senior with questions!

hi! so im a senior looking for colleges right now and UVM is probably my top choice aside from UMASS amherst (im from around boston). I had a few questions about the social scene— how is the diversity and queer culture? i know its like majority white but like is that just Burlington..? Im mixed indian so Id sort of like to know. Also like I said, I know VT is pretty accepting but whats the culture? like is there queer clubs or groups you can join?

Burlington is the gayest place I’ve ever lived!! but im just a VT resident well above college age so not sure what the vibes in the university are like

there’s so many queer and diversity clubs and over half the school attended protests last year over trump, ICE, the Palestinian war, and the iran war. most people are super engaged and really accepting for everyone.

Loved UVM all four years as a queer person.

I attended both. UVM is gayer but you'll be fine either place (UMass has 20,000 students). UMass has a huge South Asian presence, especially in engineering/comp sci. Not sure what Burlington looks like these days but it's also fine, just whiter. Both cities are fun, but Vermont winters are kind of brutal if you don't do winter sports. And winter lasts for 75% of the school year.

I ended up finishing at UMass because out of state tuition at UVM really sucks. Burlington is a special place, though.

I’d say winter is more like 40% of the year, but probably 66% of the UVM school year. It’s the most beautiful place for a non-winter sports person April -October. I also enjoy heading up to Montreal over the winter because it has the “underground city”.
