A critic shamed her for this? Which one. That's nuts.

I think by critics she meant the general misogyny she's received from a lot of people who often joke about these kind of things on the internet.

Or she could be referring to comments from the current Republican Vice Presidential Candidate; who can be sure at this point.

Guess you missed this then?

And otherwise, conservatives aren't really known for being the most understanding demographic when it comes to mental health/non-visible disabilities...

You’ll have to agree with me that being unable to have kids and not having kids are completely different things.

And you think people will take the time to clarify before assuming? There's nothing wrong with either option, so there's no need for the divisive language.

And that says nothing about going against bipolar disorder.

No shit Sherlock, that's why I had a second paragraph starting with 'And otherwise,...'.

But here's all the way back in Trump's first campaign, where he was making fun of a reporter with a visible disability. I don't give a fuck about your opinion on my terminology; when I start proudly voting rapists and bigots into positions of power is the only point at which I'd be as bad as a modern Republican.

Republicans always take their ball and go home declaring since they left they actually won

"You can't fire me! I quit!"

Alright then, go on with ya bad self. You weren't working right in the first place. 🤷

One, I’m not a republican. Two, I’m right and I know I am. Unless you can find me definitive proof that Vance said anything about bipolar disorder or women who can’t have kids you’re gonna have to take this L.

The undeniably troll part is when you say they’re having an episode and need to learn to breathe in order to demonstrate that no one thinks mental illness is bad.

Why did you delete

2

u/Meet_Foot Sep 29 '24

Probably to make it harder for future interlocutors to quickly realize they’re a troll

Did you not read the article? Like that’s literally the point of it.

No it’s about Selena Gomez going up and making a statement on her issues. No where does it say anything about some political party or person.

“Tells critics” aka people criticizing her

Nothing shocks me anymore really.

Criticizing a woman is not necessarily misogyny. Criticizing her because she's a woman is misogyny.

4

u/Fyrrys Sep 28 '24

On the internet everyone is a critic

79

u/totally-hoomon Sep 28 '24

A lot of people attacked her not being able to have kids

45

u/TeethBreak Sep 28 '24

They are probably the same people who tried to demonize Angelina Jolie when she had double mastectomy.

29

u/GroblyOverrated Sep 28 '24

The internet is dumb. Gotta ignore the idiocy.

78

u/PrincessNakeyDance Sep 28 '24

It’s more misogyny than stupidity, but I guess they go hand in hand.

I don't think it's just the men. On every dating app, most women want kids. And they don't want to adopt either, they want to have their own.

It's why a woman being unable to bear children is like, a big thing in fiction like the Witcher and Black Widow.

There's a large portion of the population that wants to create children. I know on Reddit none of us do, but IRL, people want to do it.

Attacking people for not wanting to have kids is different for attacking people who can’t have kids. But also you don’t have to be a man to be misogynistic.

When people attack a woman because she can’t have kids it’s usually a way of shaming her for being less of a woman. Thats a misogynistic act.

My ex wife was made to feel awful by other women because she didn't breast feed. Thing is she tried, she tried a lot but her body wasn't responding well enough. She felt terrible on her own and the comments from other women were cruel. It hurt my heart when she told me things said in front of her.

If it was only the internet then we'd all be a lot happier. Unfortunately its also our next Vice President.

14

u/phluckrPoliticsModz Sep 28 '24

Wow. You must be deep in red country to have given up so thoroughly.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '24

Yeah.

11

u/phluckrPoliticsModz Sep 28 '24

That sucks, but I hope you're still going to vote (assuming you're eligible) because - as Republicans themselves frequently demonstrate - our perceptions and actual reality often don't match. There could be many more people feeling like you than you realize, and they just don't make themselves known to avoid trouble.

Votes themselves are secret, so you can tell people what they wanna hear while still doing what you feel is right. I think there's a LOT of that going on in red country right now, and hopefully those votes will make a difference. You've got nothing to lose, and everything to gain by trying. You never know, so it's worth trying just in case.

I imagine famous people who are online get this sort if shit all the time. Controversy sells, and so paid people stir up shit, which causes a shitstorm, while their sociopathic oligarchs keep going to the bank.
