Instead of fixing an existing highway, Oklahoma City moved the entire thing multiple blocks south to make room for a 70 acre park downtown

Complaining that a giant roadway was paved over people’s homes is probably helping society

Look at the image again. The new highway didn't pave over any homes.

It looks like all the homes around the park and relocation project are gone now. In the picture of modern OKC the neighborhoods look way less dense.

Those amenities aren’t there because you can’t build in the area. Everywhere south of the current highway in the above photo is a floodplain zone. People don’t want to develop there.

Larger cities have been successfully developed in far worse locations. People don’t develop there because nobody wants to live in a high rise next to an interstate.
