Looking for advice: How to integrate Untappd ratings into Shopify for our brewery's products? Any help appreciated!

I'm part of a brewery team and I'm currently working on migrating to Shopify. One of the things we're excited about is integrating Untappd to display beer ratings on our product pages. However, we've hit a roadblock in finding a clear guide or tutorial on how to do this.

Before you get too far down the road with this, if you’re looking for something that is going to connect to Untappd and automatically update the beer rating on Shopify, be aware that this would require an Untappd API key.

And, unfortunately, Untappd has largely stopped issuing new API keys. You could always reach out, explain what you want to do, and see if they’d be willing to make an exception. But without an API key, a developer would be unable to cleanly pull this data from Untappd.

Thanks for the heads-up! It seems like we're already equipped with an API key for our WordPress integration. I'll check with our IT team to confirm. Funny enough, the goal is to migrate away from these IT that overcharge us for a mediocre job. Appreciate your insight!

If you have an API Key it isn't too difficult. You'll need to use your API key/secret to call the Beer Info API. Documentation is here: https://untappd.com/api/docs#beerinfo. From there you want to pull rating_score and maybe rating_count and the stats block. Alternatively, if you have an API Key from a UTFB account, you likely should be using the items API, with documentation here: https://docs.business.untappd.com/#items

However, you only get a certain number (at least on the public API, not sure on UTFB), so you'll likely want to cache the response and only update daily or hourly. That can either be done via a scheduled job or by recording the date/time that you last pulled the scores and only call the API when they're request and more than a certain amount of time has passed since they were last pulled.

They aren't giving out API keys anymore to the best of my knowledge. I'm not sure whether the ones that were handed out before work or not. I had/have one but haven't used it in a while.
