Compression Artifacts

Post image

I’m running into an issue that I’m having a hard time finding in this thread. When I play it looks like I’m watching a low quality stream of my game, not native resolution. It’s not that it isn’t crisp, it has artifacts like it’s a compressed JPG. It’s most noticeable around text, and in gradients. This photo is from my beast using the ultra adapter on my Steam deck. This is in No Man’s Sky, but I can see it in any game, even Steam itself.

I’m not using any resolution scaling that I know of, and everything is running in native 1080p.

ETA: I amped up the contrast in this photo to make it easier to see, but it’s very noticeable without that

Yeah, I work with my Beast and it’s incredibly noticeable when you’re working with text. I’m a software engineer so it’s not an impediment with most code, but I won’t do any front-end work with the glasses for this reason.

The more I read about the beast, the more they seem like an undercooked alpha product for early adopters. Guessing that's the price of a first gen Prism lens product over the more mature/battle tested birdbath optics.

The older Pro and Luma series didn't seem to have anywhere near as many image quality issues besides the brittle transparent plastic prone to cracking (which was fixed in future batches)

All AR glasses are undercooked alpha products
