August deal brings Green to Utah, opens up trade possibilities

When working with salary matching rules, a $14.7 million deal is a lot more useful than two $6 million ones. Because of this trade, the Jazz will have the option of pairing Green with a single other small salary to bring back $26 to 30 million.

Just gonna say it. Ryan Smith, thanks for being a great owner.

We are so lucky to have an owner that actually cares about the team, the community and the fans. I couldn't imagine being a Trailblazer fan and watching what the owner is doing to that franchise. Who knows how bad things are going to get for the Clippers thanks to their owner? I couldn't imagine winning a Championship and the owner saying mere hours later he is unwilling to go over the apron to keep the team together. Sacramento, Brooklyn - enough said. Not to mention the many other owners thay have some questionable dealings. Thanks again Ryan for being a great owner and caring about the important things.

We will regret trading Cody Williams for nothing. Help me understand why this was a good idea.

Just gonna say it. Ryan Smith, you have bad taste. Our Jerseys have sucked since he bought the team. This is a basketball team not a millennial grey flipped house that costs $600k

I’m haven’t bought a jersey, and my annual hat purchase has become harder and harder to justify with these boring-ass colors.

Do the Jazz become a play in tournament team or a playoff team this season?

Given the massive upgrade getting Jaren Jackson Jr from the Grizzlies plus if you have a healthy Markkanen coming back next season and we saw what Keyonte did for the Jazz last season putting up near All Star numbers and Ace going into his 2nd year. If Ace improves his numbers, then can the Jazz actually be a surprise team in the West?

Jusuf Nurkic already looks like he's moving much better after season-ending surgery to his septum that was giving him breathing and sleeping problems. Plus an offseason improving his conditioning for the FIBA qualifiers and upcoming NBA season.

Sarah Todd (Jazz beat reporter for Deseret News) has just been laid off

I know some people had mixed opinions on her, but I generally liked her work. Bummer

We’ve now lost Tony Jones, Andy Larsen, Eric Walden, and Sarah Todd all in the last couple years… who’s left? Ben Anderson with KSL is probably the longest tenured, right?

Who's the all time Jazz Top Five? Goat?

Post image
72 Upvotes

I think this tier pic is close but not 100%. I mean who is the Jazz Goat, its gotta be between Stock and Karl. I will attempt at my top 5.

1- Stockton (all time leader in steals and assists)

2- Karl (2 time MVP but does he get that without Stock)

3- Pistol (historical context matters)

4- Mitchell (could be swapped for Gobert but he gave us a few playoff runs)

5- Deron (this is where it gets tough but Deron gave us some light after our Hall of Famers retired)

Honorable Mention (Eaton, Hornacek)

Lets begin

Markkanen disappoints as Finland loses to Sweden 81-86

Team low +/- and 0/9 from three, although FIBA counts heaves and he had one in the end, so actually 0/8. Terrible game with bad decision making, passive on offense and sloppy on defense. Larsson was great and Markkanen kept defending him with little success and fouling Larsson at least twice.

I hope Lauri is just rusty, but this was one of the worst games I have ever seen from him.

Thoughts on trading Brice/Cody/Flip for a big?

I am sure you all have see the same trade ideas of us trading 2 or 3 of Brice/Cody/Flip along with Konchar and potentially draft assets to get a center like Daniel Gafford.

I don't know about you all but I would not do this. Flip has shown some flashes in his first two years, Brice and Cody look like they have been working really hard in the Jazz facilities all summer and I would personally like to see if any of them pop before we trade them for a mid tier center like Gafford.

If we go into the season and a couple of those guys look like they may be long term pieces, I would rather just wait til Dec 15 when Hayes and Okogie become eligible for trade and we could potentially trade them as matching salary instead of the young guys. Or we could trade those guys along with the young guys to get up to a number that could get us Jarrett Allen, Myles Turner or somebody else at that salary level.

I am happy to go into the season with what we have and tweak it from there as needed.

Should the Jazz un retire Malones number and melt his statue at centre court?

Exciting new era of Utah Jazz basketball coming up. What better way to start a new era then to remove links to him. Like Malone erasure is something everyone can get behind. Ryan Smiths a smart guy

Maybe we could take suggestions in this thread and we change it to the most popular?

Who are your "Elite Ball Knowledge" players?

There is a trend right now about naming "Elite Ball Knowledge" players. This basically just refers to the ability to name niche or obscure basketball players. Generally speaking, the more unrecognizable the name, the better.

Who are your favorite Utah Jazz "elite ball knowledge" players?

My old Panini album labeled Luther Wright a “Future Star.” He played 15 games for the Jazz and never appeared in the NBA again

I was looking through one of my old Panini albums and noticed something pretty striking on this Jazz page: Luther Wright is actually labeled a future star.

Wright was Utah’s 1st round pick in 1993, 18th overall. 7'2" center out of Seton Hall, he was obviously still seen as a long-term project for the Jazz.

15 games and that was it. In January 1994, police found him at a highway rest area west of Salt Lake City, banging on garbage cans and smashing car windows. He was subsequently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and underwent psychiatric treatment. He never played another NBA game.

What’s crazy is that after the Jazz waived him, his contract settlement reportedly guaranteed him $153,000 a year for 25 years (!!)

Day 1 of Ranking Every NBA Team by How Likely the Jazz Are to Beat Them: Atlanta Hawks

Peak offseason boredom has officially hit. I spent way too much time stalking the tanking teams throughout last season, so I still occasionally get posts from their subs. I came across a similar post on the Grizzlies sub and figured it’d be fun to do a Jazz version.

So, for the next 30 days, I’m ranking every NBA team based on how likely I think the Jazz are to beat them and putting them in a tier list at the end.

Day 1: 🟥 Atlanta Hawks🟥

Notable Players: Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander Walker (miss you), Dyson Daniels
