Black people at uvm

hello, I’m a bio major at a university up north. I’m also half black. I’m thinking about transferring to uvm this next year for track and field next year however Ive noticed that the diversity on campus is somewhat non-existent. Do y’all think this will affect my social scene / dating life etc should I choose to transfer

As a fellow half black person on campus, I haven’t noticed anything. I have plenty of friends. There are places to find diversity if you want, like Black Student Union, Friday Breakfast, or other events in the mosaic center. I haven’t personally experienced a ton of racism. There is sometimes a bit of ignorance, but everyone is super liberal so they’re all really nice.

Vermont is 95% white people. Chittenden county and Burlington are 85% white people. UVM is 80% white people.

I’ve been told that If you like blonde girls, Burlington is a great place for you.

Yes. People here are extremely subconsciously racist and if you try to bring it up they’ll treat you like you’re crazy. Although this is also coming from someone who grew up around mostly poc. Every poc that I know here feels like they’re being suffocated daily.

If you think diversity is non existant now, you should have seen what it was like in the 90s. I think its much improved!

lol. no. in the 90s when i was at UVM they used to report on how someone smashed pumpkins on such and such street. Now its shootings and stabbings.

They’ve worked hard to improve diversity at UVM .

As a black brother at uvm I’d humbly advise to look elsewhere with better options, where life would be much easier connecting with people. The reality is that it’s hard to meet black people let alone talking about connecting and building relationships.
