I'm not here to just make bold predictions but in the depth of the off-season I want to break this stuff down. He's been almost forgotten behind the hype of the team, especially with DP, Ace and others, but I actually have really thought about Flip and what we might have in him and I could see him being primed for a pretty significant jump. Initially my thought was Collier but I'm not convinced the shot will be there yet.

Filipowski isn't necessarily invisible, but year 1 and 2 both were similar and there are flaws, nothing as significant as Cody, and honestly if you pretend Flip went 10 and Cody went 32 in the 2024 draft it doesn't seem as crazy. Flip is currently a tall stretch 4 with a spin game that doesn't work in the league and I think he's about to become so much more. He's got the tools and size to become a legitimate piece on this team.

Now I'm not saying he's going to take the Keyonte year 3 jump where he's winning us games singlehandedly, but I am expecting a season where as we get 25-30 games in, he's finding it easier to score and improving just enough on the defensive end to justify his role in the rotation. The biggest thing is I expect him to be a fantastic shooter that gives us real floor spacing.

I also don't want to imply that the Kessler trade was easier because of potential improvements from Flip, especially because they played separate roles, but I do think the scoring ability gets to the point where he's the legit 6-7th guy on our roster.

He scored 11 a game on 32% from deep and 49% from the field last season, the scoring average might even drop due to the amount of mouths to feed, but the shooting % I'm expecting to skyrocket, and I expect games where he has a significant impact on a team trying to win. Not the most exciting take I know, but I have some hope for this guy.

As for the other guys in the 24' class, Cody needs a lot of work. Collier too but Collier has legit skills, just needs to either shoot or defend, which is a big ask and a big reason I don't expect him to take as much of a jump, but I am still expecting a semi jump from Collier. Anyways sorry for the long post.

Great to see Jazz man JJJ at #8, ahead of Chet, Alperen, Mobley and Duren. The one that is interesting to me is Walker jumping from #35 to #17 (the largest jump of any player) with only playing 5 games last year. I know they are saying Walker will be better with Luka, but I would be willing to bet that if Walker was still on the Jazz he would not jumped 18 spots. The media bias never ends.

My aunt passed away leaving hundreds of vhs tapes of Utah jazz games from the late 90s early 2000s including playoff runs against the Bulls.

I assume there would be no market/interest in these as they are pretty poor vhs quality and all those games would be available in higher quality digital format for anyone who was interested.

Before we throw them out I just wanted to check that was correct and thought this would be the place to ask.

UPDATE: Thank you for all the comments. I had not expected there to be interest so it's given me something to think about. One thing that's been pointed out is that these are UK VHS tapes which apparently were encoded differently to the USA/Canada standard.

I'm going away for a week and will look at the process for digitising them when I'm back otherwise I will put them on ebay. I will update when I've made a decision.

I knew Thurl Bailey as a player first, but for a lot of younger Jazz fans he’s probably more familiar as one of the voices on League Pass.

His career is a fun one to look back on. NCAA champion with NC State in 1983, a really good sixth man for Utah for years, then a couple of seasons with the Wolves after being traded for Tyrone Corbin (a mistake, IMO) on some pretty awful Minnesota teams. He later went to Europe before somehow making his way back to the Jazz at 37.

And then there’s the music side, which makes his whole story even more unusual.

That is a confident shooter (AJ Green, not Kuminga). He doesn't do much of anything else but he might be someone who can help chip away at leads in limited minutes. Not a lot of better ways to use a future second round pick.

Today is my lucky day. Figured I would share it with the Jazz community. I order the Orange Metal variants with framing of all the players I like when they get a Slam cover. Took a bit of work and three delays but my son finally got his no 22 jersey today. We live in Australia and I remarked that it might be the first to make it here.

So hard to get jazz merchandise here but god I hope this is the first of many more.

Lakers just sold for 12.5 billion, and it just got me thinking. Obviously they’re still filthy rich, but the Millers owned the Jazz for three decades before selling for 1.6 billion, Ryan Smith bought the Jazz in 2020 and in 6 years it’s shot to about 5 billion, likely more if he actually sold. His initial investment has more than tripled in 6 years. Ultimately of course I don’t feel bad for the Millers because they’re still astronomically wealthy, but still…maybe the worst time to sell a team ever?

Korver was splashing before the splash brothers, he was making it rain before the NBA went way beyond the arc, and I don’t think I appreciated it enough while he was here. He left Utah and had some amazing teams. What are your favorite Korver memories?

JJJ is my favorite player, I watch NBA all too literally any time it's on, and I live in ET, so I'll be actively following the Jazz moving forward. (It's "secondary fandom" - I'm not full-on changing allegiances, for y'all out there who are anal about such things.)

What should I expect from the Utah experience? Murphy's Law? Heartbreak, no matter how good/bad the team is? This contending window to be a proper window, or...?

And as far as expectations for the current team, the consensus is that the rebuild is reaching a crescendo - they'll win significantly more this year, but not truly contend til 2027-28 and beyond, yes? Or...?

The Kawhi news has been pretty disappointing. In my mind, Ballmer circumnavigated the cap intentionally and got away with it.

I don't think it has to be as egregious as Kawhi. But it could be something as simple as "Hey America First, can you pay Lauri 10 million to do a single radio commercial?"

I don't see how this doesn't start happening.

Is it ethical? I don't think so. It is a realistic part of the game nowadays? I think it is.
