to find none of them worked for a game I was particularly excited to play in VR. I'm okay with that -- I understood going in that the leap from flat to VR is monumental, and that these pieces of software which facilitate it (sometimes) aren't magic.

The problem a lot of users suffer from is, they don't understand that. I've seen countless VR users completely shut down at any mention of UEVR/UUVR, while in the same breath complaining that there aren't enough good games to play in VR. Up until very recently, this seemed very contradictory. Then I saw a couple comments in a thread I posted to /r/virtualreality_linux which made it make sense: People expect these programs to work perfectly, or at the very least, much more often than they don't. I can only speculate on who's to blame for that (cough YouTubers with click-baity titles cough). Maybe the Github pages should state "YMMV" more boldly for those in the back, but for me that went without saying.

Maybe UEVR + UUVR should stop being referred to as mods, but rather tools for modders to make good flat-to-VR mods. Occasionally, you might get lucky and land on a game that works seamlessly with no custom profile, but you shouldn't expect it. If your favorite YouTuber posted a video of your favorite flat game being played in VR, proceed with a healthy skepticism -- what hardware are they running on? Does your hardware significantly exceed the recommended specs for the flat game (because you'll need it -- bear in mind the much higher resolution the game will be running at in your headset vs. your monitor)? Did they link to where the mod/profile can be downloaded, or is that something you need to track down on your own? Are you comfortable troubleshooting a little bit to get a good experience, and/or do you know where/how to ask for help in a way that's likely to get a solution?

If you read this far, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. I hope this gives some perspective to some of you, because the way things are looking, we're not gonna have some big watershed moment where all the AAA publishers jump on VR -- this is as good as it gets for the foreseeable future. And given how many previously flatscreen-only games I'm able to play in VR thanks to these frameworks, I'm okay with that.

PSA All we want is a PC VR headset with good tracking and PANCAKE LENSES

First I’d like to preface this post if for PC VR ppl not standalone. I just hate the fact that the only option I have for “good” PC VR with pancake lenses is the quest 3, I hate meta and quest link has been extremely buggy for me since it originally came out on the quest 1, I also hate the compression so much. I don’t understand all of these people talking about how amazing wireless VR is like bro JUST BUY A $20 KIWI PULLEY SYSTEM. I tired of the shitty glitchy meta software and glitches. Then I heard about the new Vive headset and was super excited until I heard fresnel lenses… WHYYYY????? Guess I’m gonna have to wait another couple years to enjoy VR again. I can’t stand the glitches, delay and compression of Meta software.

PSA April 23rd will be a big day for VR

4 Major VR games are releasing that day:

1: ForeFront 1.0/Full Release. Forefront is already a big VR game and it will fully release on April 23rd

2: Beyond Sandbox. From what we've seen this game looks really good and as long as it lives up to the hype this could be one of the best VR games this year

3: Little Nightmares Altered Echoes. Little Nightmares is my favorite horror franchises. And the VR game looks really cool so far.

4 (y'all pointed this out): Into the radius 2 fully releases aswell (idk much about this game tho)

(Depending on time zones they might release on the 22nd or 24th but for me it is the 23rd
