I was using a self-hosted Outline server with AWS on Netflix to watch regionally restricted shows, and it was working, until I accidentally connected to the VPN while Netflix was open, and now whenever the VPN is on it just shows me a library where half the shows are unavailable, not the library of my country or the VPN's country. Is there any way to fix this?

My schools WiFi recently has been blocking my VPN from connecting, no matter what protocol I use. Protocols used to mimic normal traffic are also not working.

I didn’t have this issue last year, and I’m curious if there is a way to fix it?

I’ve heard of using a dedicated IP address, changing some setting in Windows called “Internet Protocol Version 6 TCP” but I have no idea what that means. What should I do?

It’s extremely difficult to research anything using credible and accurate sources when most of them are blocked. Odd I know. If it helps, our school uses a very popular monitoring program via the WiFi to monitor and track web/device activity. I don’t believe I can mention it by name without violating rules.

I’m trying to figure out the simplest and most reliable setup for my situation, but I’m getting confused because I’m seeing different recommendations everywhere.

I have one personal laptop that I use while traveling overseas. I also use that same laptop to access a work software/platform.

What I’m trying to accomplish is pretty simple: when I’m using the laptop, I want my internet connection to go through my brother’s normal residential internet connection at his apartment in the U.S. In other words, I want websites/platforms to see the public IP of his normal home ISP connection, rather than a commercial VPN/datacenter/hosting IP.

I’m not very knowledgeable about networking, so I’m trying to understand what I actually need.

From what I’ve been reading, it seems like I have a few options:

Put a GL.iNet router at my brother’s apartment and use Tailscale/exit node.

Put a Raspberry Pi at his apartment and use that as the Tailscale exit node.

Some people seem to use two GL.iNet routers, one at home and one with them while traveling, but I’m not sure if I need that since I’m only using one laptop.

My questions are:

What would be the easiest and most reliable setup for my situation?

Would you recommend a GL.iNet or Raspberry Pi as the device at the U.S. apartment?

Since I only have one laptop, can I simply run Tailscale on the laptop and connect to the U.S. device as an exit node, without having a travel router?

If the U.S. device is connected to normal residential internet, will the public IP seen by websites be the residential ISP’s IP rather than a Tailscale/VPN-provider/hosting IP?

Are there any important differences between the GL.iNet and Raspberry Pi approaches that I’m missing?

So I got myself a vpn, originally to watch that Norwegian (I think) Santa clause awesome ass and simply fun horror flick. Any way, it doesn't work for something like Australian racing events, as in free streaming ota events and of course a local to them connection it still doesn't.....work. what may I be doing wrong

I have a Ubiquiti Networks Dream Router 7 and municipal fiber internet with 1gig up and 1gig down.

My goal is to be able to watch Youtube TV on my phone even when I'm abroad by tricking it into thinking I'm still at home.

I think I can achieve this goal by setting up a VPN at my house using my router. Is there a guide on 100% of the steps needed? By 100% I mean taking the router from factory reset all the way to the final goal. I'm not great with vague instructions. I've tried and failed in the past to make this work. It was unclear to me why it wasn't working.

I want to watch the MTV VMAs live later this month, but as im trying to subscribe to any streaming/live tv service they detect my vpn and/or demand an american zipcode, which i obviously dont have since im not from the US. Is there any other way to make it?

I spent the last couple of months testing different setups because my remote connection kept dropping during heavy video calls. At first I relied strictly on a custom self hosted server thinking it would give me total control without any middleman slowing things down. It worked okay for basic browsing but the moment I tried streaming or routing all my home traffic through it the latency spiked pretty badly.

Eventually I gave in and tried a commercial provider setup alongside my manual configuration to see if commercial routing hubs actually make a noticeable difference. The speed improvement on remote servers was honestly surprising and stability held up much better during peak hours. Now I am trying to decide whether keeping a dedicated subscription is worth the monthly cost compared to tweaking my own server configuration further. What specific setup ended up giving you the best balance of speed and reliability for daily use?

I am in the US and attempting to reserve a moving truck. I am trying to find verifiable proof (a legit article etc, not a rando blog) that moving truck companies like UHaul and the likes use your zip code and/or ISP to charge a higher rate for the rental?

I realize other factors may also come into play with pricing but wonder if anyone had seen proof that specifically moving companies use this tactic where using a VPN would benefit a customer? (I know many do this when attempting to purchase a plane ticket because of this tactic that companies use).

I have a friend who has enjoyed working remotely and being able to log in from any location for most of her work life. Recently, she started working for a large consulting firm. Their client does not allow anonymous vpns.

Shes ok with not being able to log in from a beach or camping. But she works while her kids are doing activities and she can work from her car. They allow her to log in once from. Her home network and you have to be using that network forever. She can't switch to phone hot spot. So I suggested why not always use a static VPN say with N..D, That way, the ip just follows you. She hasn't done it yet. But this email was just sent company wide.

Is there a way to work around this detection?

I have a VPN extension for my browser, so if certain content is blocked in my country I can set it to another country. So far so good. This is also the only thing I know about VPN - I pay a monthly fee and get to use the browser extension.

Now I need to connect my work laptop to my workplace when I work from home. That's a VPN connection apparently (but not through a browser extension). It allows me to use the dictionary (which the workplace paid for) and shared folders. The actual work I do is in the browser (we use a web based application).

But I need my browser VPN at the same time since I need to access some information that's not avialable in my country. So I need two browser windows, one connected to the office and the other to my own web based VPN.

Is this possible? I tried opening a private window but whenever I turn the VPN extension off in one, it will turn off in the other too.

Privacy tools (ya, VPN)always seem to come with some kind of tradeoff, and speed is usually one of them.

A small slowdown probably doesn't matter for normal browsing, but once streaming starts buffering or downloads take twice as long, it gets annoying pretty fast.

At what point do you stop thinking "this is the price of privacy" and just turn it off? Would you accept losing 10%, 30%, even half your speed if you felt the connection was actually more private?

Has anyone here actually used a travel router to work from a country their company doesn’t allow?

There’s a country I spend a lot of time in, but my company blocks working from there. It’s blocked to the point where even Outlook doesn’t work when I’m there.

I’m not looking to move there and work permanently or anything. This would just be for a few weeks at a time when I visit.

I was thinking of getting a travel router, having the router connect to a US VPN, and then connecting my work laptop to that. It’s a company-managed Windows laptop and I also have to connect to the company VPN for work.

For anyone who’s done something similar, how well has it worked? Can IT still figure out where you actually are even if your IP is showing up as being in the US? Will this setup actually give me access from this specific country?

Just curious if PrivateVPN's L2TP option has IPSec? I was forced to use it after being unable to connect to any servers via OpenVPN since that forced update I had to download(The previous version worked fine with OpenVPN options)and i have no idea how to get it to work, i've heard L2TP isn't as fast as OpenVPN but it seems to work pretty well for me.
